I’d love a link to this. I haven’t gotten around to watching the first 1 – life’s been crazy. So could I get a link to that one again too, just in case, I misplaced it. Might have myself a lovely weekend watching them back to back sometime soon!!

I adore the original movie, but this does sound very intriguing as I’ve been reading about the Titanic years and years before the film came out. I would love to watch this. Pretty please, a PM!

I think that’s a very petty reason not to watch the series, but hey, if that’s a deal breaker for ya, it’s your loss. The reason I cut it was simple – it was a forced, unearned fling…and a little creepy since Arya knew Gendry as a young kid and he’s a good bit older than her, in the show and in real life. They had one short trip together on the king’s road when they were young, but the writers are like, “sure, they know each other well enough…let’s have them hook up because they’re of age now and attractive”. They did try to create a little flirty tension when they reunited after so long, but it just felt like a forced story choice to me, even with humanity potentially on the line from the approaching dead army. Anyway, I hope you reconsider but if not, you can always watch Arya and Gendry go at it as much as you want in D&D’s original crap finale to the series. Cheers!

Addressing the age differences first because no. In the books, Gendry is about 5 years older than her. That’s it. He’s 14 to her 9. In the show, 6, 11 to 17 when they first meet. As for the actors, if they could deal with it, so should the viewers. When she filmed the scene, Maisie Williams was almost 20 years old, while Joe Dempsie was 29. (That’s an age gap that generally would not even remotely blink an eye, and Dempsie, bless that man, decided to respect Maisie and treat her like the person she is TODAY and not the teenager she was 5 years ago.)

Regarding the story, I am sorry, but it was so not a "forced, unearned fling, and the two were not on "a “short road trip.” They spent the equivalent of nearly two years together. And during those two years, they were tortured, nearly died more than a few times, were starving, on the run, under the control of Tywin Lannister, and for many months, it was just the two of them and Hot Pie. Furthermore, Gendry was the LAST PERSON that was a part of Arya’s pack before she became No One. He was the LAST PERSON that was connected to her old life. He was the person that she started to feel the feelings for. (And in the books, Arya and Gendry are very, very clearly being set up as Lyanna and Robert part two, but this time they’ll most likely work.)

Arya and Gendry were very, very much built up. In season 3 when Arya told Gendry that he was her family, Maisie Williams was directed to deliver her line as if she was saying “I love you.” Arya was devastated when she lost him. And when they were reunited, Gendry and their “pointless” scenes were a huge key to her choosing to live for life, as opposed to choosing to live for death. But some people were too distracted by the fact that (gasp!) a female grew up!

I’m sorry that you missed one of the few decent storylines in s8, one that narratively showed Arya’s journey. The parallel stories of the Hound and Gendry in relation to Arya. There was a reason that we saw the Hound and Gendry with each other and with Arya so much. The two coming into Arya’s life again, Gendry representing life, the Hound death, Gendry on the white horse, the Hound on the black horse when they arrived. Gendry at the feast with the Hound, the Hound talking about death, and how Gendry wanted to celebrate life with Arya (wink wink). Arya leaving Winterfell on a black horse to go to her death, Arya leaving King’s Landing after choosing life on a white horse. But, yeah, sure, it was pointless. And I’m being petty. Uh huh. Sure.

These sound really awesome. There are a few things I would have preferred kept in, but very few and they are very minor. Definitely pm’ing you.

God, thank you. Montage. That is the word I was thinking of. Lord, I’m getting old! Yeah, it would have to match the emotions. Or be intercut throughout the fight Qui-Gon/Maul fight, Padme’s team. That’s what I’m thinking. Have the Gungan battle scenes – when cut to – be presented as a battle montage with killer music. I’m trying to imagine a montage of those scenes cut well against Duel of the Fates. I don’t know.

I agree that the Gungan fight should be streamlined as much as possible. What if instead of cutting down, it’s presented in a chaotic, quick cut, series of shots type of way, kind of closer to how we see the quick shots after Order 66 of the Jedi being cut down.

Also, yes!!! I can’t wait for the AOTC community thread. I love that film.

Yeah, that’s what I’m looking for. Something that tells the complete story of Mandalore/Darksaber. The whole story with Satine, Bo-Katan, Mandalore, Sabine, the Darksaber. Hmmm, I may have to try and do this myself.

(Grr, once again, REALLY wishing that Rebels – which I do adore – had been done in the same animation style as TCW. Ah well.)

I’m still wondering if anyone has one that includes the stuff from Rebels because there is stuff there in Rebels from Mandalore as well unless I’m misremembering (which is totally possible).

I checked the fanedit list and didn’t see anything (only Mando edits, and ROTS/Siege of Mandalore edits). I was wondering if anyone has attempted to make edits of TCW and Rebels Mandalore story? I know that the animation style (alas) is different. Still, I wonder if anyone has attempted this and I’m just not seeing it.

I would love to have that whole story together leading into the Mandalorian.

EddieDean and Peter Pan, these are both really cool ways of tying it up. I love the whole progression, Eddie, and I like this suggestion a lot, Peter:

in its place we would gain a cool cut connecting the scenes stylistically, if we go from Obi-Wan killing Maul with a green saber to the green lights in Anakin’s cockpit replacing the red.

So I had an idea of combining the Prequel Trilogy and Obi-Wan Kenobi into a Prequel Trilogy by doing massive cuts on all four. My edit ideas are as follows:

EPISODE I - TPM/AOTC

• Trade dispute stuff, when Qui-Gonn/Obi-Wan come down (cut A LOT OF fight in that in beginning).
• Meeting Jar Jar, underwater settlement, cut as much as possible, no bigger fish, bongo ship, cut to in city.
• On Tatooine, cut that he made C3PO, cut as much of Watto, in the town stuff, with kids, pod-race in-between as possible tighten it up rescore stuff (haven’t done this yet, so yeah), no midichlorians.
• Keep most of Coruscant stuff, back on Naboo, meeting with Naboo/Gungans, keep, Padme/Captain get Nute, cut to Obi/Qui-Gonn to Darth Maul w/out Anakin if possible, if not, yes, Anakin just stays, battle droids, but major cuts to that, very little JarJar, combo of success w/Padme, failure w/Obi. The rest to the end probably and then celebration wipes into AOTC first scene.
• Ship flying into Coruscant with the words in SW text: TEN YEARS LATER… on the screen appearing and then beginning with Amidala’s plane landing, explosion. Training scene from OWK. Anakin/Obi are her protectors.
• Assassination attempt, add any deleted scenes, love story/Kamino, then they go to Tatooine, he goes to his mom.
• CUTS, CHANGES HERE: Obi-wan hears Dooku THEN we get to Anakin going to Sand people, cut to him killing them, cut to him back w/body, scene w/Padme about killing them and funeral (but cut straight to Anakin’s eulogy) and end on his “I will not fail again.” and then rescore to swelling music to SW theme. CREDITS

AOTC/ROTS

• Obi-Wan contacts Anakin, captured by droidekas, wipe to Anakin/Padme listening to his message.
• Dooku trying to turn Obi, no-go, Anakin/Padme on Geonosi - basically cut most of machines against machine sequence.
• Love confession. Arena sequence. Mace/Jedi arrive, Jedi/Droid fight, then Yoda/Clones arrive. Victory. Dooku escapes, three-way fight there, Dooku escapes again, Mace/Yoda discuss Sidious. New Clone forces get going. Anakin/Padme get married. Swipes up to space, preparing to save Palpatine. Tighten up this entire section, taking as much humor as possible, make it go-go-go with action to continue the somber mood of the wedding, leading into the moment of darkness when Anakin kills at Palpy’s urging. Escape again tightened, quicker pace.
• Return to Coruscant, after Padme tells him she’s pregnant, he hears his mother’s voice faintly unable to finish telling him she loved him before she died.
• Grievous/Sidious stuff.
• Anakin finding Shmi in the Sand People camp and dying in his arms flashback happens and her eyes closing fades into Padme’s eyes closing in the ROTS post-childbirth scene. He wakes up and talks to Padme about his dreams. Palpatine talks to him about wanting him as his personal rep on the Jedi Council. Anakin not Master, Anakin angry, council don’t care, council wants Anakin to spy, Anakin not happy again, Obi-wan not happy too, Anakin grr.
• The tragedy of Darth Plagueis. In some dialogue-less moment towards the end, Shmi’s voice saying goodbye to young Anakin and then Padme crying his name at some point during Mustafar rings in his head.
• Kashyyk stuff, Grievous stuff, edited, tightened as much as possible. Intertwine the Palpatine/Anakin stuff throughout these scenes so that we have the growing frustration/disgust w/the Jedi Council, the fear over losing Padme tied to his mother’s death building throughout with Kashyyk and Grievous playing a smaller role. This is about Anakin’s fall.
• Anakin learns about Palpatine’s evildoings, but also he convinces Anakin that he can save Padme. Anakin tells the council, they go after Palpy, but Anakin is focused on saving Padme, --> add this --> memories of Shmi from TFA, her death, future dreams of Padme’s death, her cry of name < – over Palpatine’s promise saying if the Jedi kill him, he can’t save Padme. He goes after the Jedi going after Palpy. It’s Jedi against Palpy, then just Mace, then Anakin, then, Palpy convinces him gotta save Padme. (Insert cry of Padme crying his name before he cuts Mace’s arm.)
• Mace dead, Anakin turns. Insert Reva youngling scenes from OWK. Order 66. Swells into SW theme. CREDITS

EPISODE III - ROTS/OBI-WAN KENOBI

• Vader tells Padme the Jedi are traitors, and that he’s going to Mustafar, he does and kills the Separatist council. Back in Coruscant, tells them all Bad Jedi, thunderous applause as liberty dies. Empire is born, Padme and Bail are not impressed.
• Obi/Yoda learn about Anakin. Has sadz. Obi tells a way preggers Padme, she can’t believe it’s as bad as he says and believes that Anakin is still there. Meanwhile, Anakin knows how far gone he is and knows, dude, I be gone. However, Padme is on her way to him, Obi stows aboard.
• She arrives on Mustafar. Anakin is happy until Obi’s name comes up. Then it’s lies and Obi sucks. She tries to get him to join her, but he wants her to join him in evil. That’s a no-go. Padme realizes that Anakin is too far gone. Oh noes, then Obi steps out and Anakin is so gone, he’s full-on Vader now, Padme is force-choked unconscious, and then the whole fighting in Mustafar begins. Some editing, tightening of this section will happen, mostly in the jumping on the river of lava because, really?
• In Coruscant, Yoda and Sidious have their little fight. It is so not great. So mucho editing/tightening to make it not so not great.
• Padme gives birth. Edit dialogue to have her not just, you know, die for no reason. What to do with babies.
• Vader surgery, Death Star construction. Padme funeral, Yoda to Dagobah. C3PO memory wipe. Tantooine twin suns, and then wipe to --> Tatooine sand and SW text: TEN YEARS LATER… on the screen appearing and then Inquisitors going into Tatooine bar, looking for Jedi before we cut to Obi-Wan’s routine, young luke then wipes to Leia in tree, hops down, major edits to quick kidnapping.
• Back to Tatooine, dead Jedi hanging, Obi/Owen looking at each other. “Keep your distance.” back in cave, message from Bail.
• Haja is kept because he pops up later. Ben rescues Leia, she doesn’t run away because she’s not an idiot. No second kidnapping. No evil Lola plot. A lot of the stupid inquisitor bickering doesn’t happen. Less STs missing shots. A lot of tightening on pacing, edits here and there overall.
• A LOT of the refugee stuff cut because basically it just felt like ‘oh, we have to fill time here.’
• Keeping Reva going after Luke, Beru/Owen protecting him stuff but again, edits, tightening up.
• No references to reaching out to Qui-Gonn. Final scene is Obi/Ben talking to Luke: “Hello, there.”

So, I think with edits and cutting what I plan to these could each be about 2hr20 to no more than 2hr30. I think. Thoughts?

I just rewatched this, the one that went from the training scene to the elevator and honestly unless you’re looking for the differences they aren’t that obvious between Anakin. As for Obi-Wan, I think it works, the hair/beard difference because of what is going on. Obi-Wan’s hair changes and gets all ruffled because of the fight so it’s all messed up and out of place by the end of the training scene. So we begin the elevator scene it’s all sleek and nice, plus!, his beard is trimmed BECAUSE he is going to meet a senator (yes, one he’s met before, but still) be her protector.

So, yeah, the fact that Obi basically got a fresh trim and cut/style to his hair makes perfect sense as to the change in his bear/hair. And, again, unless you’re looking for it, it’s just not that obvious with Anakin. So, I think it really does work. Also, that’s with the scenes back-to-back. Having the Padme scene with the chancellor between the two would make it work even better and those changes even less noticeable.

A de-aging deepfake on Obi still would not be a bad idea, though.

Are you still sticking with cutting Rey and Ben and killing off Ben? I can live with killing off Ben (although I REALLY would not prefer that), but I do think that Rey and Ben were built up in the first two films and without them in the third, it just wouldn’t work for me personally.

I have returned back to the world of fun and enjoyment. i would love a copy of this. I can watch this and finish Andor!

The crawl is a bit of a placeholder at the moment. I want to stick to the classical 3 paragraph crawl, bit I agree that it needs more work.

The bar scene is the main issue given that I’ll be cutting the sister subplot.
What I’d love to do is edit it so that he goes into the bar looking for a “buyer”. It may be possible but I haven’t had a deep look into it. Once I go back to the finishing I’ll have a proper look at whether that’s possible.

The way I cut it in the Workprint was done to imply that he was there for pleasure, but once the security guards started to take an interest in him, he decided to leave. I agree that it’s not ideal.

Yeah, that’s what I was hoping you could find a work-around for. That he’s going there for a buyer or pleasure. I hope you are able to. Either will work. I hope to get back to this by tomorrow at the latest. Again, it’s just so effortlessly done. Kudos.

This sounds pretty good. I would be interested in watching these!

I like the idea, but I agree too many short scenes. I’d arrange it a little differently and cut a bit more:

• Begin with the crawl, scroll down in space to the ship.
• Cut the stuff with the captain/Nute Gunray/etc.
• First interior shot should just be Qui-Gonn/Obi-Wan enter, what’s in the mock-up is good. They should be our first characters we see.
• Move on to Gunray talking to Palpy as we saw in the mock-up, then go from that to a cut where they are told they have the transmission from Amidala.
• Then to Amidala talking to the Jedi Council which gives us a nice flow. Which then ends with them discussing “that can only mean invasion” which leads to -->
• Then the ship explosion, but no need to show the captain/co-captain, all we need is to see the exterior/explosion.
• And then to the Jedi reaction/fight.

All of that flows and shouldn’t have the choppy feel to it. (I don’t think.)
