Collaborative Fanediting: An ROTJ Proposition (BACK ON TRACK WITH EMANSWFAN AT THE HELM--SEE POST 1488 OR OP FOR A LINK!)

As much as I respect the originals, I really don't think it'd be a good idea to use Shaw.

People always argue that Shaw IS Anakin Skywalker, but... frankly, the Prequels WERE made, and Hayden WAS cast as Anakin. Hayden is Anakin Skywalker, and for the sake of the Saga, it should be Anakin Skywalker who appears at the end.

Shaw played an important part as the man behind the mask - but his voice and appearance really shouldn't be the basis for the formation of the Anakin character - considering we only can go on what we have in the movies, which is only about a minute or so of an old, broken man's labored last words.

I really don't see it as disrespect to "rob" Shaw of the last few seconds he appears as a ghost. And for the sake of the full-circle of the Saga, it probably should be Hayden.

BUT! It should NOT be the Hayden we see in the DVD and Blu-Ray. They should have made him look as old as he's supposed to be (What would it be? Like 50?).
So I'd suggest maybe taking Hayden's head from another of his movies where his hairstyle isn't so rouge-like, and maybe grey him up a little bit digitally. If you really want to go the extra mile, add in some wrinkles and you're set.

And concerning a scene about the stolen plans...
I really like the idea of showing it, but I'm just a little afraid of how it affects the style in relation to other Star Wars movies. This is the kind of scene you'd see in a cold opening, which is a lot more "modern" than the overall retro style of the Star Wars movies.
Is there a way to incorporate this idea more into the flow of the script?

The only way to make the scene tragic would be to make new shots from scratch to play up the emotion. Otherwise, Lando (and the Falcon) will just go down as lamely as Boba Fett.
I think Lando should live, but we should make it SEEM like he's going to die for the sake of suspense.

I would definitely agree with MrInsaneA on the order. It should open with the Death Star, then cut to Dagobah. Also, I'm a big fan of how the sounds and the quietness are played up in the beginning with Darth Vader arriving. It's powerful visuals with audio that really makes things feel unsettling and "something's about to happen"-ish.

I like the thought of making the falcon's exit take longer.

Are we still debating on whether or not Lando should die?

Well, either way, it'd be cool to play that scene out longer and let some suspense build. It goes so fast in the movie that you don't have time to really wonder whether or not Lando is going to make it out of there.

I mainly do composition and the like. I can rotoscope, and I can also make mattes (but not nearly as well as Angel can).

Most of my work is in moving video - motion tracking, rotoscoping, etc.

As far as CGI goes, most of my work is just in the composition, as I mainly used 3D models from Sci-Fi 3D. But I could definitely render them more realistically and such.

Basically, I can do a little bit of everything, and I'm pretty confident I can at least partially do many of the visual changes you would like to do. I can't know for sure until I know what will be done shot-by-shot.

I really don't think Coruscant would work in the end - the way the movie works out. It would be cool, but I'm not sure what that would do to the tension, having Luke millions of light years away from the action.

On a different note, here's my video mock-up

Keep in mind that it's JUST a mock-up, so don't expect completed/good-looking effects or anything.

I've actually only slowed down a few shots for the entire duel. And the one that was really noticeable is a little faster now, so it's not nearly as apparent.

I have a really awesome vision for the Mustafar duel, but it just wouldn't work - because it'd be REALLY slow and REALLY powerful. But I'd have to film new segments with actors in costume.

^ And for that, I'd love to use the slowed-down music. It matches my imagination perfectly.

You can count me in for CGI and backgrounds.
I can also (though I'm still learning) do rotoscoping and stuff like that.

I am also an actor, and would be entirely willing to do voiceovers and such.

I'd love to contribute story-wise, but I think there are others more talented than me in this field.

Yeah, the music when they're crashing is great as it is.

But when the ship is nose-diving, and they're running down the elevator shaft, it feels kind of weak and canned.

Anybody know where I can get the actual engine sounds of Grievous' flagship and stuff like that? It'd make replacing the music much easier (And eliminate the choppy  transition, which (unless I wanted screaming battle droids), was unavoidable.

Edit: I just remembered there's a scene in the movie with engine sounds and no music. I'll see if I can remix some new sounds for the nose-dive scene.

I think the "strobe" effect was probably added to make them look more like the OT sabers - an attempt to replicate the hand-drawn look of the originals. Also, many times the pointy tips make the sabers look flat, like they looked in ANH.

The biggest problem with the sabers is the color of the blue, which made them look really fake and ugly.
