Oh, absolutely. As I've said before, this has always kinda bugged me, but it's never stopped this from being my favorite film, and it won't now either. I'm not as hard up to have this removed as it may seem, and certainly not into changing this thing around in ways others have suggested. It was just  a quick suggestion that spawned a monster.

Don't mind me... I'll get me coat.

Trust me, this was just a tiny monster compared to some that suggestions have created in here. :)

It's very interesting to see how people can interpret the same movie in so many different ways or points of view. I think its great and that's why i don't think everything needs to be spelled out to the audience. The mind is a wonderful thing :)

This is why I suggested cutting the explosion scene completely. It just doesn't add up. And all of the explanations take waay to much thought for such a quick scene. Having the walker fall over and then cutting to the rebel troops charging the battlefield is, in my opinion, the best option.

This would make no sense whatsoever. This is the rebels first little victory. They begin to think they can actually win this battle and then WHAM... they get their asses kicked. Take out the explosion and the scene falls flat.

But knocking the walker over is just as big a vicotry as blowing it up.  It can no longer continue to advance and it can no longer fire it's weapons. That alone would be reason enough for the rebels to think they could pull off a win. I know you aren't gonna remove it and that's perfectly fine by me,   but to say it would "make no sense whatsoever" is... well, wrong.

But how is it as big a victory than fully destroying it? So its tripped up and the rebels just leave it alone so it can deploy all the surviving troops that could possibly cut the cables and the AT-AT could get back on it's feet and rejoin the battle (which surely the AT-AT would be capable of in it's design). And i was saying that your reasoning why the scene should be cut because "all of the explanations take waay too much thought for such a quick scene" didn't make much sense.  I've never had to over think that scene ever since i first saw it in 1980 when i was 13, nor did any of my mates and i haven't really seen anyone have a problem with this shot until this discussion started. . I've always seen it as the neck was damaged in the fall and they exploited the weak spot. Ending the scene with the walker falling is a bit of a damp squib compared to blowing the thing up. But don't forget, this is just a movie.

So I know that this has probably been mentioned before, but why is Ady taking away the red AT-AT windows?  I feel like they were meant to be red since they were depicted as such in the movie posters and paintings.

And, unlike the blue escape-pod door which was actually supposed to be blue in ANH, the red windows aren't very annoying.  They're actually kinda creepy.

It's because the red window only appears in one shot in the whole battle and only on the lead AT-AT. If the windows were meant to be red then why aren't they throughout the rest of the battle?

I think everyone is starting to over analyse the battle now. We don't need explanations for everything that happens on screen, we can leave that to the PT. Isn't part of the fun of watching these original movies that you can use your imagination to explain things however way you think is right? What is happening to cinema when everything has to be laid out clearly? Has the cinema going audiences become so dumb in the past 30 years? No. So why does Hollywood continually churn out dumb movies that nothing is left to the imagination? I can just see Ric Olie piloting one of the speeders :

Ric Olie said:

" Oh look, the AT-AT has fallen over. And it looks like it has snapped it's neck and caused a weak spot. Maybe we should concentrate our fire at that spot. "

After looking at the scene again there is no possible way that the troops could have got out of the Walker in time. Not only would there be injures and others would be disorientated, but there is just no time between the Walker crashing and the speeders blowing it up for anything like this to happen.

Well yes.. you can always extend the shot slightly like you did with the bespin gantry. You can even add that camera projection technique or adding more elements that showing the scale. Since the backgrounds is a mess( as you already know) some alterations can be done here and there. The only matter is the music. Falling troopers or some small lasers from the walker or from inside/open hatches by snowtroopers can stand up.I think monroville said something similar(?)

-Angel

I don't want to extend any shots of the Hoth battle. The editing is perfect as is the score so i have no intention of extending anything in the battle just for a cool FX shot. If i did it would need to serve a purpose and not interupt the flow of the music, which extending a shot here would fail on both accounts.

Arrived at the party late, so apologies if this has already been mentioned as a possibilty:

When the walker first collapses and the head hits the snow hard (perhaps an extra sound effect to reinforce the damage thats been done?) can you not instead show some energy 'sparks' around the entire head area (similar to force lightning) and this energy rapidly spreads to the main body which goes up with the aid of the snowspeeders firing upon it?

You're sort of close to what i have done to that shot , but i won't be saying what i have done until the film is released

It always bugged me that "T-47s" got retconned into meaning the Speeders.  Why the hell would a medical droid worry about Speeders? In the original movie, the line is clearly meant to refer to some kind of MEDICAL devices:

2-1B: Sir, it will take quite a while to evacuate the T-47s.

Luke: Forget the heavy equipment..."

So we're supposed to assume that 2-1B is now evacuating snowspeeders?  It's idiotic.

And this is why i chose to ignore the EU. 2-1B is clearly not talking about snowspeeders. Since when have vehicles been referred to as "heavy equipment"?

johnnythewolf said:

I suppose it has already been discussed some 400+ pages ago, but how about just adding some AA-ATs escorting the AT-ATs?

johnnythewolf said:

Ooops! I meant "AT-AA"...

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/AT-AA

no, there will be no EU vehicles in this edit. Like i have said before the EU doesn't exist to me. There was talk about adding more AT-ST's to the battle but this isn't going to happen. I have yet to see any CG home brew elements that can actually look realistic enough to match the studio AT-AT models on film(Which the AT-ST's would have to be CG unless studio scale stop-motion models were to be built and filmed, which is never going to happen). I've taken out the AT-ST's from the battle and i'm going to be leaving their first appearance for ROTJ

Missing Scene?
Time

Yes, that scene was rumoured to have been missing in some early showings of Star Wars in 1977. From IMDB:

There are at least two different prints of the original Star Wars in circulation. One definite difference between them is that the brief scene in the Death Star corridor where Chewbacca roars and "frightens" a little messenger droid is missing. This scene was NOT in the "opening day" version.

Yeah, I've been stuck on 25% of this for awhile, and there are no seeders anywhere.  :(  I'd love it if it had a Jdownloader link.

Thanks!

The file on tehparadox is a dlc file. once you have download this then load it up into jdownloader and this dlc file contains all the links you'll need. Once its loaded just click on "continue with all" and it will begin the download

On a somewhat related note, I have the OT "Entertainment Utility" that LFL released back in 1995 with all the cool sounds, phrases and video clips.  The sounds are WAV and the clips are AVI.

If it is needed, please let me know and I'll set up a torrent.  Be advised that since it is from 1995, it is most likely that you will not be able to install it.  However, all you need to do is browse the disc for all the goodies.

I've been trying to get hold of that CD set for a while now. I would be very interested in getting hold of this

I picked this up from the torrents over the past few days and it's a real beauty. It's amazing to see this film as it should be seen - fully restored and unaltered. Can anyone confirm the file size though - I just want to make sure it hasn't been modified from the original. For some reason it had CSS protection when I tried to burn it. I got around it though. It came in at 3.79 GB. Sound right?

"the torrents" ?

If you got the one whose tracker uses a green imp mascot, then you'll have almost-but-not-quite the same thing as AvP put on teh paradox.
VOB files are exactly the same.
IFO files are different because some "fuckwit" changed 'em....

And this is why i hate torrents. The hassle i had with some of my releases because some idiot messed about with the original file

That file does seem undersized. Even with some dick messing with the IFO's , which are only a few kb's in size, the file should be 3.96GB, both with or without the optional audio fix. And there should be no CSS protection on it at all. I would suggest getting the version AvP uploaded over at tehparadox

MKV to AVCHD in TS Muxer?
Time

yes, MultiAVCHD is a brilliant free program. If you are worried about quality loss due to transcoding then i would suggest using 2 pass VHQ as the transcode settings. It does take a long time but the results are a lot better than 1 pass turbo. It takes me about 12 hours to do a 2 hour movie using this setting (but this was converting a lagarith encoded avi to AVCHD so it should be quicker with a mkv)

Version 4.1 though has some player compatibility problems which wasn't present in version 3 so best to make a quick test to see if your player can play the files first

This is my first post on this site, though I've been following this thread for quite awhile.

Sorry if this has been brought up before, I've looked through the thread and didn't find this mentioned. But, at over 700 pages, I may have missed it.

The one thing that has always bothered me in Empire is that after the first AtAt gets tripped up, they fly back, blast it and it explodes. "That armors too strong for blasters!"... unless the thing has fallen over? I think this would work better if they simply trip it, it falls over and then we cut to the troops "C'mon!" and they all run out to start fighting. I know we all love explosions, and that's a good one, but it seems totally illogical to me.

The pic posted recently of the fallen AtAt with the troops jumping out and Vader walking through the snow- something like that would be amazing.

Anyways, there's my annoying suggestion and first post.

Well this is how i have seen it since 1980:

The AT-At's have armour and not shielding. The neck is not a weak spot normally but when it crashes to the floor the neck fractures and therefore creates a weak spot which the speeders exploit. If the neck was permanently a weak spot then they would have just aimed for that all along.I have no problem with the AT-AT exploding so i won't be changing that

i decided against adding any ground snowtroopers because surely they would have picked off luke as he was about to destroy the Walker or as he was escaping. I was thinking of adding some deploying from the walkers towards the end though but i don't think we could get hold of any snowtroopers for the shoot

Computer Issues and Perhaps a Hiatus
Time

It sounds ore like a hardware issue than a virus/ mallware issue.

Try changing your CMOS battery on your motherboard and take out your memory then put it back in again. If this don't help then scan your hard drive within windows (you'll probably have to schedule it to do this task when windows restarts).

With the problems you mentioned about DVD's taking ages to burn, random beeps , the clock and usb devices not being recognised sounds like a motherboard problem. Try starting windows in safe model to see if these problems go away. If they do then you can bet its a windows/driver problem. If all this fails then before reinstalling try system restore to an earlier point before these problems started happening to try and fix this.

Can we expect new shots?

-Angel

no, i said i may be doing a new shot. This was back when i was building the large scale stardestroyer but that has been shelved until ROTJ:R so it won't be a completely new shot now

Jaitea said:

Hey Ady, do you remember I mentioned a smaller scale Finemolds Falcon? (yours being 1:72 and the new one being 1:144) heres a link to a video blog showing the build of one of these fantastic models, in the last part (part 22) he shows it as if hiding on the Avenger

J

yeh, thats a pretty well detailed model for its size

Jaitea said:

Yeah Ady has used a CG falcon but remember he bought the larger scaled version of this model (he wont tell us what scenes he's using it for though) I thought this video blog might be useful...yunno tips and all that.

J

The fine molds falcon is being used for the Rebel hangar matte replacement shots and for detail replacement on some shots, but will be used more in ROTJ:R

vaderios said:

Which reminds me falcon should be subtly yellow in space shots?

Why? The falcon model used in the movie is white. I'm not sure why a lot of these reproduction paint jobs on the models give it an off white/yellowish colour scheme. The only thing i can think of is that they are working from photographs from the exhibitions that had an incorrect white balance ( like so many photos i have seen)

Well i got my results back from the doctors today. They have diagnosed me with having severe migraines due to mild hypertension. Guess i've been doing a bit too much lately so i've got to take it easy for a while until my blood pressure lowers . At least it isn't very severe and the doctor thinks its just down to the cumulative effects of everything that's been happening in my life recently and me trying to do too much. And the temp blindness is just down to a severe migraine and nothing more, which is a huge relief.

I'm not bothering to tell my kids about this because they'll only worry when its just nothing severe so anyone here that goes on facebook please don't say anything over there. thanks :)

Jdownloader  is a great program and the only problem i ever had with it was not down to the program but the version of java my PC had. I updated to the latest version of Java and the program runs without problems. Try updating Java and see if that helps.

I have a premium rapidshare account as the free account is pretty useless. Rapidshare allocates free download slots and if they are all full then either your download speed will be really slow or it just won't download until slots become available

I've been hunting and hunting for the NTSC DVD .iso of this for several hours and I can't turn up any reliable torrents at all. I thought I had found something on FanEdit but it turned out to be a bogus DLC file, asking me to install some software called JDownloader. I'm normally hesitant to install such software, but I did anyway and that still doesn't work with the file. I really want to watch this!

Also, I'm assuming that the .iso will work normally in Daemon Tools right? I don't have a working DVD drive so I can't burn it.

A dlc file is an easier way of loading many links in one go into jdownloader. It's pretty commonly used nowadays. You say the it won't download in jdownloader. Make sure that your firewall isn't blocking the program first. Here's what to do:

Open jdownloader then got to the top menu and select "links>add links>add container" and import the dlc file. Click on the "linkgrabber" tab & you will see the files.  let the program check the links to see if they are all active. Once that is done then click on "continue with all" and it will start the download. It may take some time if you haven't got a premium rapidhsare account but it's still better than torrents
