STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

well the commentary idea has been thrown out. I've just added an extra track with a bitrate that would be used for dolby 2.0 and it pushes it over the 100% capacity mark. I don't want to have to lower the quality of the extras just to have an extra audio track so there won't be one i'm afraid. Plus i have to fit the covers in the DVD-ROM folder yet too.

doubleofive, that's an interesting idea. The thing is that i set myself a few ground rules when starting the Revisited project. The Rebel ships look battered and old and the rebellion probably wouldn't have the resources to upgrade all the ships. So i decided that The ship displays would not get a revamp, just fix a few issues with colouring etc. I will be fixing the movement issue with the display, and probably replace the lettering but i won't be adding anything else. This is what, for me, separates the PT & the OT. In the PT everything looks new and hi-tech but in the OT everything had an old & used feel about it. Even in ROTS the ship displays started to have a mor3e retro feel about them (Jedi Starfighters) so i want to keep this feel.

On to the Mynocks. There are a few shots i want to try an enhance. They really do look like they're on strings and puppet-like. Not sure how I'm going to do this yet but it is something that has always bugged me, along with the polythene you can clearly see on the floor. The slug i have always liked. i may do a few tweaks to this but certainly won't have it pursue them through space. This slug hides out in an asteroid waiting for its prey. If it could chase things through space then it wouldn't have the need to lie in wait like that.

Will you be using a different font for the DVD9 menus? The text on the DVD5 looked rather... cheap imho.

Oh, and will there be Dutch subtitles on the DVD9? The first nfo of the DVD5 mentioned them, but they weren't on the final version. I know it has been translated by 8t88, so I was wondering.

No, the font will be the same. Not sure what you mean by "cheap" looking. They display fine on my DVD player and look as good as retail DVDs i have. There won't be any extra sub tracks either. There were a few problems with the Ext5ra subs that i just couldn't fix so i had to leave them off.

I am toying with the idea of a commentary track now though.

So am I correct in saying there were no more video changes since DVD-5? Or did you put the blast mark when Luke first blasted the controls that close the door/extend the bridge. Or erase the blast mark that was already there when the Stormtroopers fired on the back of that same door as Luke and Leia closed it.

No i haven't done anything to those shots. if you notice that the panel is a completely different one where you see the blast mark anyway because the light holes have disappeared and the mark on the door is a putty mark that contains the squib. I don't want to do any more things to the video. I just want the DVD-9's finished and i can then finally put this thing behind me. I did change one thing though. In the scene with 3po in the control room, originally i added an extra gun to match the shot where the troopers blast in. I decided to give this another go and i managed to remove the gun from the later scene better than i attempted to do originally. but that is the final ever change (oh apart from a small tweak to the 3po saturation change that was recently mentioned in the desert that i finally managed to fix). This edit is done.

I have been toying with having an alternate mix that wouldn't have the battle of the heroes music, the music during the conference scene, Beru's monomix voice & a couple of other things changed for those who hated the additions. But this is still only an idea and possibly won't happen and it would only be stereo too.

EDIT: after checking out the duel without music it isn't going to happen. it's just doesn't have the same impact without the music.

Oh and Sevb32, please change your avatrar. I don't appreciate that you have stolen mine. The new forum software has taken away the need for any duplicate avatars now.

Just a quick update. I've fixed all the errors in the trivia sub track ( thanks ron2112). I've also just completed the New audio track. I'm 95% happy with this mix now. I've been messing about with Vader's voice and i have added a few minor FX, mainly modulation, and he sounds so much better now. It is a very subtle yet noticable difference, closer to how he sounds in the rest of the OT now. Here's a sample:
VADERS NEW VOICE

Just building the menus for the DVD-9 and then the DVD will almost be complete.

Ok, so i downloaded it of utorrent, & ididn't pay for it, so no need to kick anyone in the nuts lol.

since a few people were mentioning a few things that needed fixing, your new shot of Luke & Liea swinging across the canyon, where you said you used a new matt, to make it look bigger, it works but if you look at where the actual ledge, where they were standing is, is much lower than where they look. They look like they swung from the top of the doorway.

still a great movie, & the Death Star Battle is sublime!

all i did to that shot was extend the sides & bottom of that shot, the whole middle section of the video is exactly the same as in the original version. They swing from exactly the same place as they have done in every other version. When they filmed this scene its clear that they don't swing from the same doorway that they were in every other shot anyway. They swing across to the same ledge that the stormtroopers were firing from to make it look like they were higher. Not much i could do about that though.

Thanks for the offer Ron. I'll get the subfile to you ASAP.

The DVD-9 will be about a couple of weeks away. I have about all the features i can pack onto it now so all that's left to do is the authoring & fix a few issues and finish the official cover then the PAL is good to go followed by the NTSC not long after

Speaking of the viewscreens...

Adywan, I remember you said you might include my Galactic Basic font in some of your viewscreen graphics. I kept an eye out for it while watching the movie several times, but I never saw it. Did you end up using it at all? Do I need to look more closely?

I did use it somewhere but i cant remember for the life of me where now. sorry

Ady, can you tell what subtitles will be included on the DVD 9?

Same as on the DVD-5

Ady, I noticed a few typos in the "changes" subtitle track; I know some of them have been pointed out already by others. Part of my job involves proofreading, so I'm quite good at catching and correcting these types of errors. If you'd be interested, I'd be happy to give your subtitle file(s) a thorough going-over. Just an offer, PM me if you're interested.

Ron Moses

Can you give me an example? I ran the whole subtitle track through the spellchecker and it reported no errors

I was watching TROOPS last night and thought the presence of TIE's in atmosphere (or near ground level, anyway) looked strange. Without this becoming a nerdy debate on the capabilities of such a craft, can anyone remind me if there are any parts of the films in which we see a TIE *not* in space?

Yes, in ESB. Just as they are rescuing Luke from the weather vane

Ady,

I can only speak for myself, but I think it would be best if you don't "squeeze" too much more on to the DVD-9 so the bitrate for video does not suffer. You've got more than enough extras to satisfy everyone already and personally I'm just looking forward to the highest quality video that will provided by the DVD-9. Can't wait to see it, man.

The video bitrate is already set to the highest possible. It's set to 7000kbps average 8000kbps max. If i push it any higher then some players will have issues with the video due to DVD bitrate limitations. The main video has already been rendered so all i am doing is filling the extra space with what i can.

JangoJason, thanks for passing a copy of my edit to Peter Mayhew. It's kinda strange to think that one of the cast may have seen my version.

Well the DVD-9 is ticking along slowly. I have a few of the extras done but i've run out of ideas. I was going to do a mini " making of" that would feature both the making of the original film and this edit. but doing the commentary myself would just make me cringe, so that ideas been dropped.

Here's what is on the disc so far:

All extra features available on the DVD-5 plus.....

Isolated score track
StarBalls
Multi angle SP-FX breakdown featurette- Tie chases Biggs
Extended "Alderaan Destruction" scene.

I'm not sure how much more could actually be squeezed onto the disc until these ones are finished

Well there have been some really interesting ideas floating around so i think its about time i answered some of these.

I will definitely be doing ESB first. After the monster that ANHR became it will be nice to tackle something that won't take as much work. I really do feel that ESB is almost perfect and most of the things done will be cosmetic. ROTJ on the other hand is going to be hell. As it stands now i think that it's going to need a lot more work done than even ANHR. I'm actually really itching to get my hands on the PT. I have so many ideas worked out already but i just wish that they would release a better transfer of TPM & with the CG Yoda. I hate that puppet.

I probably won't be adding any scenes into this one. I was toying with the idea of adding the "General Veers Death" scene but I may just do it to keep it for a deleted scene extra.

Editing wise it will be closer to the Original Theatrical version that the SE. Quite a few SE elements will be going. eg. The Wampa will be once again a more mysterious creature. All SE shots that we see the Wampa clearly will be going.

Vader's "bring my shuttle" line will return so most, if not all, of the shuttle additions will be gone.

Some of the new windows may be replaced with the original walls or reduced. I loved the claustrophobic feel that their escape had originally. I won't be removing them all but a few. I want to keep a couple of the windows so you can see TIE's shooting down some escaping craft (just an idea at the moment and may not happen)

No added planets to either the Imperial fleet reveal or the finale will happen but i may be adding in a few familiar ships into the rebel fleet in the finale.

i do want to do something with the mynocks but what the hell i can do about them i'm not sure as yet.

i may add a few more background TIE's to the asteroid chase, but not many, if any at all.

Most of the FX will just be cleaned up and not replaced like in ANHR. I don't think ESB needs it for the most part.

Highly doubtful that any music will be added to this one apart from the end credits to remove the bad SE looping.

At the moment it's looking like a September start date for this project and will take at least a year to finish.

Sorry if this has been covered already, but has there been an explanation of exactly how the "de-special"' shots were done? (especially the one in Mos Eisley where the dinosaur was removed and replaced with the original white droid) I'd love to know how
to do that. Thanks.

This was one shot that was going to be covered in the special features on the DVD-9 but some of the files used in its creation were lost after one of the hard drive failures so, although i still have the after effect project file, i no longer have the video files used and would now take too long to recreate the whole process.

So, anyone have any great disc art to go along with this fantastic film and the very cool cover art that's already available? I'm making copies for friends and would love to include some great art for the disc, but my graphic skills are crap to say it nicely... :)

First off, love the hand. Definitely the best choice.

Secondly, no one else has mentioned it yet, so it might just be me...but I have a problem with the sound going totally out of sync on my NTSC copy (first release) of the DVD. I am playing the iso file using xbox media center (VLC media player), and at around 53 minutes (Falcon blasts out of Mos Eisley) to around 58 minutes (bye bye Alderaan), the sound lags noticeably.

Any input, Adywan? Is this an isolated case?

well someone mentioned it about the XVID but that seemed more like a media player problem as no one else seemed to have this problem. So far there have been no reports of this happening with the DVD. I just popped in the NTSC DVD and the sync seems fine throughout. Have you tried burning the DVD?

You must be new in these parts. There was a long and heated debate over this issue about a dozen pages back.

It is actually Adywan's cameo. He gave an arm and a leg to the project, although I have yet to find the leg.

The leg will appear in the Special Edition that will come out in 20 years time ...
