Hey Ady, could this be a useful tool?

http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/aftereffects/?configListID=0&chapterID=1&shared=true

J

If that tool works as well as it does in the demo video (and in my experience  tools never seem to work the same as  demo videos) then that will be an invaluable tool.  I was about to downgrade from Windows7 x64 back down to XP64 because i'm so fed up with all the administration rights, programs i use being a pain in the ass  and the "what you hear" recording feature now no longer working in win7 even with all the suggested fixes tried,  but now i've seen that CS5 will only be available for Vista x64 & Windows7 x64. :(

I'll be mailing the discs to Adywan in a couple of hours.

Hold off on that, I may have a solution.

EDIT: What the crap!? After recovering the project file on this comp, it looks like AOTC is in 25fps, but then the file on my computer says 23.976fps. Now I'm really confused...

Well Ripplin is sending me some other discs too and i think he has already sent them out to me.

OK, something is really confusing me now. You said that your Canadian DVD of AOTC was to blame yet you now say that it is in 25fps, yet Canadian releases are NTSC. But you also say that the file on your comp says 23.976? So where do you get the 25fps from?

I DO have the original project file on the harddrive, but it won't load the project properly.

I mean I redirected everything but that AVI issue was never resolved on this new computer so now none of the rips work. The only thing I could work with would be the MPEG video track which would be the same as the DVD video track that Ady will be using. The difference being that I don't know how to resolve the issue but ady might be able to.

Are you working with a Sony Vegas project file? If so i have the answer that will save you a LOT of work and you won't have to work from an already recompressed MPEG file

Hey Ady..do you use the soundboards on the official site?

He's mentioned that he does pull sounds from there wherever possible, mostly for FX, not so much for dialogue, I imagine.

How does he extract the sounds for use in his edit? I've tried a couple of programs and the sound files don't show up in them. Or does he simple record with a program like Audacity?

they are in your temporary internet files

I meant extracting the neat MP3s from the swf files rather than recording them with a sound program like Audacity.

you dont have to extract any MP3's the MP3's are in your temporary internet files AS MP3's

Are you sure? I have played most of the audio clips on the soundboard and there are no mp3 files in my temp internet folder. And after doing an extensive search, there are no mp3's on my C drive at all.

Okay Ady, I gonna do the dick move here.

I am gonna be bit demanding.

Its April 2010 and I am going insane waiting for this.

Probably just out and out piss my pants in shock for just the trailer of Return of the Jedi Revisited trailer.

But I gonna ask what we are all thinking.

If you could put a percentage on how much is done I think we deserve it.

If it is less the 50% I will probably go on tower with a rifle or just do what the Plinkett Reviews guy does with the hookers in the crawl space.

God, you think you're going insane sitting there doing absolutely nothing apart from waiting for the edit? Try working on this thing for over 2 years & then you'll realise what feeling like you're going insane actually means. All i'll say is that there is at least 6 months worth of work left to do.

IF, very detailed post once again ;)

There are many flipped shots that i won't be re-flipping because it throws the scene out. The SE shot i won't be flipping because it would stand out too much as being the same set used later. The Chewie shot where he is firing at the troopers can't be flipped either along with the stormtroopers firing because of directional issues. The shot of Luke falling will not be flipped fully. I will hopefully  be flipping Luke in the 2 shots as he is falling

As for the wall issue its actually an optical illusion. The curved part of the wall sticks out quite a bit and when viewed from a different angle it makes it look like the corner of the wall is thinner, when it is in fact the same set.  Just look at the squib marks. they are exactly the same. Plus you can see just how far this section sticks out in other shots from behind chewie and when the squib explodes in the close up shot you can see that its slightly hidden due to the curvature of this section.  No need for a fix here.

Now here's a quick little fix i've just finished (please don't cross post this to anyone elses youtube account)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEUEISUj9M4

Not sure how I feel about this one... I know Wedge is supposed to be Rogue 3 and all, but maybe it's the change in pitch in Luke's voice that makes it sound a little odd.  Is there any way to alter the pitch to Mark Hamill's voice to sound similar to his original line (with the slightly higher and more urgent pitch)?

Its more likely that you have been use to hearing that line delivered in a higher pitch for so many years. I won't raise the pitch of any dialogue as this starts to sound unnatural, and when doing the PAL version he would start sounding like a chipmunk.

I remember (when reading through this 600+ pages thread), that there was a discussion about if Ady was gonna have both a PAL and NTSC version of ESB:R and if there was gonna be a purist edition like he did for ANH:R. And he said that (at the time) he was simply going to release a 720p AVCHD version of ESB:R.

That's why I thought there wasn't going to be a DVD version.

No, i said there would be no purist version of ESB:R. I stated that there would be a AVCHD 720p DL-DVD, a NTSC & PAL DVD-9 & 5 and there will be a bonus disc on DVD-5 with all the extras. The DVD-9's will have the extra audio tracks if i can get hold of them and the AVCHD will have the option (& the tools to do it)  to mux the language of your choice if you don't want the default English 5.1 track

Woww, adywan, that would be great!I've done a 2.0 dub for revisited, and later I redo it 5.1. But sadly I couldn't keep the menus. I digged up tutorials from originaltrilogy and it was good to be see the revisited version in my language.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7tmZNvpr1U

Here is sample from the dub, and you can see, more than 2000 people was seen it, so if you put some manual, how to do it without loosing the menus and the extras, I would be happy.

here are the tools and instructions i posted on how to replace the main audio track for my TPM theatrical edit. It's basically the same method to replace the audio for any DVD and you can keep all the menus and extras

Ady, you spelled Rogue wrong in the youtube clip. I weep on the inside... =(

Where? Just checked the video and i can't see it. If you mean the title of the vid then it hasn't changed it to the correct title yet and still has the clip name instead of the correct title. I'm still waiting for the correct thumbnail to display too. God Youtube's gone downhill

Jaitea said:

How did you pull that off Ady?, did you find other snowspeeder footage along the timeline of MH mouthing something resembling 'Three'?

Very good work man!!

J

yep, you are correct. i took a shot of Luke earlier in the battle and changed the background and the audio is taken from the ESB Radio Dramatisation. The mouth movements synced up perfectly even though he only says "Rogue 3" in the clip i used, his mouth seemed to move before he spoke, so it worked. :)

EyeShotFirst said:

Though one thing I must ask. Will you do something about Wedge saying Hoooowahhh that got him? It just sounded fake.

Probably not as there is nothing to replace it. I might have a go when i get to the sudio stage, but for now i will be leaving it as it is.

Okay, how did you pull off the new facial movements? It's brilliant, and during the first part of the video I was wondering if "three" would match the mouth movements for "two." And then the mouth movements were completely different. o_o Explain please, good sir.

he didnt call wedge rogue 2.....he called the gunner rouge 2

You do realise that only the pilot has a call sign and not the gunner. And Rogue 2 is a totally different pilot anyway if you check the movie and you will see that's it's Zev that is Rogue 2. He is identified as Rogue 2 several times in the movie, so i'm sorry you are wrong

Lord Grievous said:

What about the annoying fact that the dubbed track never matches the character's lip movements? If that doesn't break immersion than I don't know what does. It's like watching that guy from Police Academy.

BTW, how much space does a DD 2.0 track take up? 150MB? If you have about seven of them that's over a GB of wasted space, not counting the 300+MB English 5.1 track. I mean, obviously it's your call, but maybe you could have just an English version and one mulitlangual version?

Anyway, nice fix there :)

wasted space in your eyes LG, but not in mine and not in peoples eyex that aren't native English speakers. The overall size of the video only track on ANH:R DVD-9 was approx 6.gb and no one complained about the quality of that so i see no problem using the extra space for audio.

If you don't like it, then you don't have to watch it. LOL ;)

When will people learn to stop dubbing movies, it's a disgrace and disrespectful to the original actors.

doubleofive said:

Adult-oriented movies, yes.  Children's movies for kids who can't read yet?  I think dubbing should be an option.

Lord Grievous said:

If they're not old enough to read the subtitles they're probably not old enough to follow the story of Star Wars. Just seeing the spaceships whiz by and seeing the lightsaber fights is enough for them.

If you don't want to watch the film as it was intended, don't watch it at all. You might as well watch it with your eyes closed or with the sound muted.

That's a very narrow minded attitude there Lord Grievous. When my kids weren't old enough to read they could follow the story perfectly. Even when they grew a little older subtitles wouldn't have appeared on screen long enough for them to follow it. And personally i hate having to read subtitles all the way through a movie. Why shouldn't people a movie dubbed into their own language?  You do know that there are also people with learning difficulties and other reasons why they can't read the subtitles don't you? Why should we discriminate against them just because you don't like movies being dubbed? Because ESB:R is very close to the original theatrical cut i want to be able to provide as many different audio language tracks as i possibly can. Unfortunately that may not be possibly for the other movies. And as the extra audio languages will only be AC3 2.0 and all the extras will be on a separate disc, there will be no problem with losing bitrate to accomodate them

Now here's a quick little fix i've just finished (please don't cross post this to anyone elses youtube account)

In ESB:R related news, there's something I was thinking about the other day that I thiiiiiiiiiiiink may have been addressed before, but too long ago for me to remember. Will the Falcon's belly cannon in the Hoth base escape scene be a bit smoother/less stop-motion looking?

yes, that was fixed a while ago :)

Man, I can't find the Facebook links. The one I went to doesn't seem to have any pics from the concert, and I don't know the others. I did a search here because someone (005?) listed them all a while back, but no dice. If someone could do that again, I'd be sure to bookmark them this time! ;)

My photo albums are set to private so you'd have to add me as a friend first. Just search for "ady adywan"

The concert was amazing. If anyone is in two minds about going or not then just go for it. I was a bit pissed off that we got a smaller exhibition than everywhere else. No helmets, no Boba Fett and a lot of other stuff was nowhere to be found. But i did notice that many of the props were not ones used in the movies and were quickly made castings. But it was still great to get pics of everything (just uploaded a load to my facebook page).  The concert itself was great. It was almost like listening to the soundtrack at times because the orchestra was that good. Now unfortunately the OT clips used are still the same as the 2004 colouring, but..... TPM looked amazing. It was a brilliant transfer. No more pink tint and the colours were so good and not oversaturated like most  of the other saga clips, although the colours in ANH did look much closer to the '97 transfer and not overly blue especially in the Death Star corridors. They weren't the oversaturated blue in the 2004 transfer but closer to grey colouring. Most noticeably in the conference room scenes where the walls were grey and the skin tones were perfect. New Yoda looked great and a lot better rendered than he does in AOTC. The transfer looked so clean and not the dirty transfer that we have been use to. But it didn't look like it had been scrubbed of all grain with DNR. If this is the transfer we get when it finally comes to Blu-Ray then i will be happy. The colours just looked so right.  It's such a pity they couldn't have spent the same amount of care with the OT
