2006 SE/GOUT hybrid script project - UPDATE: 05-24-11 see 1st & 2nd post...

Moth3r is right.  This is the NTSC version.  I've heard on this forum that the PAL GOUT is not so great for ANH and ESB. With that being said, is the PAL SE transferred correctly, or is it a conversion from NTSC like the GOUT? Just wondering because I have both but to be honest I've never even loaded the PAL discs to look at them.

Dark JEDI,

Instead of this

hdragc(max_sat=1.0,coef_gain=0.3,min_gain=0.5,max_gain=1.5,protect=1,reducer=1)

You could try something like this and then tweak it up or down til you find what you want.

hdragc(max_sat=1.0,coef_gain=0.1,min_gain=0.1,max_gain=0.3,protect=1,reducer=1)

**EDIT**

These settings are really not so great for the HDR filter.  I didn't know much about HDRAGC when i posted this.  The settings for HDRAGC in the updated script are much better.

Yeah, if the footage wasn't distractingly different I left it in.  The less gout footage the better but with the least amount of "Special" as possible was the idea lol. I dunno maybe if I run g-force's script through the gout and it blends pretty good with the se in this script I could just edit out the "special" crap altogether.

2006 SE/GOUT hybrid script project - UPDATE: 05-24-11 see 1st & 2nd post...
Time

UPDATE 05-24-2011

I’ve decided to post this script for SW when it is not finished so that people can take a look at it as I work on it. This script uses several different methods to make the SE look like the GOUT in color and retain the clarity of the SE.

The script does require a 24mb download of a deshaker.log file which can be found here.  If you look through the script you’ll find a variable called COL. This is where the path to the deshaker log should be entered.

Here’s a short clip of some random scenes from the script.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQ-wEd3_S50

Here’s a longer clip that is about 5 1/2 minutes long.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5zSR0Zdo2U

There’s no sound and  Youtube compression has made it a bit blocky. There are a few frames from the original gout but I think they blend in pretty well.

UPDATE 05-24-2011

I’ve uploaded another clip onto yt.  I’m almost finished with SW.  I’m fixing maybe one or two more wipes so as to be able to include more SE footage and maybe a couple things here and there and then it’s finished for now.  I’ll probably go back and fix any bad chroma alignment if people point it out. I’m tired of working on SW and would like to move on to ESB for the time being.

Info Wanted: Has anyone tried capturing the 1992 LD 4:3 pan and scan copies?
Time

Seems like the only way to feasibly do this would be to have something similar to the gimp image registration plugin(it automatically resizes, scales, and aligns similar images according to a reference image), but I don't know of anything like it in avisynth.  Anybody know of something like this?

I'm not really interested in overlaying the pan & scan versions with the widescreen but I would like to overlay the jsc, gout, and se using the jsc chroma information to be able to mix and match the gout and se dvd's without having to worry about color correction.  Unfortunately the cropping on each edition is different so the only way I can imagine to do this would be to register the images together before transfering the chroma.

Info Wanted: Pre-'93 Japanese Special Collection LD transfers?

Dark_Jedi,  I'm glad you've succeeded.  I'll probably continue with my manual IVTC as well just because of the time it would take me to manually freeze and capture each frame.  However, I did a little test run of about 1500 frames just as a proof of concept and it seems to work rather well. I'm pretty sure I'd lose my mind if I did over 170,000 frames this way though.

Mallwalker, thanks for the info and the experience.  I pulled up frame 17087 on side 2 of JSC ANH and it's a blended frame.  One field is Tarkin with vader standing to his right just after choking out a dissident officer.  The other field is R2-D2 helping 3po burn some Jawas.

This set is so screwed up but to my eyes it looks a lot better than the DC or Faces when it is in motion.  If anyone finds a bulletproof way to IVTC this thing automatically please let me know :).

Info Wanted: Pre-'93 Japanese Special Collection LD transfers?
Time

Hi Guys.  I've been an avid reader of this forum since about 2007 I guess.  This is my first post because it's maybe the first time I've had an idea that might be worth posting.  I'm sure some of you guys know this already but I haven't seen it mentioned in arnie's or dark_jedi's JSC threads.

I have a cld-hf9g and the JSC trilogy which I've been trying to capture and encode but I have run into the same problem as everyone else.  The IVTC is very hard to get right.

I've noticed however that the frame counter on the laserdisc player is displaying frames at 24 fps/sec.  I did a little reading around and found this page.  According to this if you use freeze frame on a cav disc it will ignore the pulldown flags and display the frames progressively at 24fps, albeit one by one.  It seems like a colossal undertaking to capture the whole movie frame by frame but maybe it's the best way?  Maybe with a laserdisc player that accepts rs-232 commands it would be possible to write a script to increment the frames and take snapshots of them.

I could be mistaken about all of this so if it's garbage someone feel free to let me know.
