Star Wars 3-D?
Time
"It's not going to happen this year. It's not going to happen by the end of next year. In addition, the process to do the movie turns out to be a little more expensive than initially thought. So you have the theaters converting, you have the costs of converting one or all of the six Star Wars movies into 3-D"

It's a shame this company, that is so concerned with the costs of making a good OT set on DVD/next gen discs, can blow so much on doing something that is unnecessary. Wouldn't it be nice if Lucasfilm said something like, "Okay - it will take a lot of work to restore our film for a good comprehensive OT, and we won't have it for you by next year, but it is coming." Instead we get news about Lucasfilm's continued dedication toward this 3D thing that no one has ever really asked for.

"and you have the fact that the technology involves wireless battery-operated glasses that blink maybe a thousand times a second; it's not like a read and blue"

Do those things really sound safe? I'm sure epileptics won't be able to use them. Jesus.

That's a shame. Pretty ridiculous when you think about it. "Here is a new video storage format - now, average consumer, you must pay a monthly service to do what your VCR used to be able to do! Muah ha ha ha!"

Now, aren't there DVD players that can also record straight to DVD? Are those any good?

"'Star Wars' people use 'Star Wars' as a springboard for dealing with life. So when they’re frustrated with their jobs they complain about the quality of the print transfer onto the new 'Empire Strikes Back' DVD release and fight over giant promotional buttons that say 'Han shoots first!'"

And I guess "reporters" begin editorializing when they are frustrated about the smallness of their writing talent/penises.

See? Anyone can make vast sweeping assumptions! It's fun!

By the way, Gaffer Tape, I sent you a pm - did you get it?

My re-burn fixed the locking up/direct play into Troops, but hitting the menu button still just takes a step backwards by a second - it's weird. Oh well, maybe it's just my burner.

The disc is great, though. Some really nice things on there that I'd wanted to see for ages but have never had the chance. Thanks for compiling it!

DVR Devices - What are they all about?

Okay, I'll preface this by saying I've never owned a Tivo or DVR or anything like that.

My question is, is there a device that you can hook up to record video from cable television that does not involve a subscription-based service and does not involve using your computer (at first)? For instance, are there any recorders that will record a digital video file of a tv show that I can then (after recording) transfer the file to my computer to burn to a DVD?

What I want, essentially, is a digital VCR that will allow me to transfer files to my PC for manipulation/authoring, without having to pay a monthly service, while still getting high-quality. Does such a thing exist?

- One interview with Mr Toby Philpott (via email) which I will be including quotes from for 'Returning to Jedi'. I also intend to put a text file of the interview transcript in the DVD-ROM extras.

- Some mostly unheard interviews from around the time on their way to me

- Some 'lightsaber construction scene' goodies in the pipeline.

- Confirmation of a deleted scene from an official source, with paperwork to back it up!

The 'doco' itself is taking shape and looking real nice!

This is going to be great! I know so little about ROTJ's behind-the-scenes stuff.

Sorry to hear about the menu problems. It was my first-ever disc so it may not be perfect, but I don't know if I've noticed the kinds of problems you're suggesting.

Don't get me wrong - the disc is great and I would recommend it to anyone here. I just wanted to see if the issue was something on my end or something inherent in the disc (before I do a reburn). I'll reburn it, just in case. If that doesn't fix things, I am still perfectly happy with what I've got.

I just burned Spoofs and Bonus Features.

So far, I've never had bad results with my burning process, but with this particular disc, it is a little sketchy. I am curious as to if there was some sort of burning error or just rough DVD architecture on this disc.

In particular, my problems relate to the disc's menu. When the disc first starts, sometimes it skips the menu and goes straight into Troops. Other times, it does hit the menu. Sometimes, when switching from the first to second menu, the second menu locks and gets pixellated. While playing a feature, hitting the menu button on my remote does not return to the main menu, but rather makes the scene loop the last few seconds before resuming.

Other than all that, this is a great disc and I got to see a bunch of things I'd not seen before. Thanks for making it, ADigitalMan!

first viewing of the 2006 OOT dvds

I think the true purpose of this release came out at Comic Con. As Sansweet explains, the initial intent was to sell the SE individually. Then, they asked if they could add the OOT as a double-package, likely explaining all the revenue lost from bootlegs--which Lucas agrees to, provided absolutely no money is spent doing it. So they dig up the Laserdisk masters from a dusty drawer at the Lucasfilm archives and bingo--the hottest selling point of the year! "OOT on DVD!"

Thats all there is to it. They are getting rid of the excess 2004 SE stock, just like they were in 2005 when they re-sold the box set at a reduced price. Since that set sold so poorly they are marketing the new re-sale with the OOT.

And at a slighty higher price, right?

About $45 for the trilogy set, $20 a pop for the individually packaged films.

Since everyone wants to be able to JUST buy ROTJ and not the other two.

Apparently there's rights issues around the pilot vs. the series. And then there's FIRE WALK WITH ME and the deleted scenes there....

My family has this on VHS. I'm not willing to sell/trade it, but it would be a nice thing to back up...

I like the EditDroid set a lot too. You could always rip the OOT release video/soundtrack and replace the EditDroid video/soundtrack with it, and keep the menus/bonus features, couldn't you? It will probably be as nice or nicer than the OOT release, anyway. I really hope that the "bonus disc" OOT at least has a menu and doesn't just auto play.

I know - I didn't mean anything by it, I was just making fun of the whole situation. (Are three clarifying subtitles necessary for a film that started out with a two-word title?) In 1997, though, that was the technical title of the movie as it was presented. It's just sad.

-Shmi’s dialogue and scream *does* sound canned. You could add some reverb to her voice and make it sound more dream-like.

Side note: I think it would be alot of fun to have Anakin say: “I have you now!” just like in ANH. Not sure what scene though...

I agree with the enunciation - I still don't know what was being said after "training."

The reverb and tooling around would help alot.

ANY infamous Vader lines you can include would be cool.

Info: The Prequel Trilogy - The 20th Century Mark Edits (Released)
Time
Well, I got to watch The Phantom Menace the other night, and I really enjoyed it. The movie isn't cut up a whole lot, but a lot of the changes are subtle - there are quite a few of them, too. I would place the editing somewhere between The Phantom Edit and Balance Of The Force. Overall, it's a really nice package and the trailers following the credits make for nice lead-ins into the next film.

Has anyone else seen this yet? I think it's awesome that Mark did a complete PT edit. I just like that more and more people are messing with the PT, like ADigitalMan, Slumberland, Trooperman, and the others.
