You could try opening the image file in DVDShrink and rebuild the .iso. I've found that this has fixed problems for me in the past. It also could be a media problem, but usually even cheap media will play ok in a PC. Try burning at a slower speed & see if that helps

Here's something: Following Vader's and Tarkin's conversation about the homing beacon in which Vader states, "They've just made the jump into hyperspace," we then cut to Han and the Princess' conversation in the Falcon's cockpit. Forward shots in this sequence reveal normal space and not the mottled blue of hyperspace. How difficult would it be to replace the starfield plate with a hyperspace background plate? Would this even work?

It would be quite a bit of work and i would need a clean effect plate of hyperspace. Probably too much work. i may be able to do a quick effects shot of the falcon exiting hyperspace that would possibly work and be a lot easier to do

Does anyone know what font is used for the end credits? I'm planning on completely redoing the end credits and adding Darth Editous' name, and anyone elses name that has contributed to this project, in with the credits.

keep the suggestions for fixes coming and thanks to all for your input.

I won't be removing the contact flashes as i think that it would look odd without them as they have always been part of the lightsaber duels. But i'm not overkeen on the green flashes in Ep IV and prefer the ones in the PT so I may redo them to better fit in with the PT ones.

It was only a quick test encode and some frames were unfinished. But the part you mention originally had a white light bleed from the reflective material that the sabers were covered in and this had never been fixed and should have been red to match the glow of the saber. The contact flashes have been untouched so they are exactly as they appear on the dvd

Not sure why thats happening. Just use DVDShrink to create an .ISO image file of the dvd then burn the image with either Nero or DVDDecrypter. If the discs aren't being recognised by your drive then you might need to get a firmware update to be able to use them. What DVD-RW drive are you using?

Don't worry, this was just a quick encode and it has turned out a bit darker than it should be. I posted a pic of the new clock a bit further up this page so you can see how light it should be.

I used a bit of artistic license with the background in Luke’s cockpit. Having it fly straight up just flowed better with the next shot of the X-wings rising as they fly away from Yavin IV. I originally tried it with it flying out horizontally with the temple in the background, but it just didn't look right and didn't seem to flow with the previous and next shots.

Sorry, I thought I had replied to your PM a few weeks back. I think its a brilliant idea and it does look much better than the red but, after trying on short scene, the results weren't too good. There is a lot of red colour bleeding especially on 3PO that caused a lot of problems, so I’m afraid I won't be changing that.

I've just uploaded a short sequence featuring some of the new effects shots including:

01. new lightsabers.
02. The Falcon being persued by the stardestroyer after Han says "besides i know a few manoeuvres, we'll lose them" . What manoeuvres? The falcon in the next shot is just flying straight. I always hated this shot so i've inserted a new effects sequence.
03. after the rebel briefing it cuts to a shot of the Death Star approaching Yavin that didn't match the other Yavin shots. new effects sequence added.
04. Same scene. New Death star view screen display, plus the next shot of Vader & Tarkin has been colour corrected to remove the blue glow
05. Just after the wipe from this scene Han can be seen in front of the Y-wing but you can tell that only half the set piece was built. I've added the wing in the background to correct this.
06. As Luke rises in his X-wing from the Yavin IV hanger you can now see, from his rear window, that it rises out of the temple. It now seems to flow better with the next shot of the ships leaving yavin IV.

I have only added a basic audio track so some scenes will not sync up to the effects, and i've only colour corrected the shot of vader ,but its just to give you a taster.

I'm testing out a different way of doing the sabers and it looks way better, so i guess something good has come out of it.

I've just had a major setback with this release. One of my hard drives just died on me and i've lost about 95% of what i have already completed between the begining of the falcon saber training (with only 3 shots being on a seperate hard drive) right up til the first scenes of the Death Star battle. so I'm back to square one. Bloody typical because i was saving the last completed shot of the Vader/ Ben fight which took me 3 weeks to do. i guess these things happen. So I'm afraid that its going to take longer for me to finish now.

I would like to say thanks to everyone for their input and ideas and please keep them coming please.

The lightsabers in the trailer were only prototype effects shots and will have a stronger core & more natural glow in the finished version. The flicker is definately still there though.

Quick question: Do you anticipate that this will require a Dual Layer DVD-R?

It may well have to be a dual layer but i'm going to do a 9 pass CCE single layer encode first to see how if i can stick to single layer without sacrificing quality.

Originally posted by: INv8r_ZIM
Adywan, do you think you'd mind sharing your approach to recreating the laser bolts? I've got a technique that's close that I'm using on my project, but I think you're a little closer. Would love to hear what your approach is regardless!

Ok, here goes....

Export the section you want to edit from Adobe Premier and save as a filmstrip. Try to keep it to about 50 frames at most because it uses hell of a lot of memory and will slow your pc down. Import into Photoshop.
Add a layer and using the polygon lasso tool draw round the original laser or if you are creating your own just draw the shape you want. Using the paint bucket tool fill the selection with the desired colour for the core. once you have created all the cores for your lasers add a small blur using guassian blurr (2.5 is pretty good but you will have to descrease for smaller lasers. just try a few setting to see what looks best.

Once this is done duplicate the core layer and then again using the paint bucket tool fill the cores of the duplicate layer. This now gives you a thicker line. this layer shoul be placed below the inner core. now you have finished filling the new layer add another guassian blur of about 7.5 (again this setting needs to be changed for the different sizes. Just use the preview feature to get your desired results. Your outer core layer needs to be dropped by about 20% in capacity then merge the 2 new layers together. Then just play about with that layers capacity until you get the look that you want. Once you have finished that then flatten the image and click save.

Hope this helps

I missed that shot Erikstormtrooper. Consider it fixed.

A couple of more fixes i have just completed:

R2's decals are now blue when in space and no longer black
I've just redone the Death Star clock and is now a different version than the one that i was originally going to use by Darth Editous.
When the clock finished its countdown the display screen switches to a schematic of Yavin IV and the display is blue and full screen but then it switches to a shot of Tarking standing in front of the screen and the bacground is green and the schematic is much smaller. I've redone this shot so both shots match.
Fixed bad blue screen "glows". there were a lot during the death Star battle.

there isn't a full list as yet because i'm finding minor things all the time but here's whats been fixed / changed so far (well as much as i can remember at the moments anyway):

All laser blasts repainted.
Lightsabers repainted.
"Pink" blast flashes are now white.
R2-D2 jump cuts aboard the Tantive V smoothed or fixed.
Changed the line "there'll be no escape for the princess this time" to just "there'll be no escape this time" because when luke sees the hologram 3P0 doesn't know who she is.
A close up shot of a Rebel trooper being hit had a laser coming out of scope part of the gun by mistake. I've painted out the blast and added a blast that hits him because originally he dies without being hit.
While 3P0 is looking for R2 a rebel trooper falls as if he's been hit but no lasers & 3P0 turns as if reacting to something. Added a background flash and a few lasers as the troops retreat and 3P0's reaction looks better.
When R2 arm opens the pod door it dissappears in the next shot. The arm can now be seen to retract.
Fixed 3P0's blinking eyes in the sandcrawler.
Slightly reedited the scene where the Jawas sell the droids to fix the continuity error of the reappearing red R2 unit behind R2-D2.
Filtered Beru's voice while sitting at the table to give it a more natural feel instead of the overdubbed studio feel and slightly resynced the line "he has to much of his father in him to omit the pause before "father" and give it better lip sync.
Smoothed out a jump cut when luke ignites his saber at Ben's home and the saber can now be seen to ignite
When Tarkin enters and explains that the Emperor has disolved the council the bottom right officer can clearly be seen mouthing a line. I've added a line from the Radio play that syncs his mouth movements.
Batboy's eyes are no longer transparent in the Cantina.
Han shoots first.
Fixed a continuity error in the Jabba scene where Chewie can be seen clearly behind Han by the Falcon but cuts away to a shot of Chewie walking from the entrance and next shot he is back behind Han.
Radar dish on the falcon in docking bay 94 added (many thanks to Darth Editous)
As the falcon escapes Tatooine a few explosions can be seen through the cockpit window but nothing creates them. I've added a few lasers to fix this.
The shot of Tarkin standing in front of a poorly projected static viewscreen on the Death Star as it approaches Alderaan has been altered so that the viewscreen now has a motion picture than matches the rest of the sequence.
The conversation between Tarkin & Leia has been equalised so there isn't a noticable audio difference between shots.
Fixed a jump cut when Luke turns off his saber aboard the falcon and you can see the blade retract.
Smoothed the jump cut when Luke ignites his saber while wearing the helmet with a morph.
Before Tarkin says the line "terminate her immediately" Vader can be seen gesturing where a line had been cut. He no longer gestures.
When the TIE flys over the falcon after it it has left hyperspace you can see a couple of blasts through the falcons cockpit window but again nothing creates them. Added lasers to fix this.
Enhanced the glow of the Death Star docking bay widow which eliminates the gap in the glow at the bottom.
Fixed an Imperial's shirt colour continuity error while Han, Luke & Chewie wait for the lift.
The tractor beam matte painting has been fixed
Fixed some frames where Ben & Vader's sabers swap colours.
When the falcon is seen leaving the Death star docking bay it always seems to be going to slow as it blasts away. The Falcon now retreats faster.
Matt boxes around TIEs have been fixed
Changed the camera shake when Luke and Han are in the gun turrets by adding motion blur and a created a less linear shake.
reframed a shot of a Tie figher approaching the camera where about 1/5th of the right side of the frame was missing.
Darth Editous' new Death Star schematic has been inserted so the weapon bowl is now in the correct place ( more thanks)
When Red Leader crashes into the Death Star you can now see his X-wing crashing instead of just an explosion.
When the Ties first approach they now begin to fire.
The shot of the Imperials firing the turret guns , even though the lasers are green, the room is lit with blue flashes. I've recoloured this so that the room is now lit with green flashes.
The Death Star clock now displays the correct countdown ( thanks again to Darth Editous)
Slightly recoloured some of the ship explosions to eliminate the pink tint.
Whe R2 is hit it cuts to a shot of Luke in the cockpit but R2 looks fine. You now see the smoke coming from R2 out of the rear cockpit window.
A couple of shots prior to the Death Star exploding have been rearranged or added . this is due to the fact that the Death Star now can be seen to begin to fire just as it explodes.
I've eliminated the horrible blue glow around the explosion of the Death Star.
As Vader straightens up and flies into the distance I've added the Superstardestroyer in the background.

The audio track had been redone using the original 5.1 DVD soundtrack with its reversed rear music channels fixed and new effect elements added to enhance the surround experience and the sub channel has been lowered slighly because it was just way too loud for.
A few new music cues most notably Darth Vaders theme has been added.
The surround channels during a lot of the film has music only and no ambient sounds yet other scenes it has. I've added ambient sounds for the missing parts, most notably the Cantina sequence now sounds fuller.
Slight gaps during scene changes in the music and audio has been fixed

There is more but i just can't think of any off hand at the moment but it'll give you an idea

Originally posted by: Erikstormtrooper

Any plans on removing the rear window from Vader's TIE cockpit? It's obvious they used the same set for his cockpit as the regular TIEs. Regular TIE's have a rear window, whereas Vader's TIE model does not. I'm not positive, but I think this may only be an issue right before Vader spins out of control in the trench.

I had a look at this and you cannot see anything through the window so it could easily be explained away as part of the cockpit design so i won't be changing this.

I prefer the plain white flashes as i remeber them before the 2004 DVDs. White flashes just seems to look more natural than pink.

I just notices that when Tarkin explains that the Emperor has disolved the senate that one of the officers at the bottom left mouths some dialogue so i have added a line taken from the radio play that matches his mouth movement.

Adywan,

This looks very interesting. You've obviously put a lot of work into this.

The laser bolts you painted in sometimes look a little too intense. The greens seemed a little too green and the reds a little too red. Maybe they need more of a white core? But it's possible you've done them exactly right and my eyes are just so used to seeing them look different.

The lasers, especially in the Death Star battle, were pretty badly composited. Sometimes the TIE & turret lasers were bright green with a yellow core then some weren't coloured and some even had a blue outer glow. I took the most coloured shots as reference for the re-colouring. The shot just after Luke says "This is Red 5. I'm going in" shows The intensity of the X-wing lasers. The shots below have been untouched to help explain it better:

It was his watching excellent version that gave me the final kick to do my own version. the only reasons i didn't use his version for this project was because i am in a PAL area and his was NTSC and adding the extra bits that i would be doing would mean another encode and the quality wouldn't be as good as the original.
