You are correct though, the X0 Project will live on past just the laserdisc transfering of the Star Wars films. What we do next is still up in the air, and it certainly should be allowed to be discussed here.

So, in January, when the DVD's are no longer available in retail, is it okay again? I mean, I know you are still hammering these things out, but that is worth keeping in mind, too. There is about a 4 month window before these will be out of print all over again. It's odd.

Would you consider doing a similar thing for the Episode I video game? It had a number of deleted scenes recreated, in addition to a lot of non-movie backstory. With some skillful editing, you might be able to get something very interesting out of it.

I don't remember what kind of game Episode II had (never played it), but maybe it would allow something to be done as well? I'd sure like to see a trilogy of prequel video game movies. After all, the prequel films were just glorified video games anyway...

Heck - what about the LEGO Star Wars game? I just bought it and it is great, with great cutscenes. I can't wait for the OT version in fall.

Nice inclusion of extras. Very professional, in my opinion. It makes a nice companion disc for Episode III - probably as close to "Deleted Magic" for Episode III as we will ever get.

Guess you haven't seen The Sith Revealed then

I sure haven't. Sorry - I'll check that out later today. Thanks again.

I thought that this was really interesting. Congrats on this project. No one else has done anything like this before now, that I have seen anyway.

It's interesting how the game deviates in the action scenes from the movie. I wonder if this was based at all on an earlier draft of the movie.

I think it might be a PAL DVD - my player would not play it, but the PC would.

Heck, I would like a copy of that. Is it on myspleen?

Certainly is andy_k_250. Can't link to it - but it's in the "Other" section, about halfway down the page.

Just search for: Star Wars: Making Magic DVD by FanFiltration

Jambe, send me an email or a PM

Wait a tic - are you guys talking about Behind The Magic or Making Magic, because there's a difference. I want whichever would be a DVD transfer of the CD-ROM containing Biggs footage. I think that's Behind The Magic. I only see Making Magic on myspleen. Is it a combo of both?

What's a good program to rip sound bytes from DVD?

My recommendation:
DVD Decrypter for ripping
Womble MPEG Video Wizard for converting .ac3 to .wav (open the file, export it, changing the audio settings to .wav format)
SoundForge or Vegas for editing and saving into whatever format.

Thanks!

So, is there any way to cut up the .ac3 file before .wav encoding? I just can't imagine how enormous a full soundtrack .wav would be.

And is there any way to grab the selection while the DVD is playing (for sight reference), or is it really just something I need to buckle down and do the way you've suggested?

I appreciate your help. Thanks again!

Not neccessarily. Those subs would've been the last thing put on since different territories would have different language requirements. Its easy enough to subtitle a scrawl but you don't wanna subtitle subtitles. My bet is that they'll be player-generated to accommodate the various language requirements of the format. Don't worry - I'm sure someone here will come up with a burnt-in version down the line!

LOL

I can see the title for that one - "Star Wars: Classic Burned-In Subtitles Edition" - see Greedo talk in burned-in green subtitles for the first time since 1978...the way you remember it!

I've been thinking that, too. They keep saying "this release" - "this release" is the 2004/theatrical combo, if you want to get technical. Who's to say there won't be theatrical-only releases? Then again, who wants to take that chance? And what about HD-DVD/Blu-Ray releases further down the line?

Poor OCB. Now I see the problem. He's desperate for attention and kudos for his release.

Sad, really. No one likes an attention whore. I was hoping the days of DanielB and AWK were over, and now one of our own has turned to the Dark Side.

I know it is a shame that we have a new troll here. But AWK is here as Andy_K_250 or something like that.
Anyways on a good note, I have so much respect for you guys and what and undertaking you are doing *tips my hat off you to guys*. And I can't wait to have the whole XO trilogy on my shelf one day .

Hey. I am assuming AWK was a flamer or something. I'm not AWK. I think if you search my posts, you'll see that I have never posted anything inflammatory and, aside from maybe being less schooled in a lot of the technical aspects of these projects, I've shown nothing but support for everyone here. If I did something to offend you, please let me know. If you were just grabbing a name that starts with A at random, that's cool, but please don't malign my reputation here (what little I have).

Sorry Dude it jsut that AWK made a shit load of usernames like that, and then the OOT anouncement came and your came. Sorry to jump to conclusions. Please forgive my irrational judgement.

Hey, no big deal. Thanks for the apology, though.

For the record, though, to everyone else - I'm NOT AdamWanKenobi - I just happen to like "Old Ben," too.

Sorry about that, Andy. I hadn't even heard of you when your username was mentioned, and I hope you don't think I was implying you were someone else. Welcome to the boards (belatedly.)

Thanks for the welcome. I didn't think you were implying I was; Darth Richard did, but that's okay. It's no big deal. I just didn't want it to turn into a rumor.

ORIGINAL STAR WARS TRILOGY OUT 09/2006 BY LUCASFILM
Time
This is kind of along the lines of what I was wondering.

I don't know much about this whole process, so bear with me in my ignorance/lack of better terminology.

Could it be that the material released in September is going to be what was originally extracted from the original old theatrical master film reels for the 1993 Definitive Edition Laser Disc's? My reasoning is this - they keep mentioning 1993 technology - maybe they are talking about the first digital encoding done back in 1993. That first encoding was then compressed to fit a LD's space parameters, I assume. Maybe they are going to use the 1993 encoding and transfer it to DVD, which by should by definition create less compression from the digital source made in 1993 from the masters, as well as allowing more lines, which would let each image be able to breathe more than it did in the constraints of the LD format.

It's fully possible for this release to be what was hinted at by the OT (unaltered) scenes in Building Empire. Those few scenes, in my opinion, looked great.

The fact that they mention the original crawl for SW makes me wonder if they are using a theatrical master reel, since this would include the original crawl. However, as many here have demonstrated, it's not that hard to make your own crawl.

As far as complaints about 5.0 sound, was that capability even available when these films were released, or would making them 5.0 technically be tampering with the original sound mixes to artificially retrofit the old movies with a newer technology? Sort of like colorizing a b&w white movie? I don't know - just curious if anyone else knows.

Is there a phone number for LFL? We should just call and ask. I know that sounds simple, and maybe they don't publish a phone number just because of people like us (understandably, maybe).

Anyway, thanks for the work of everyone here. You all did awesome jobs.

It is pretty lame that they took the Han Shoots First slogan, though - that's kind of like a cigarette company, in an attempt to be hip, making shirts for people that say, "Smoking Kills, Dude. Word. It's really The Truth."

Originally posted by: INv8r_ZIM
It looks to me from reading the various postings around the net that what we're going to see is in fact the video masters that the definitive editions were struck from. There's no reason at all that LFL would spend the money and manpower to restore them any further, as Lucas obviously feels that they are mere curiosities which some fans would like to have legally. What this DOES seem to mean, is that something like OCPMovie's classic editions (just, oh, I don't know, for example ) would benefit from better source material for the inserts (masters straight to MPEG2, not having been converted to LD format, recaptured, and then encoded). I have a feeling this site and a number of the projects are still going to be valid come September after all.

This is great that all this stuff is turning up. I thought I was one of the only Mad Max fans here.

These two things could make good easter eggs. The first is "The Road Warrior" done in five minutes with LEGO's. The second is a Mad Max 1 influenced music video:

That sounds awesome - I know I brought it up, but I honestly don't have the time/skills/resources yet to accomplish such a feat, although I would definitely be interested in the end result of it. Not to be a choosy beggar, but it would be nice to have the Japanese documentary material tossed on for extras, too, since these are not availabe in the US.

Folks, the r-18 is not a composite? read on imdb.com That version is the version that they used for the TV cut, However, it is uncut and unchanged, it has all the scenes from the theatrical. Plus the R-18 cut is the only version to have all of the original austrailian dialog like Mad max Special Edition.. All other version have english overdubs

That means that the R18 Cut contains everything from the TV Cut, in addition to the Theatrical Cut/Japanese Cut? If that's the case, then it is truly complete....

AND since it's only ever been on VHS, a DVD preservation should be allowed around here. I guess a project would be to recreate it as a composite from the various DVD releases (so we can have the R18 cut in the highest quality at any given time. Is that a taboo thing to discuss?
