RO hasn’t even come out, and fans have already started preparing VHS versions of it.

Rian Johnson on the set of Rogue One.
There’s also this new picture, but it’s not particularly interesting, well, unless a minor addition to uniforms get’s you exited (apparently trenchcoats was newsworthy for someone); https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CoftzhNVIAAm4by.jpg
Kind of off topic, but I just found 9 minutes worth of unused ROTJ footage! Take a look:
Wow. I’ve seen the clips of the female Rebel pilots before, but I had no idea that Madine was considered as a possible replacement for Ackbar.
PS, this whole deleted sequence/sub-plot focusing on Jerjerrod is also pretty interesting;

Electro from Spider-Man came before the Emperor from Return of the Jedi, so I’m not sure what you’re gettin’ at, Math.
I think he’s referring to the movie giving him a black hood (similar to Palpatine) as opposed to his yellow and green suit from the comics.
HOW THE HELL DO I POST PICS?!
! [ ] ( add link here )
Do this, minus the spacing.
Not super interesting, but I think this is the first image we’ve see that gives us some sense of the scale of the U-wing.
melt?
I didn’t make this, I just Googled “Alderaan inside job”.
(I think it’s a reference to 911 conspiracy theories.)
I thought Tarkin’s objective was to use fear to get the systems in line, therefore maintaining peace.
Yeah, that’s true. Still kind of a weird way to define “peace”, but in their twisted mind that mentality does make a lot of sense. Although it’s more of a “control” thing as apposed to “peace” in the general sense of the word.
Not exactly a “terrorist attack”, but more of a “terror”-attack or intimidation-attack.
Blowing up a pacifist planet is a pretty weird way to justify maintaining peace.
Tarkin even admits that Alderaan isn’t a "military target."
Yavin, Dantooine, and the Death Star, those are military targets.
Donnie Yen confirms that Jedha is in the new canon where you get lightsaber crystals (he technically only referred to “resources” but I hardly see what else it could be). So there’s probably something to the fan speculations that Jedha will be the source for the crystals used in the Death Star canon, hence its importance to the plot.

I like how it’s considered “Legends”.
There’s apparently also a Wookieepedia article for Noob
Most likely an EU retcon, but pretty clever none-the-less;
Why The Cockpit Of The Millennium Falcon Is Placed On The Side
Some new info about “Space Monkey”;
His real name: Bistan. He’s the gunner on a new starship known as the U-Wing, a sort of gunship and troop transport. “It’s not necessarily a character that we get to know, but I think he has a very memorable, iconic look,” said Edwards. “[He’s] one of my favorites. I can’t give away what happens to him.”
“Bigmouth,” whose real name is Pao, a soldier who serves as a kind of platoon leader, coordinating the charge into battle. “There was this great design of this creature that’s mouth would open really wide, and he looked like he was really good at giving orders and shouting at people during a battle,” Edwards said. “I was like, ‘We’ve got to give him that moment in the film,’ and so [Pao] was born out of that.”

From the Lucasfilm Pavilion at San Diego Comic-Con (2913), meet Rogue One’s Edrio Two Tubes:
Edrio Two Tubes is a mercenary pilot who flies alongside his eggmate, Benthic. The two share the nickname derived from the breathing apparatus that allows their Tognath physiology to process oxygen atmospheres. Edrio’s home world Yar Togna was conquered and occupied by the Empire, forcing him to flee as a refugee. Desiring to strike back at the Empire, Edrio and Benthic have allied with Saw Gerrera.
I’m not sure where they got this, but I found this at http://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/ and it was simply labelled; “Rogue One Planet Jedha”
They look like some form of priests, and they are on the planet Jedha which has been confirmed to be a pilgrimage for believers in the Force, but they look kind of sinister as well as walking alongside an Imperial officer, so doubt that they are good guys. Maybe we will get to see some Dark Side worshipers in RO? I haven’t been paying too much attention to the new canon, but do the general public in the SW universe know that the Empire is being run by a Sith lord?
Starkiller Base:
- The most overt rehash in TFA
- Even though it’s the size of the planet our characters move through it like a small base (which admittedly is a problem with the 1st Death Star too)
- Felt like a lazy plot device to destroy the Hosnian System
- Didn’t feel as threatening as either Death Stars
- It’s able to fire beams that travel through hyperspace
I more or less agree with everything except nr. 5. I’ve never understood why science should be that important. We are after all talking about a series that gave us this.
Frank also has a good point about the base on Starkiller being smaller than the actual “canon”. Also Starkiller is mostly just a planet with a few bases scattered on it, and a large trench housing the canon. All in all it has roughly the same amount of technology as the two Death Star’s had, only stretched out over a whole planet.
Also the abilities to move about the DS on foot, and Starkiller, is more or less a plot necessity, or at the very least a way to make the plot more “grounded” and interesting. Thrre’s plenty of Sci-fi ways of doing it, but it would have felt slow and boring, and not have had the dynamic action that SW is known for.
Or he could be the guy chasing after those who stole the Death Star plans, who ultimately screws up, and Vader is called in? We’ll know by December. 😉
"He [is] responsible for protecting the security of the Death Star project
-Wookieepedia
You’re probably right. It seems like his job is to defend/protect the DS, while Tarkin is the guy in charge of it.
And Vader will probably only show up towards the end of the film after Krennic has either died or it becomes apparent that he’s lost control over the situation.
(There’s a shot of Krennic on Scarif pulling out his blaster as he approaches a battlefield, seemingly in some last ditch effort to salvage the situation. Judging from the trailers it seems that Scarif will be the location of the final battle over the DS plans. The footage evens shows Jyn holding a package which most likely is the data-tapes for the DS. I have a feeling that Vader will appear after this scene, where probably Krennic and most of the rebels will die. Also the Vader shot from the trailer shown at SW celebration, from what I’ve read and seen on cellphone recordings, seems to be of him on a Star Destroyer bridge. This is probably the same as the opening of ANH.)
Yea, me too. I’m pretty sure the last time we saw a live action RA-7 was in A New Hope. I am really happy to see that droid again! Also, I just wanted to point out that the costume is expensive as hell because of the chrome platings. For reference, I had a Daft Punk helmet chromed and it ended up costing me $350. Just imagine how much it would cost to chrome a full-body suit! I’m glad to see that they are putting a lot of money and effort into costumes for extras. It really adds realism to the movie and it’s cool to see that they are doing this.
It’s always going to be Death Star Droid to me, thanks to Kenner. The original suit still exists, so they might have dusted it off?
Didn’t it appear in the Sandcrawler?
EDIT [I see that it appear briefly in the background on the DS], but it’s a bit weird that Kenner would name it after a scene where it’s in the background as opposed to the scene where it’s center-frame.
(Then again Kenner did get 4-LOM and Zuckuss mixed up)
Some footage of Tudyk’s K-2SO as well a bit of info about his personality;

Edwards confirms that the planet Jedha is a pilgrimage destination for Force believers.
"The whole real backstory of it all is really more a thing for the canon and Lucasfilm, but I feel like it’s definitely…if you believe in the Jedi and you believe in the Force, it feels like Jedha is somewhere you should visit in your lifetime. It’s like a spiritual home of the Jedi."
Not too much info about if RO will have an opening crawl or not, but it seems like they’re leaning on not having one.
I think the appeal for me is that I didn’t really like Thrawn as he was written in his trilogy in the old EU, so I’m hoping they make him a better character in Rebels. I like the idea of new takes on established characters, especially EU characters.
I see what you mean, but I still find it strange. If you didn’t like the original Thrawn character, why would you have him remade rather than get someone completely original?
For some people, I’ve heard they’re excited that Thrawn will now be Officially Full Canon now.
I’ve never understood this argument. It’s all fiction, Thrawn is fiction, why must he be part of the official canon. Some fans react almost as if they’ve just learned that a a character from legends (like Robin Hood, or something similar) was just revealed to be a real historical character. This is even how Lucasfilm have been hinting at Thrawn’s return; I can’t find the exact quote but it was something like "some elements of the legends are true".
I dunno, it’s just silly and weird to me.
Bottom line for me is this; I find re-booting characters weird, and I don’t watch Rebels anyway, but at least the new Thrawn looks cool and like the voice they chose for him.
So I hear that Admiral Thrawn has been recanonized.
EDIT: already mentioned in Rebels thread.
Eh, there never was a reason to canonize him, besides fanservice of cause. But whatever.
I’m actually quite surprised at just how thrilled fans are by Thrawn’s return, and how eager they are to have their favorite old characters re-written for the new canon. Like why would people want a new Kyle Katarn? And this is coming from a huge Katarn fan. I don’t see the appeal of classic EU character being re-written. If you like the Legends canon then stick with the Legends canon. Shouldn’t the new canon focus more on original characters?
That’s why I’m exited about Krennic in RO. I like that it’s someone new. He’s a bit like Thrawn, sure, but it’s still someone new that I’m interested to learn more about. The new Thrawn looks like he’s been competently written, and I really do like he voice they chose for him, but it’s just the same Thrawn people read about 25 years ago.
I’m also kind of curious as to what Zahn is going to do in the new Thrawn book. Is there really anything new to tell about Thrawn after seven books? I can’t imagine that there’s much more to add to the character than to recycle what has already been written.
Wait, did Thrawn just quote Prince of Persia?
