MySpleen - Authoring After Download
Time
Okay. Say I get a DVD film-based fan preservation project from MySpleen. I have Nero. Can I directly burn these files using Nero to make a playable DVD? I am asking first to avoid making coasters. Or, do I need some sort of authoring program? What will give me an accurate duplicate? I used DVD Shrink to author before, but lost my DVD-ROM content (not supported by DVD Shrink authoring I guess ).

That's what I was trying to get at, but I couldn't put it into words. It is just irritating that there are all these little hints that there are pristine copies of the OT floating around, but nothing is done with them. Hmmph.

ORIGINAL STAR WARS TRILOGY OUT 09/2006 BY LUCASFILM

There was a bunch of talk earlier about what pieces of the original film elements survive. Here's a question -

Why was it so easy to add in the Biggs footage prior to the Battle of Yavin for the SE release, and why does it look so great? This was obviously not part of the original film, but it was spliced in seamlessly and looked perfect, despite being 20 years old.

How is it that a single cutscene could be in better shape than the rest of the OT?

Forgive me if I'm being naive.

***//BUILDING EMPIRE\\: PAL & NTSC DVD - NEW EDITION NOW ONLINE! ***
Time
I finally got to see this recently. Great work, Jambe - I really wondered how someone could pull something together for ESB considering the lack of material, but I guess there isn't a lack of material at all. Thanks for identifying the potato. I love the alternate crawl - really intriguing since it would have been a break from everything that came after. I love the use of editing to create humor. I really can't wait for Returning To Jedi. The only point of criticism I would have is that it did occassionally seem like there were certain scenes with long periods of just plain movie in there - I know there's not a lot of ESB alternate footage, but I'm sure more random facts - or just plain commentary - could have been crammed in. This is a very minor issue, though. Even that said, this and Deleted Magic are probably my favorite fan-created projects so far; although the Deleted Magic comparison is probably getting tired, to me, they are equal for different reasons. Still, it would be interesting to see you go back and do SW...

Here's a random question - what sound mix would ESB have if it were broadcast on HBO in 1985 or so? That's the version I grew up with.

.avi to DVD + .srt
Time
I have an .avi file of Turkish Star Wars, as well as an .srt file (translation subtitles?). If I wanted to make a DVD out of this, with the .srt file applied properly, how would I go about doing this? I don't need menus or anything fancy for the authoring - just an autoplaying DVD that I can watch in my player. Thanks!

[<( The Star Wars TV Commercials Project )>] (* unfinished project * - a host of info)
Time
I have a pretty big collection of SW commercials of varying quality - I'll upload it later for whoever wants it, just in case it could be useful.

http://www.bubblegoose.com/ClassicCommercials/commercials.html
http://www.x-entertainment.com/downloads/

Some of the SW commercials can be found at the sites above - again, the quality is kind of low, but I don't know if anything better is out there.

I am trying to track down any SW video game commercials or advertisements for a project I am working on. If anyone could help me with that, I'd appreciate it. Some of our two projects will be overlapping.

Here is my progress so far. First, I called the number listed on our front page. I explained my issue and was told that I should instead call (415) 623-1962. When I called this number and explained my issue, I was directed to publicity@lucasfilm.com. I have not received a response yet.

Everyone who attends this forum needs to call or write in. If you have not done so yet, please do so. If we can get everyone to call or write in, we might be able to make a difference. If you do nothing, you have no right to complain later, here or anywhere else. It's just like voting.

Here is a copy of what I sent if anyone wants a template:

===========================================================================

Dear Lucasfilm,

First off, let me please say that I am very happy with Lucasfilm's choice to release the original, unaltered Star Wars trilogy on DVD. I think it is a decision that has been a long time coming, and I am really pleased to see it.

That being said, I would really like to see three of the highest-grossing, highest-rated films in history be given somewhat better treatment in the formal release planned for September. I completely understand the financial considerations involved in the sort of clean-up and restoration that would be involved in such a product, but I really think a disservice is being done to many loyal fans here, many of whom have purchased countless releases of the films over the years.

If, as has been stated in the form letter recently issued, Lucasfilm has no intention of ever releasing a restored version (beyond what has already been done) of the original trilogy, it is my hope that the company will allow a third-party company to handle any restoration.

In the end, I think many people are interested in any changes that George Lucas has made to the Star Wars movies as well as any changes that he chooses to make to his films in the coming years. I respect his artistic liberty. I just think that people should still be given the choice to choose which version they enjoy the most - i.e. the availability to purchase a different version of the films.

In the best case scenario, there would be a huge original trilogy release, containing the following:
- the original theatrical versions of the films
- the 1997 special editions
- the 2004 special editions
- all audio track variations of each film

In addition to that, it would be really nice for Lucasfilm to add bonus material for the original trilogy in the way that they have for the prequel trilogy. What has been announced for September is the first step, but it is a baby step.

Of particular interest to me is any deleted scene or cut scene material from the original trilogy. These scenes have been scattered across a variety of making-of specials (which are all now out of print) for years; it would be nice to have them consolidated in one source, such as the original trilogy release.

It is my hope that if nothing more is done to the original, unaltered trilogy this September, that at least Lucasfilm will "spice up" this release by adding a bonus disc full of deleted scenes and similar archival material. This is something that fans have been wanting for years but have never received in a good quality form. I think that adding something like this to the set would go a long way towards pleasing fans.

I'll be the first to say that Star Wars fans go too far sometimes, and can be overly obsessive. However, this only proves that they are good purchasers. Why not give them what they want?

For the record, I will be buying the set that has been announced for September, but it is my hope that by the time it reaches store shelves, the original trilogy bonus material will be of a somewhat higher level of quality than has been originally planned.

Thank you for your time.

Rebelscum, can you edit your post so that "Lynne Hale" is credited to that quote and not me? I never said that and it sickens me that it's even attributed to me.

Neil, that's probably the funniest line I've ever read here. I know you're being serious, and I understand why and agree with you, but that is still hilarious.

I agree. I think this is a great idea. If we are going to get any results, the only way we can do it is to be united in our endeavor. I have been wanting to call, but I wanted to know what to ask for that would be what everyone wants. Personally, I want the original version, no fixes - it was good enough in 1977, 1980 and 1983, so why can't it be now? If we can change the petition here to ask for that, I think we should, given recent developments.

As for any bonus features (or extra requests), I second the request for all deleted scenes. Can you imagine how great it would be to see the trilogy with the cut scenes added back in, in good quality?

It bothers me that the OUT is being released as bonus material. Why not release the 1997 SE's as "bonus material" too if they are also showing GL's "creative process," on his way towards the "awesomeness" that is the 2004 release?

Anyway, let's get this petition up and running - they still aren't giving us what we're asking for. At this rate, they might as well be releasing an official version of the EditDroid set (which I love). I'll be buying LFL's set when it comes out, regardless of what happens; I think the only reason any of us have ever resorted to the means we have here has been out of love for the OT.

At the same time, let's keep kicking and screaming till we get what we want. Everything up to this point from LFL has just been an announcement - think of how many announcements of releases get delayed, for whatever reasons. Let's make the September 12 release get delayed because we are demanding what we have always wanted.

This is a call to arms. Everyone here should answer.

If nothing has been done to help you over the next few days I'll be able to help you (haven't burnt discs yet, the computer containing it wont be online for a few more days). I don't have the Mono Mix disc yet though, so I don't have any DVD-ROM content for that, if there is any.

Sounds great - thanks!

MagnoliaFan Edits: Ep I "Balance Of The Force", and Ep II "The Clone War" (Released)

MagnoliaFan,

I love both your original revisions, but I have a suggestion for the redo of Episode I -

- Don't use the Imperial March when you show Darths Sidious and Maul; there's no "Empire" yet - maybe the emperor's creepy throne room theme from ROTJ would sound better (to me at least).

Again, this is just my opinion.
