Does Romero's Dead series depict the same zombie apocalypse?
Time

It seems the common consensus is yes, but I've always argued that at least the first three Dead films are not a true trilogy, but more like a triptych where the films work together as a whole thematically, but actually depict three different zombie apocalypses in separate "universes". This viewpoint has sparked genuine arguments when I've brought it up in the past. I had a guy at a party call me "a fucking ass-clown" for thinking this. Or maybe it was "fucking-ass clown". We were all pretty drunk.

Cut to last year, when I had the good fortune to meet Lori Cardille, star of Day of the Dead, at a benefit in Chicago, and of course I asked her this very question. She said that this was actually a topic of discussion on set. Apparently Romero does not want to stifle fan discussion by coming down on either side of the argument, but like me, she does not believe the films depict the same zombie apocalypse.

Thoughts?

Is he afraid of alienating fans?  Why?  You're already making up excuses to not give them what they've been demanding for years.  I'd have a little more respect for him if he just spoke the truth.

We already know the truth. Lucas thinks one day everyone who saw the OOT will be dead and all that will be left are people who grew up with flashy CGI. He's pandering to children from the future.

You better believe if all films are eventually 3D, Lucas will be the first to destroy all 2D prints and offer Star Wars exclusively in 3D.

Chainsaw, yes, if you look back on my post, you'll see that I am aware of the tunnel. There is only a single tunnel at each main fortress along the wall, and the tunnels are how the Brothers go to and from the haunted forest. In the opening shot of the series, you can see behind the three Brothers is Castle Black. In order to take that tunnel back, Will, the deserter, would have to go straight through Castle Black and past the Night's Watch. Not to mention, one of the other Brothers would've had to open the two gates for him. So I think we can rule out that he went through a tunnel. He must have known of a secret route over the Wall. That's the only possibility.

I ask because including pure scientific discoveries opens up a whole host of topics for you, but may be less interesting to research (and grade) than the invention of awesome machines and devices. But I see now you have Newton's Laws, the Periodic table, and Pasteurization on there.

And I just got major deja vu for some reason. Weird.

I've read your other posts, dark_jedi. All you've done for the last few pages is complain about people who are venting frustration, and pat yourself on the back that you're above all that. Good for you.

"I have said all I need to say"

Great. I look forward to you not responding to this.

Same here. I don't want to know what's going to happen, or feel the urge to compare the series to the books. "This scene went differently; he didn't say that; she should be taller," etc. That sort of thing gets in the way sometimes.

I did notice something on the first rewatch though. I'm wondering how the "deserter" from the prologue got south of the Wall without going back through the tunnel to Castle Black. I can't imagine he climbed over a 700 ft. tall ice wall.

Anyone watching this? It took me a couple episodes to get into it, but now I'm hooked. I've watched every episode at least twice.

I love the opening credits. The music is EPIC (a word I rarely use unless it's true), and the concept of starting the show with a map that changes depending on the episode is a brilliant idea that really gives the series that fantasy novel feel. And the way it's all done like the inside of a hollow earth, with an astrolabe sun, and clockwork cities representing the turning wheels of political machinations, it's so effective.

However you might feel about Blade Runner, hate it, love it, you have to respect that you can choose which version of the film you want to watch on Blu Ray. It's the only way to do Director's Cuts. I'm fine with re-editing movies, obviously, as long as the original isn't snuffed out of existence. Have any other directors attempted to replace their films with impostors like Lucas?

What motive could they possibly have for passing on the money they'd get from treating the OOT properly? They could sell it in some crazy limited edition archival Blu-Ray set like the Beatles Mono box, devoted solely to the OOT, charge a premium for it and market it as diehard-collectors-only if they wanted, and still make money hand over fist. Make any changes you want to the films after that. Put Jar-Jar in an X-Wing in A New Hope for all I care. We'll have our Star Wars Archival Editions. The obviousness of this makes it seem like it's something personal, not just business, that's responsible for the OOT's deliberate absence from the Blu Ray set.
