Maybe Darth Editous can tackle them.

Those are the ones - I've hated them ever since I was 6.

I had thought I'd read somewhere that maybe someone like ocpmovie fixed them, or someone else, but I couldn't track down anything when looking again.

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)
Time
You heard me complain about the Dune footage before, and I still think it will stand out like sore thumb. I love the idea of com-link battle banter - that whole battle is absent of it. Honestly, another reason I think adding more fighting in will not help is because the battle in itself is overlong, all together, as it stands - there's really nothing very striking about it, either. I mean, you've been working with the movie a lot, Trooperman, but can anyone else really remember much of what happens to either side? I think maybe the most memorable thing is when they shoot down the droid pod-ships. Anyone recall much else? For these reasons, I think com-link chat would add something missing - otherwise, we just hear a lot of machinery and explosions.

This also reminds me - am I the only person who hates the "Vietnam helicopter"-style shot towards the beginning of the battle, showing a quick zoom in of the folks hanging out of the open sides of the clone troopers aerial fighters? Can you get that outta there?

Making our own 35mm preservation--my crazy proposal

I don't embrace capitalism whole-heartedly (especially regarding control over artistic creations) and I do think that consumers should be able to dictate what publishers and copyright holders have to do.

We live in a digital world. What is so freaking hard about making a digital version of everything (such as, all 20 billion versions of Star Wars floating around) that anyone can buy, and then making it available online for free download and/or purchase? What is so wrong with the idea of perpetual license? How many versions of Star Wars do fans have to buy before they are "bestowed" access to that one single work and all the litter (alternate audio, deleted scenes, outtakes, etc.) that came along with directing it?

So, what were we talking about again?

Yes, the colors were off in the pre-THX LDs, but consistently. There was scene-by-scene color correction applied to the Definitive Collection, which means it's a much more complex task to return to theatrical color from them (as I'm sure Zion & MBJ will testify). Now it's probable this would have been done between a D1 master and a D2 intermediate (probably along with the DVNR), so sourcing the DVD from the D1 would get you arguably closer to the theatrical color. However, it's possible that the color correction was applied to undo fading present in the IP, in which case the inverse would be true (but you'd have to put up with DVNR smearing and composite video). If anyone has more info about the DC CC or the exact source of the DVD, I'd like to know. Apologies to all for going off topic.

So what official VHS/Laserdisc/DVD release has the most accurate color compared to the theatrical versions? And do people really, honestly remember the colors exactly? Even with comparison to theatrical reels, I can't imagine the color on those being the same, genuine non-faded color of the original originals.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if she did fan edits of the PT's?

Oh, I trust he has done plenty of work - I just want more information and I was hoping someone who had seen it might be able to provide a review/overview. There are a lot of PT edits that are the same movies without the crap, but they are all unique in their own ways too. I want to know what makes this unique.

What is really nice is that this a complete PT edit.

BFI preserving OOT!!
Time

Inspired by the recent thread about the original editing team on the OOT, I'm considering writing to some of the people who made the OOT what it was, in the hope that some of them may join in putting pressure on LucasFilm to end its suppression of the OOT in theatres and on home release (I do not consider the September discs as a satisfactory release).

People I would like to write to are:

Irvin Kershner (Dir. ESB)
Richard Marquand (Dir. ROTJ)
Gary Kurtz (Pro. ANH & ESB)
Howard Kazanjian (Pro. ROTJ)
Lawrence Kasdan (Scr. ESB & ROTJ)
Gilbert Taylor (DOP ANH)
Peter Suschitzky(DOP ESB)
Alan Hume (DOP ROTJ)
Richard Chew (Ed. ANH)
Paul Hirsch (Ed. ANH & ESB)
Marcia Lucas (Ed. ANH, ESB & ROTJ)
Duwayne Dunham (Ed. ROTJ)
Sean Barton (Ed. ROTJ)
John Dykstra (SFX ANH)
Ralph McQuarrie (Conceptual Artist, Illustrator & Backgrounds ANH, ESB & ROTJ)
John Barry (Pro. Des. ANH)
Norman Reynolds (Pro. Des. ESB & ROTJ)
John Mollo (Cos. Des. ANH & ESB)
Aggie Guerard Rodgers (Cos. Des. ROTJ)
Nilo Rodis-Jamero (Cos. Des. ROTJ)

I may also consider writing to performers like Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, David Prowse, James Earl Jones, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Frank Oz, Ian McDiarmid, Billy Dee Williams, Jeremy Bulloch...

I could try John Williams too.

I figure that, if I ask, some of them may be prepared to go on record as being against LucasFilm's policy.

All comments / suggestions welcome!

That's a great idea - I'd be happy to help when I can. This should be a separate thread, though.
