Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

I was just watching the ILM: Creating the impossible documentary and they showed a few scenes from TPM. Now this was presented in HD and this was definitely the new TPM transfer that will be on the Blu-Ray. The difference between the existing HD transfer (which is the same as the DVD transfer) and the new one is astounding. Now this was taken from a compressed broadcast so some detail is probably lost, like grain etc, but now the proof is out there that it will indeed be a new transfer with the colouring fixed.

http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/3503/arenasq.th.jpg

Now they also showed a few clips from the OT and, to me, the colouring looked almost the same as the 2004 transfer. I'm going to go through it to get some comparison snapshots and i'll post them later. But if the colouring is indeed the same then you can almost guarantee that this is what we'll get for the Blu-Ray. And to kenkraly, before you pipe in and say you're convinced that the colours will be fixed for the millionth time, just stop to think about this: Why would they use clips from the  new transfer of TPM, yet not use a new transfer of the OT? Well that's because they haven't done anything to it and that the 2004 version is what will be on the Blu-Ray.

The Executor yes its a matter that needs to be fixed. Not that is wrong and i dont count any nostalgia here, just is a copy paste element that for some reason makes the ship looks small in the asteroid shot.

vaderios said:

Any change you will replace the executor element in one of the two shots( establishing at the beginning of the movie and in the asteroid shot) that is a flipped element?

There are no flipped or re-used images of the executor in the movie (i don't count the added SE shot during the bespin escape that they couldn't even be bothered to recolour to match the rest of the movie). As you can see here they are 2 different takes in the 2 shots you mentioned. I flipped the asteroid one so you can see that they aren't the same

If i was to change the angle of the ship then wouldn't i have to use an existing shot for this, which would then create a copy paste scenario? The shot is fine as it is. I've never had a problem with it, and i don't think there would be any stardestroyers following it out as vader would have ordered them to continue the search for the falcon.

Any word of the second unit led by 'Rogue Leader', did Ady send out all the backpacks and props he created?

I haven't sent the stuff off to Rogue Leader yet as i still have a couple of things to finish. With everything that has been going on it left me little time to get them done, but they're almost complete. Then i've just got to find £200+ to ship the items to the USA.

Tallguy said:

So, if that's the rebel cave that the Falcon just flew out of, doesn't that mean that Darth Vader is RIGHT THERE?

No, the hangar entrance that you see in the transport shot is a different entrance. You can see the distinction between the two in the new shot i posted (well almost but you will see it clearly in motion)

How's the camera working by the way, Ady? Are you satisfied with the results?

It's working pretty well so far. I did some test shots and it looks pretty good.

Adywan, I think you should just give up on this Wampa. It's taking too long and you don't even know if this is going to work? I thought the one in the movie sufficed. I think you should have just edited using that.

You ve got guts i can say that to you!

Now i can see the endless debate that will defend the opposite point of view.( ESF already started XD)

At least someone expressed it ;) Thanks

-Angel

Wow, so i guess from that statement Angel that you feel exactly the same way as Ghostbusters about this then?

If i was to have this attitude then i wouldn't have done hardly anything in the Revisited edits. I have the mindset that anything is possible and that you don't know what you can achieve until you try it. I would rather this edit takes another 3 years to complete than rush things and discard things just because it may be a little too difficult or would take a lot of time to achieve.

I think i know which scene you are talking about. It's the one where we see the shadow of the stardestroyer covering up the stardestroyer just after the probe has been destroyed. The TIE that goes behind the bridge has been removed and the one that looks like it comes from behind the bridge actually just appears from nowhere as it is missing from the first few frames. All these have been fixed in this shot, but i haven't seen this happening anywhere else apart from this shot.

Sorry.

Feel free to PM me whenever there's a problem, I'll try my best to clean up the thread.

No need to be sorry Moth3r, i was saying it in a humourous way and not as a complaint.

God, i'm away for a little while and it's gone a little mad in here.

I can't believe that the transport shot has been brought up again. I guess this is what happens when and old pic is posted again without the description or any of the comments i made after it.

This was a MOCK-UP shot and was only to try out the new partially finished matte and ship placement. The ships hadn't even been rendered at their full resolution at this stage and the whole image was far from complete. I also stated that there was some more background activity with pilots/troopers to add once the 2nd unit filming was complete that will give the scene it's scale.  The 2nd unit saw a more complete video version a few days later and a lot of thing had changed now i had the full resolution renders. Here's the newer version minus the added background characters:

Now i've got a lot of reading to do to see what else i missed. If anyone is awaiting a reply to any emails or PM's , i will get around to answering them as soon as i can

Misfits (UK tv show)
Time

I love Misfits. One of the best programs to come from British TV for a long time. And series 2 is shaping up to be even better than the first, which is a rarity. It is a perfect mix between humour, drama and horror. Wipes the floor with programs like Heroes .

Bingowings, ah the Tomorrow People, that brings back a lot of memories. I can remember when i was a small kid everyone use to play pretending we were one of them. Grabbing our belts and pretending we could jaunt.

Looks like a cake mould. :) What's the error? Did they use a different prop in ROTJ? Has something to do with the junk around his mouth, doesn't it? My memory is fuzzy on this.

lol. The error is that he is wearing his ESB shirt before he is frozen, but the carbon block has him wearing his ANH shirt. And the same error exists in ROTJ too.

Can't believe that i was able to get a casting of this off a collector for only £35

That executor underside is only down to the crushed blacks in the 2004 transfer. You could see the underside prior to this. Unless a hd transfer of the pre 2004 version ESB miraculously turns up it's going to have to stay that way i'm afraid. CG isn't an option either. And i don't want to replace it with a different shot of the Executor because it would screw the compsite

And the other executor shot looks much better as it is originally as viewed from the underside.

Now i had to wait so i could be back at  home so i could access the video clip of the emperor so i could answer some of the other criticisms from sevb32

Sevb32 said:

There is  too much interference and shaking in the holo.

I've tried to match it to the interference seen in the 2004 version and the shaking is the same because i had to track the original hologram to add the new elements or they wouldn't have matched but i haven't added any additional shaking

Sevb32 said:

Behind palpatine the background looks too static. There was a little light that were blinking in the dark rentagle in the wall.

The lights are still there. I checked the clip and they are clearly visible in both the front and side view shots

Sevb32 said:

Vader's close up after a while was reversed footage.

This was the only option i had because the footage was cut down for the 2004 version so to recreate this shot i couldn't avoid it, but it's the same footage i used for my 1080p AVCHD ESB 97 recreation and no one noticed this so i'm not bothered about it. There are quite a few shots in ESB that does have reversed footage added to extend the shot and those have always been there since 1980

Sevb32 said:

I like but i dont if its correct that the lines in the side view to be angled and even the holo animation lines follow that. i like the aggresive look still it might be an artistic choice.

yes, this is the correct way the scan lines should appear in the side shots. Just look at the 2004 footage and you will see they are exactly the same.

Sevb32 said:

The glow in the emperor's side view was too clean. was begging for some grain
The changes between the clean and the distorted signal are way too fast. if they could be slightly slowed down it would be ideal.

The glow during the side and front shots is exactly the same because the same preset that i created was used. Don't forget you are watching a low bitrate XVID so some of the grain and noise isn't visible due to compression.

no, it's the finished (well 95%) version. Apart from the audio of course.

Sevb32 said:

The audio is temp but still i judge what i saw. The lip sync was poor.

And i'm supposed to take this seriously? Did you not read what i wrote when i described the clip?

adywan said:

It will have the original 1980 emperor for its audio track not only because i won't get to doing the audio until the full audio track is finished, but so you can also see just how close it is now when synced to the original lines.

It isn't meant to sync up exactly as it isn't even Ian saying the lines.

Cardboard printing?
Time

Those type of cases aren't printed on directly. You first have a sheet of card then the printed sheet is laminated tot he cardboard, cut then pressed to create the scoring. Using the same method i mentioned above would work still give you the desired results as it's basically the same method the professional houses would use
