Awesome graphic, georgec. This is why the last FPS I played was Doom. I'm pretty sure that's a level in Doom on the left, btw!

The Legend of Zelda is probably my favorite game series, and although I love almost every game in the franchise, including Wind Waker, my favorite will always be A Link To The Past. That is classic 2D gaming perfection. Same with the Metroid series, the 2D games blow the 3D ones out of the water in terms of difficulty and design.

Yeah, I was going to say, that animation is definitely hand drawn on Wacom tablets, except for the cars and probably any tracking shots of city streets. It's just easier to do that stuff in a computer with hand-drawn textures and then spend that money elsewhere (hopefully well spent). Hand animation is costly and animators who can properly draw moving vehicles and retreating buildings from any angle are even more costly. That shit is hard.

So, it's still 90% hand-drawn, with computer assistance.

Personally, I agree with the decision not to use Conroy, so as to present it as a standalone work. This is not the same Batman as appears in TAS and Batman Beyond. Besides, I like getting a chance to hear and see other actors in the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne. I love Kevin Conroy, but I don't agree with those who think he's the only man suitable to voice an animated Batman. Seems kind of fascist to me, lol.

As for a more "Asian style", I totally do not see it. At all. Looks like an edgier version of the Animated Series mixed with Miller's art for the novel.

Added to my list. I love a good horror anthology! And I'm thinking of doing the 31 horror films challenge in October again.

Never Let Me Go 7/10

A good story, not a great film, the girlfriend says the book is a lot better. I felt like it suffered from some boring performances.

DKR did indeed change everything, and is without a doubt one of the best pieces of literature I have ever read. Take all of the hype you've heard about Watchmen and go read this instead. It is still an unbelievable read canonical or not. A film version with Kevin Conroy has long been a dream. (Though the new DCAU movie version-gulp-cast someone else)

Have you heard about the animated film? They are making a two-part adapatation of it, slightly reminiscent of the style of the 1990s animated series. Looks pretty good. The trailer tries to play on the Dark Knight Rises similarities, for better or worse:

I'll definitely be seeing it though.

HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS!!???

Yeah it seems pretty lame. Maybe the star wars schtick is getting into that embarrassing "Old Lucy" phase now. The "Prometheus questions" thing was good though.

I actually think commentaries for the original trilogy are a great idea, sort of an anti-prequel-review thing, explaining why the original trilogy is awesome instead of why the prequels suck. I think he just spent too much time going off on Plinkett-is-creepy tangents instead of explaining what is so perfect about the film. When he focuses on the latter, he nails it and presents a near-flawless analysis.

And Gaffer you are wrong, a 15 year old has no place being any part of the officiating crew of an Olympic event.

Really, Warb?  My opinion is wrong?  I did not think the definition allowed for that to be possible.  I guess I learn something every day.

Of course someone can tell you your opinion is wrong. What the heck, has the internet systematically erased humanity's knowledge of how arguing works? Opinions aren't sacrosanct, they are up for debate.

Despite the plot holes, and leaps in logic, it works because it has an emotional core and characters I care about. I love the comics, but this is not the comics, it's not the same characters from the comics and I'm okay with that. This is an Elseworlds Batman, and over 3 films, Nolan gave me a Bruce Wayne and Alfred I care about and want to see succeed and find resolution.

I don't get the complaints about Bale's Bruce Wayne at all. The Bruce Wayne we see in public around other people is a character Bruce is playing. It's "Bruce Wayne" in quotes. That's not the real Bruce Wayne and I don't get what's wrong with the idea that Bruce wanted to make sure that the public never suspected Bruce Wayne as Batman and the best way to do that was to make him a rich guy that could never be mistaken for a man with a conscience or an interest outside his own satisfaction. We see plenty of moments across all three films of the real Bruce, in private, to know that this is a good man, a man who cares about others, but who is scarred physically and emotionally, who has human concerns that drive him, not a Golden Age hero without any frailty or doubt driven by plot but also not a Dark Age Frank Milleresque anti-hero on the edge of losing his humanity.

Whatever failings the plot has, I cared about these characters, and at the end of the day, I loved seeing a Batman arc that ended with him being able to step away from the cowl and live a normal life. I think at least one iteration of Bruce Wayne deserves that peace. It's what his parents would've wanted for him, and at least Nolan was able to give it to him. I can't help but feel that anyone angered by this fact doesn't really care about Bruce or Alfred as characters with emotions, but only cares about the cool battles and ideas and plots and slavish devotion to source material. Yes, Batman can't have superpowers, but Bruce Wayne can put down the cape and cowl. He did it in Batman Beyond, and they made it work. He did it The Dark Knight Returns and that's considered the greatest single Batman graphic novel of all time. Why can't he do it here? This is a Bruce Wayne who recognizes that Batman is bigger than one man, that he's a symbol, and that his real goal is not to prowl the streets stopping muggers, but to inspire others to do the same. He does that, in as big and satisfying a way possible, arguably better than any other single Batman story has ever done, and so – emotionally – he absolutely earns the final shot in TDKR.

Yeah, it wasn't very funny, not even remotely as funny as his prequel reviews, but I'm not really a fan of Plinkett and RedLetterMedia for the laughs so much as for the astute film analysis. You can't really fault these guys for that. And with as much reading as I do all day long, I love good film criticism on video (or mp3 in this case).

While it does feel at times like listening to one of your drunk friends try to make a point about something, the commentary has some excellent moments of explaining just what is so perfect about SW77, and he even points out a few plot holes I've never seen anyone else mention before. If you're the kind of guy who watches Star Wars multiple times a year, and you're a fan of Plinkett and RLM, it wouldn't hurt to watch it once with Plinkett's commentary

Also it's the only sport where Asian women have nice asses IMO.

Warbler is it unpatriotic to cheer for the indoor volleyball team with the nicest collection of asses? (last time it was Cuba I think)

So shopped! How is anyone fooled by this?! LOL

I had a one night stand with a woman with fake tits and hated it. I could feel the bag inside, it really grossed me out. I pretty much avoided touching her breasts the whole time, and it's one of the reasons I never saw her again. Blechhh. Still makes me shudder.

I'd rather my girlfriend have small breasts rather than big plastic bags under her skin.

Sports...are also highly symbolic war game.s If you think that's lost on world leaders, you're crazy. So, right off the bat, it's presumptuous to assume that the Olympics are about fostering peace. Maybe on the surface, but politics is about claiming to foster peace while you prepare for war. Peacekeeper missile, anyone?

You don't foster peace between nations by beating them in a physical competition. My strongest memory about the Olympics, growing up in the 80s, is people cheering for the US to beat those commie bastards in the USSR.

As you so astutely pointed out, sports are indeed a modern-day way of releasing our innate warlike behaviours.  But does that make them a bad thing?  Is it really that harmful competing with other countries in a non-violent, non-lethal way, with no real life repercussions?

I think it depends on the intention of the people involved - spectators, athletes, and politicians alike. Like most things in life, it's a double-edged sword. It can have a positive benefit like C3PS said, or it can reinforce nationalistic, prejudiced notions of what races/cultures are better or worse than others.

And it's not limited to the Olympics, it's just the topic of this thread. I have friends who are diehard football (soccer) fans, and I'm familiar with the obscene levels of violence that some fans of that sport have been known to engage in after a match. Sports has the potential to bring out the best and worst in people, as does politics. Put the two together, which is what the Olympics does, and that potential goes up dramatically.

I could argue against the idea that the Olympics has "no real life repercussions", but that could be a page or more of discussion, and I we've had enough sighs and whatevers for one thread. :-)

I hate the Olympics, always have, always will, for just about every reason zombie84 so astutely pointed out and more. Anyone who thinks sports and the Olympics is just about fun is seriously ignorant. Sports, aside from making a game out of physical activities early humans used to survive (swimming, fishing, throwing, running, climbing, etc.), are also highly symbolic war game.s If you think that's lost on world leaders, you're crazy. So, right off the bat, it's presumptuous to assume that the Olympics are about fostering peace. Maybe on the surface, but politics is about claiming to foster peace while you prepare for war. I have no problem with being proud of your nation if your nation has earned it, but let's be honest. The Olympics are not just about taking pride in your nation. Most people I know watch the Olympics to see their country win, not just to "pick a side because it's fun" but because it's fun to believe that my country is better than yours. This is just basic human nature.

Anyway, that's enough out of me here. Dissenting opinions are not wanted. Maybe I should start a thread about hating the Olympics where no one is allowed to talk about liking them.
