Extract Composite Video Baseband Signal from Laserdisc RF...
Time

Some capture cards digitize things and do internal processing at 12bit instead of 8.  However, if you allow the signal to pass through the tbc and comb filter of the player it gets sampled at 8bit before ever leaving the player. It seems like allowing the capture card to sample at 12bit would allow for the comb filter etc. in the card to make much better decisions in respect to y/c separation and denoising.

I've been pouring through schematics of the hld-x0 in the service manual.  I was thinking of just ordering the parts needed to recreate the ntsc demodulation of this player since it is the best of the best.  This would also allow me to simply look at the schematic as a reference whilst wiring everything together.  Compiling a list of all the parts will be easy but finding them for purchase online might not be.  There seems to be 2 IC's which are probably going to be hard to find.  The rest is just capacitors, resistors, and transistors which are all available from ebay.

Extract Composite Video Baseband Signal from Laserdisc RF...

Yeah his project is pretty awesome.  However, he is still using the laserdisc player's analog filters to get the composite signal. I'd like to bypass everything in the laserdisc player if possible.

If I can get to a point where I can extract a clean composite signal before the TBC, the first thing I'm going to do is feed it to his program and see what pops out.

Can somebody explain to me how to make a circuit that would do this?  I have 3 Laserdisc players and am willing to cannibalize 1 or 2 of them in an attempt to do this.  According to this information, it should be possible to tap the RF signal directly from the pickup and chop off everything below 4mhz with a high-pass filter and then you are left with just the video portion of the signal.  I think you could then feed this signal into a capture card and totally bypass the ancient circuitry of the player itself.

I possess the skills to solder things together but I lack the knowledge of how to design the circuit.  Is there somebody who could assist me with designing this?  I would be the one doing all of the legwork, of course.  I just need somebody with the brains to tell me how to do it in layman/caveman terms.

I've never uploaded a finished version of the JSC to the newsgroup so that must have been another user.  I do plan on posting the new par set to ESB side 4 sometime soon though. I was just waiting to see if Mallwalker had any success :).

Other than that, I think all of the files should be in working order.  It sounds like several people have been able to download and unpack everything successfully.

Unfortunately I deleted the rar's and par's because I thought the problem was fixed and I needed to clear the hdd space.  Is it possible for me to make another rar archive with the same size parts and make some new par's?  If so, I can generate some new pars and send them to some transfer site or google drive or something for you to download.

Ok, I've tested the archive with winrar and everything is fine.  I've verified the par2 files. I've also checked the rar's and par's with sfv and everything checked out ok.  I've also extracted the file from the archive and it went just fine.  I'm assuming something happened during the upload or on the server side so it should be an easy fix to just re-upload the 4 corrupted parts if I understand correctly.

Should I give them a different name so they don't get thrown into the same collection, or is it ok if they have the same title?

Thanks so much for this, althor1138!  I've been waiting a long time to have access to a high quality transfer of the JSC :)

Edit:
I seem to be having some problems with a few corrupt parts of ESB Side 4, which I cannot get to repair.  PM sent.

What is the correct protocol for replacing corrupted parts in the newsgroup?  Should i just repost the corrupt parts with "re-up" in the title so everybody knows what they are?  I guess the best situation would be if the corrupt parts could be replaced but somehow I don't think that's possible.

I'm glad that the people who are interested in these captures will get to play with them in raw form.  There is more to come as well.  The 97SE looks pretty awesome.  I think with some adjusting a lot of the scenes from the 97SE could rival or eclipse the gout in quality.  There aren't any lobster faces/crushed blacks like in the '04DVD either. There are still a few scenes that suffer from the DNR but it doesn't seem to be as offensive as the GOUT.

Thanks a lot for posting those althor.
I've got a few sides downloaded, but probably take a few weeks for me to finish getting the rest.
After I've gotten them I'd be happy to help with IVTC scripts.

Personally I'm not interested in DC.

The masochist in me might like to finally finish IVTC of the time-compressed '82 disc.
Did you plan on posting that one someday?

That would be excellent.  Thanks for the offer.

I do actually still have the raw file with sound to the '82 P&S so yeah I could post that.  I do plan on posting the '97SE first though so it'll be a few weeks at least before I get around to that.  It's 60+ gb just so you know lol.

The raw captures of the JSC trilogy are now available.  The IVTC scripts I have for SW and ESB are complete, but still have several errors that need fixed.  I plan on fixing them, but who knows when I'll actually get around to it.

My captures of the '97SE turned out pretty good imo so I'll probably post those next.  I have IVTC scripts for the '97SE Trilogy finished already.  They had minimal cadence changes, unlike the JSC.

Also, I don't see a reason to post the DC but the extra material might be of value to some?

OK I just ordered this card,

http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Theater-PCIE-Tuner-Card/dp/B003F8O690/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=3FNYQ0DFNN1CP&coliid=IWESQTQ8WK53Z

so is there any tips or tricks I should know when I test it out? like I said I have only used the Canopus ADVC-110 before so this is new territory for me lol, and as mentioned before I will be using my Pioneer CLD-79 Elite Player, and I assume you guys use VDub for capturing?

Thanks

I'm using win7x64 with this card.  I just installed the card and turned on the computer and if I remember right win7 installed a driver automatically and I just used that one.  Maybe you'll need the driver from the disc though.  I only ever use VDUB for capturing with this card because if I use it with other programs it gets confused and then won't work properly in VDUB without a reinstall sometimes.

If you get it to work I think you'll be happy with the card.  If the CLD-79 has any adjustable comb filter settings I'd turn it all completely off or down and let the Theater750HD card handle all of the separation and filtering.  That's all I've got.  Good luck!
