Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

In what year did Lucas stop calling them the special edition.  The blu rays are being advertised as the original trilogy, which i think is false advertising by removing the special edition from it.

Shouldn't it be special edition 2.0 or 2.1 if you consider the remixed audio on star wars ?

Further evidence of Lucas' plan to erase the original theatrical versions from LFL, film history and memory.

After re-reading that, what do they mean by "closest to George Lucas' vision"? Will they try their hardest to do what George says? Or does it mean the closest to his vision at the time of release, meaning his vision will change again soon and we'll release it again.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. The movies change every time they're on a new format.

I'd buy a Blade Runner: Final Cut-style collection or nothing. And even then, after all this screwing around and middle-finger-to-longtime-fans from GL, I'd question parting with my money.

New page on the 8mm and 16mm (and a bit about 35mm) is up, though still slightly under construction:

If anyone has corrections or additions, feel free to speak up as always. Especially with 8mm, I am basically deferring to experts.

Very nice. And good to see the film's original colors and visual effects, if only in a few grainy screencaps.

well sorry i just thought that would be cool to see i dont want them to holly wood it keep it the same script actors who look like the real actors and same actions

Don't take it too personally; you're entitled to your own opinion here.

The way things have been going at the movies, it wouldn't surprise me if Hollywood decided to do just that... But while GL is still around it will never happen.

it would be cool if they redid the original trilogy in 3d but have all the actors do everything the same. get people who actually look like the original actors and can sound like them maybe the new trilogy to but cut out the political bullshit

Just when I thought Star Wars couldn't possibly lose any more of what little dignity it has left...

While Modern fans are at the height of excitement over the blu ray release, my fan interest in star wars is at its lowest ebb in my history with star wars as a avid fan.

Yes... I also feel almost nothing for the franchise now. Only moderate quality version of the originals and memories of the movies and toys from the early 1980s holds any interest for me.

Sad really, to think it has come to this.

Gloria Katz and Willard Huyck's work on SW

So it's fairly well known to nerds in the know that Lucas' friends and colleagues Gloria Katz and Willard Huyck did an uncredited dialogue polish on the final draft of Star Wars prior to the film going into production.

Seems to me those two contributed quite a lot more to the script than is often mentioned. George just can't write dialogue as good as that attributed to Katz and Huyck (and probably there are many other examples in Star Wars not credited to them).

So who thinks the garbage mattes won't be corrected and will stick out horribly in 1080P.

The only thing I wouldn't mind LFL correcting would be the garbage mattes. It doesn't bother me that they exist, but if there has to be any corrections, those would be the only ones. And the missing rotoscope on Vader's lightsaber in <i>Star Wars</i>. But just those things.

It was interesting to read that reply from Robert Harris.

Although this bit:

While many of us prefer the original versions, that does not control the marketplace.

The marketplace has been sold the hyped SE versions and never offered the originals since the early 1990s, so that kind of shapes the demand for those movies.

Anyway, from his comments there's still hope that one day the originals can be reproduced from the restored elements.
