RotLA: Live-to-Projection Concert Ticket Give-a-way
Time

I know it’s short notice but I’m giving away a ticket for Raiders of the Lost Ark: Live-to-Projection concert featuring the American Youth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Carlos Izcaray, at the Royce Hall-UCLA. Los Angeles, CA for this Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 4pm.

https://aysymphony.org/2018/09/21/raiders/

The “ticket” is a downloading PDF that you would have to print yourself. Ticketmaster handled the ticket sales on behalf of the AYSO. According to Ticketmaster’s policy, I would have to transfer the ownership of the ticket to a member with a Ticketmaster account. So, I would need to have the name and e-mail address of that member with the Ticketmaster account to do the transfer. If I’m successful at that, you’ll receive an e-mail notification from Ticketmaster that there’s a ticket for you and you would have to log-in to your Ticketmaster account to get it.

At this time, please SEND ME A PM if you’re interested and I’ll respond to one of you.

When you have your ticket, I can’t tell you what you can do with it, but I hope that you won’t resell it and, instead, just go to the concert and enjoy yourself.

As a form of self-torture–watching a partial of a print that I’ll never see as a whole, I’ve sync’d both the 5.1 Cinema DTS and the 6.1 DTS ES sound mixes to Reel 5 and watched them on my 51.5 inch screen TV.

Here is a folder of these DTS bitstreams sync’d-up to Reel 5. All the streams have been edited to fit this reel, as it is missing 14 frames—not counting the first and last shots of the reel.

Note: Since the MKV file that RU.08 provided us is set at 24fps and the DTS bitstreams are sync to 23.976 fps content, the mkv file has to be formatted from 24 fps to 23.976fps before muxing.

By chance, I went to the said link and I noticed that the file size of each file reads ‘0.’ So, if any of you have downloaded these files and found nothing in the .dts contaniers, I apologize for that.

Here is the new link for these files, that totals 607MB

Funny how none of you called me out on it, earlier. Oh, well.

1080p at bluray bitrate. It’s 7-zipped with no password and a checksum file in case you get a bad part.

The MKV file is labeled…

 tpm r5

I thought it was Reel 5, but it’s actually Reel 6.

Here is a visual breakdown of the reels. Left picture=First shot of the reel. Right picture=Last shot of the reel.
Reel 1

Reel 2

Reel 3

Reel 4

Reel 5

Reel 6

Reel 7

I’ve based this information on the CinemaDTS discs. Each .AUD file represents a reel. The file is labeled “R1T5” for Reel 1, “R2T5” for Reel 2, etc. I listened to a snippet of the beginning and end of each audio file, opened the theatrical-cut video file and identified the audio within the video file by the aid of the running time of each .AUD audio file.

After viewing it, the colors do look faded, but having watched films in my youth during the 1970 through the 1990s, that is common. I haven’t seen TPM in a long while and my last viewing was the Blu Ray, so watching this grindhouse version with digital surround sound was refreshing.

If I were given one wish of another scene to keep from that print, it would be the first 10976 frames, (approximately—to consider missing frames) of reel 4 which would be the latter end of the pod race sequence. Yes, the sequence would be incomplete, but it would be the bulk of the scene and I would be grateful for that.
(EDIT: Yes, I am referring to the Theatrical Cut, not the extended Blu Ray cut)

The first shot that appears in Reel 4 would look like this:

Scanning could stop at this shot:

After this transitional-wipe shot:

Having that said scene and Reel 5 would keep me happy until a better print comes along. For me, enjoying these select scenes would be like an HD equivalent to those home Super 8mm, condense versions of Star Wars and ESB from Ken Films.

https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Star-Wars-on-Super8/id/15797/page/15

There are some other ways that us, members, can use these incomplete scans:
• As a christening for a newly-purchased home theater system, with those audio bitstreams sync’d-up
• As material to further ones skills in film restoration.

Info Wanted: Adventures of Luke Skywalker LP
Time

This community has made preservations of these “story of Star Wars…” LP albums. You can read them here:

https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/MoveAlongs-The-Story-of-TESB-The-Adventures-of-Luke-Skywalker-Complete/id/6953/page/8

https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Star-Wars-Story-Of-LPs-The-Definitive-Collection/id/13098

You can listen to this album right now, here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XL9OEqmGfk&t=904s

What’s significant about this album is that it contains portions of an alternative sound mix for a cut of the film that was shown during the film’s first few weeks of release that began in May 25, 1980. known here in the community as the 70mm cut, as that was the format that was presented during that period. It would have lines and alternative delivery of lines that would later be removed and replaced in a slightly extended cut of the film that began playing in theaters on June 18th, 1980.

Among them, (that is, the ones I caught) were:

Luke’s line to R2D2: “You’re lucky to get out of there.” Later replaced by “You’re lucky you don’t taste very good.”

Lando’s alternative delivery: “We’ll find Han. I promise.”

How would you like a big-screen, marathon viewing of ANH, ESB, and ROTJ at a concert hall, where the entire music scores for each film is performed live, on stage, by a symphony orchestra…

…and all in one day?

Well, on July 29, some lucky folks in Tokyo, Japan can have that.

A member from the jwfan.com forum made this post about the said concert:

Hi all,

Just thought I’d pop on to say I was at the special 3 films in 1 day Star Wars performance in Tokyo.

As someone who has been a long time lover to be able to hear all 3 scores live for the first time in 1 day was a magnificent moment.
For the most part the orchestra were heros and the sound produced fitted the cues I know so well. The only criticism points I could have were -

The Ewok sound effect music wasn’t perfect

There was no “choir” effect for the Emperor’s throne room

But apart from that especiall the Cloud City part of ESB was spectacular.

The Orchestra got a loud 5 minute standing ovation at the end for obvious reasons - 10 hours of performance in 1 day.

and this:

Started 11am finished at 09:45pm at night.

The tickets were 32,000 yen and sold out very quickly - they had a special credit card sized ticket - proper embossed like a store card which you put in to a lanyard to make it easy for readmission in the mad rush to get food.

20 minute breaks at the half way points of the film and 90 minute breaks between films.

A recipe for sore posterior.

Not something I was interested in but they were selling a special LP version of A New Hope - is that being sold in the west or Japan only?

I’ve not burned the DVDiso to a disc.

However, when I opened it or, mount it, via the free third party software, Virtual CloneDrive, it created a faux BD drive exclusively for the ROTP disc, it immediately opened the file, and out on my screen popped the menu. Through the menu, I was able to select the videos (reel 1, reel 2, etc.) just by moving my cursor to the title I want and double-click it.

Great job on the DVD.

I have it on ok’ish authority that it was the special edition at the Hollywood Bowl last night. The concert was amazing! Took a few videos:

https://youtu.be/EmK2u2mjWuU

https://youtu.be/LBK0xNlUZYo

Let’s be specific:

The version that was shown at the concert is not the Special Edition 1997 version, but the 2011 edition that’s on the Blu Ray and streaming services.

Regarding the second YouTube video that you provided, @abouttreefitty, as Luke is falling in the reactor shaft, Luke’s scream from the SE’97 is not heard at that concert.

Also, when the Emperor, via hologram, is talking to Vader in his chambers, it’s Ian McDiarmid’s image that is seen at that concert and not the female-faced, monkey-eyed one from the ’97 version that is a carry-over from the ’80 version.

The week of August 9th the unaltered cut of ESB is going to be shown at the Hollywood bowl with a full orchestra. I’m not there but I wonder if any of our “agents” on this site can manage to snag it.

@LordZerome1080, I appreciate your post and the news.

However, I am very skeptical about the “unaltered cut” part.

All the ESB:Live-to-Projection concerts from around the world have screened the version that was used in the Blu Ray with those extraneous extra footage…

  • Vader and entourage entering shuttle at Bepsin
  • Outtake footage from ROTJ

I am sure that there are some fans, out there, that would love to not only hear this entire score live performed by a symphony orchestra, but also hear it accompanied by the GOUT-ESB.

May I ask you to show us a link where this concert will screen the ‘unaltered’ version, please?

Looks like the Casino Royale cut shown at the Wolf Trap concert, last Sunday, was the international cut. Here are a few images of shots exclusive in the international cut. The top is from the international cut Blu Ray, the bottom is that same frame, as seen in the concert. 'Sorry for the out of focus quality.

At this time, the closet that Americans will get to have Casino Royale-Live is in Canada.

Have any of you in the USA seen the international cut in a USA theater?

Anyone, here, going to Wolf Trap-Vienna, VA for the Casino Royale (2006)-live to projection concert?

That concert began playing in London’s Royal Albert Hall in 2017. Here are a few videos from that concert-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfsTiFoVD0s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pBpwhTbtXU

This concert had played this year in Switzerland, Japan, and Poland were the audience saw the international cut that has 22 seconds of extra footage. In those YouTube videos, there’s a shot during the bathroom fight scene where Bond bashes the bad guy with a full-length swivel door. That shot is not in the USA cut. That said fight and the stairwell fight scenes were trimmed for USA theaters to satisfy the MPAA–over 4 and 3/4th seconds and over 18 and a half seconds were removed for each scene, respectively. The music for these scenes were edited to fit the length of trimmed scenes.

Wolf Trap is the first USA territory for Casino Roayle-Live concert. I am curious as to what cut they are going to play there, this Sunday–the USA cut or the extended International cut. If the USA cut is to be screened, the concert’s producers, Film Concerts Live, would have to do the work in transcribing the edited music of these said trimmed sequences on to the orchestral pages for the musicians to play, among other things to consider.

Either way, this event will be interesting to witness.

Edit:
Read about the International cut vs USA cut here

The shot during the “Luke Pull up” it looks like and this is the only way I can explain it, someone turn the brightness up high for that one shot.

Why don’t you make a screenshot of the image you are talking about.

Just press “PrntScr” on your keyboard for the image in question, save the photo, go to a photo-hosting website and upload the screenshot that you saved, copy the link of the screenshot from the photo-hosting website, and paste the link here.

I need help with Star Wars 4k77 1080p from MKV files, SRT files?, to ISO file...
Time

One of the MKV files, “03-TN1LFL” (that 10-second “Team Negative 1” Logo) has an AAC audio codec and it is not compatible with Blu Ray. The audio codecs on the other video files, DTS and AC3, are Blu Ray compliant.

One option would be to change the AAC codec on the video to an AC3 audio codec. Use the free software, Handbrake. Just load that video and select in the audio tab, AC3. As a result, it will give you a MP4 video of the TN1 logo with an AC3 audio bitstream. Save the MP4 video under the same title, “03-TN1LFL” and replace the MKV version (don’t delete it, just place the MKV version somewhere else). Then, try building your Blu Ray ISO again.

Good Luck

If someone would like to check the proxy scan for missing frames or other issues, please drop me a PM.

Speaking as one of the monetary donors of this project, I would much like to have the first release of the SE’97 be grindhoused—with skipped-frames, reel-change cue marks on the upper right-hand corner, faded color, random dirt spots of varying sizes, dried-on adhesive marks, with a “pop"y and static optical soundtrack…

…and a cherry on top over whip cream.

The frame I am most curious about is the one where Luke is recovering inside the bacta tank with Han, Leia, Chewie and 3PO watching. That scene looks so different from one edition to another that I don’t know which one is the correct one.

This shot?

(Note this isn’t from the print, I just want to clarify which shot you mean.)

Although I do not know @fmalover personally, I’m going on the assumption that the said shot is the one he’s referencing. He had created a thread here…

It involved this frame…
