What do you LIKE about the Prequels?
Time

The Nerd said:

Well, I like the prequels, but to a certain extent. The music scores are awesome. People hate the prequels because how they were made.

But, if Episode I-III were made first, people would love them more. That means that people would dislike Episodes IV-VI if they were made later.

Are you kidding me? If Episode 1 had been made first then there would have been no 2,3,4,5 & 6. The franchise would have been dead and buried with that film.  That film relied on the fact that you would have watched the Original Trilogy first. Take out all the fancy effect work, do it with 70's tech and you would have even more of a snore fest. It has nothing to do with how they were made. They're just crap films, plain and simple.

Why do prequel fans always have to find all these lame excuses as to why other fans hate the prequels instead of the real reason that they're just crap films? It's the same shit every time;

"You don't like them because of how they were made"

"You don't like them because they were aimed at kids and you are too old"

"You don't like them because you hate CGi"

"You only like the Original Trilogy better because of nostalgia"

"You just like to bash George Lucas"

"If you don't like the prequels then you are not a TRUE fan"

Blah, blah, blah

so if i kill off Boba Fett , and that there would be no way he could possibly survive, yet he turns up in the ST then how do you explain that? you can't. I'm not prepared to tie myself down to anything that may appear in the new films. Sorry, but Revisited will only be able to be watched as a 6 films saga, unless by some miracle nothing conflicts with the new films.

The thing is, if i wait around to see everything that happens in the new films, i won't even be able to start planning the rest of the saga until 2015 at the earliest. That's hell of a long time to do nothing. I can't even work on ROTJ because there are a few things i want to change. Take the ending, for example. If i manage to pull off the new ending i am planning then what happens if the new film has evens that completely contradict what i have done? Do i scrap everything and have to stay with the original ending? What if i change Hayden's ghost back to Shaw, and he ends up popping up in the new ones as a ghost? What happens if there is something that i have to change in the prequels in order for a new subplot or something like that to work and then the original way is referenced in this new movie?

The Revisited edits were planned long before there was even mention of a new trilogy, so there is no way i am going to scrap everything or put the whole thing on hold until the whole new trilogy is complete, which is what i would have to do if i were to make it so there were no continuity problems between all 3 trilogies.

So the new films, along with the EU and any other Star Wars related stuff is going to have any influence on the 6 film Revisited Saga.

STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>
Time

I just posted this over on the facebook page:

Ok, now we've got April 1st out of the way i can now make an announcement about the future of the Revisited saga. I will no longer be working on ROTJ:R after i have finished ESB:R.........

Oh no, i will be working on ALL 5 REMAINING HD VERSIONS OF THE SAGA.

I know, it it probably the most insane thing i could ever attempt; TPM:R, AOTC:R, ROTS:R, ROTJ:R and ANH:R-HD all being done simultaneously. Why have i gone completely insane and decide to do this? Well its all to do with logistics. For the PT i really need to film extra scenes, new characters and this also goes for some extra stuff needed for ROTJ. If i can find people to fill these roles then wouldn't it be easier for me to get the filming done in one or a few big shoots instead of trying to get everyone back throughout the years of making these?

Also it would stop me getting bored with doing the same movie or grind to a halt because i'm stuck on a certain shot. While i'm planning ROTJ:R i can be doing the ground work on the PT, working out how i can accomplish all the things i want to do and even if these ideas can work.

I'll start off with a complete colour correction of all films, making the PT look closer to the OT in terms of colouring and a little less like they were shot on HD cameras, but more like 35mm film. These films need to match visually when watching 1-6. The PT are most likely going to be shorter films than they are now. Probably coming in at around 1hr 30mins.

So what do i have planned for the PT?......

C-3P0 will NOT be built by anakin or even work on the Lars farm. He won't even see Tatooine until Ep4. Instead he will be attached to Amidala/ Padme. After all he is a protocol droid. Why the hell would Anakin build a protocol droid for his Mum?

Anakin NEVER referred to as Vader and Vader will be the one storming the Jedi Temple, not Anakin ( and no youngling slaughter either). If things plan out how i envision then you won't know that Anakin and Vader are one and the same until ESB

Anakin's turn to the dark side will not have anything to do with the thought of Padme dying in childbirth. It will be switched back to the original storyline that George even started filming, that it will be a seduction of power.

NO BLOOODY MIDI-CHLORIANS.

And hopefully a certain Moff will make more of an appearance throughout the final prequel too....

And thats just a few things.

If i have to worry about what may or may not happen in the ST then , not only would i have to wait until all of the ST films are finished before i start the other 4 Revisited edits, but i may also be tied into events in the prequels that may be mentioned in the ST. So the Revisited saga can only be a 6 film saga and i have to ignore the new films when doing them

The Time Rotor is sometimes in the central column but most of the time it isn't so I don't mind the movement being elsewhere.

The time rotor (as it is referred to onscreen since 1983) has always been in the centre of the console since the first Doctor and has always moved up and down to signify flight. This will be the first time on Doctor Who history that the TARDIS time rotor doesn't do this action.

Anyone spot the author of Clara's book?

Yeh, spotted that and that chapter 11 will make him cry his eyes out.

One thing i don't like however is that in the new TARDIS console room design, the time rotor no longer moves. Its now just fixed light tubes and it's been changed to the spinning top.

... we only use Verbatim blanks, nothing else so please do not even ask, we want good burns with no CRC errors and we want the BD's to last! so only Verbatim blanks will be accepted, I am sure you guys want them to last and have no read errors as well right?

If that's the case, you might want to reconsider Verbatim. This from the Doom9 forum http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=149108&page=29 :

"I've started testing my oldest Smartblu discs. I've scanned a number of them from 16-19 months old. I thought you might appreciate hearing that they are holding their quality very well. LDC averages at that age still down in the 2-6 range. Better than most of my Verbatim burns straight after burning. Verbatims are showing a little higher rate of degradation, but still readable."

That thread's end pages have other bits of good, up-to-date information. Technology doesn't stand still (nor do the changing to lesser-quality 3rd party manufacturers, like with TDK).

Firstly, good to see you back D_J

Now you have to be careful when buying Verbatim. They're not all the same quality. If possible, use only ones manufactured in Singapore. The ones made in India are rubbish and just don't give such a high quality burn as the Singapore ones. Plus they degrade , but not as much as other makes.

Fingers crossed these will make their way to usenet because i can't wait to get my hands on these.

General Star Wars <strong>Random Thoughts</strong> Thread
Time

Luke and Leia were never brother and sister. The other that Yoda refers to IS Luke's twin sister but you were never going to find out who she was until the next trilogy. After ROTJ Luke was going to search for his lost sister. When George was writing the climax of the duel between Vader and Luke he couldn't figure out what vader could say to Luke that would make him go nuts. So he decided that it should be Vader threatening to turn his sister. But, as the sister hadn't been introduced, he turned Leia into the sister. So much for the BS that he had everything planned out since he first started writing Star Wars.

It looks like i may have to alter the credits list for ESB:R. Looking at just how many names there are on  the list it's now become obvious that including all the names is going to be impossible to fit in with the length of the credits, even with the extended track. I did notice that there are a lot of names on that list that just came in the thread and disappeared. Plus, since the facebook page was set up, there have been a lot over there that have also contributed with ideas and help so it would be unfair to omit any of them. So i have no alternative but to shorted the list of names. I will therefore have to shorten the list significantly and now just include a general thank you to everyone.

Sorry, but this is unavoidable. This thing grew much bigger than i ever could have imagined

A New direction for Lucasfilm Animation
Time

Well, it's official, the Clone Wars is cancelled, Detours is postponed (shame that isn't cancelled) and a new series set in a time period not yet explored (could this be between episodes 3&4?).

http://starwars.com/news/a-new-direction-for-lucasfilm-animation.html

I have to say that i'm gutted about the Clone Wars. That show felt more like the Star Wars i love than the prequels ever did

I did feel there was one place that went a little too far, which was the snowspeeder count. In the clip we see, at least, there's a very clear count of four speeders (save for the "Echo Station Fox Seven" shot), and it further emphasizes the impressiveness of the fight by showing how under-equipped and inventive the Rebellion is. With the additional speeders, whom we do not see during that fight, some of that impressiveness is lost for the sake of one shot. If there are more speeders for the sake of continuity that I'm unaware of, I'm not sure it would really be that many.

There are a lot more than just 4 snowspeeders shown throughout the battle in the official version.

The first shot we see ("Echo station 5-7, we're on our way.) , we see 5 snowspeeders flying alongside Luke, then it cuts to the shot of only 4 speeders, then cuts to 9 speeders flying overhead of the troops in the trenches. Then, when Luke first reaches the walkers we see 3 speeders, with one going to the opposite side of the AT-At then cuts to 4 speeders flying past the walker. So it shows that they have split into groups and in that shot alone there were at least 5 on screen. But if there was only supposed to be 4 speeders throughout the whole battle then there must be killed pilots/ speeders coming back to life:-

First one killed is just before Dak gets killed. We see a speeder shot down behind Luke in the cockpit shot when Luke says "Just hang on. Hang on Dak", so that would leave 3; Luke, Wedge and Red 2, but we know that there is another pilot left at least - Hobbie. Later on , just after R2 is loaded into Luke's X-Wing, we see a speeder going down with heavy smoke trailing it behind the walkers. But we know that all the pilots i mentioned are still alive after this scene, so that means more speeders.

I've played about with the binocular shot. Here is the revised version. Make sure you watch the 720p version though because youtubes compression on the SD version is pretty crappy

EDIT: It still looks pretty crappy in HD. Here is a download link for the 720p mkv of this shot:

The new binocular shot was first rendered with CG walkers, then transferred to video tape and then shot using a video camera filming the video being played on a small CRT TV with the tracking/ signal being messed with. The original was also recorded using a camera filming off a crt monitor.

There is something about the original that always made the walkers look like small toys, probably because this shot didn't use stop motion walkers, but mechanical ones instead. You can tell by the fluidity of the motion, which is also why the center one rocks so much, which is something the stop motion versions don't do.

The camera motion was matched to the original, which has no camera wobble and is pretty fluid. And there is a lot of motion blur used on the new version. The Walkers formation was positioned to match the next time we see the walkers coming over the ridge; center one in front, next two in alignment slightly further back and the rear two are also in alignment with each other.

The opening shot of the walkers seen in the far distance, all of the walkers are moving, whereas the original was just some static shapes. It's Vimeo's compression that has screwed around thanks to the compression artifacts. But you can see on the vimeo video ( just the revisited scene and not the comparison one) if you look closely you can see the AT-ST's moving

It all started when i announced that i was removing the original 2 shots of the AT-ST for continuity reasons, or something like that, and that there wouldn't be any AT-ST's in ESB:R. But all along i had already added  more and had  replaced the 2 original with the new CG versions.

Now here is the comparison video for the latest clip:

Sojourn, that mask feathering is there on the original. As i haven't changed the background on that shot there isn't anything i can do about that without replacing the whole background and i didn't really want to remove the original model work in that shot

Yes, the AT-ST's were the surprise. They have been there all along but i wanted to keep them secret until the film was released, but decided that now is the time. It's been a tough secret to keep

Rule #1 - Adywan lies ;) (Doctor Who fans will get that one)
