Should Vader and The Emperor even know who Yoda is?
Time

LexX said:

I don’t remember how exactly the book went, but in ROTJ Vader and the Emperor found about Yoda in the throne room when Luke was there, IIRC. It’s been awhile since I read it but either Luke told them or they searched his thoughts.

From the novelization:

The Emperor tapped his fingers on the arm of the throne, recalling. “There was one called…Yoda. An aged Master Jed…Ah, I see by your countenance I have hit a chord, a resonant chord indeed. Yoda then.”

Then a bit later he asks Luke;
This Yoda," the Emperor mused. "Lives he still?"
And he doesn’t make a very big deal out of it when he finds out he’s dead, other than the fact that there’s no more Jedi to train Luke.

From this dialogue I’d say it’s heavily implied that Palpatine has never actually met Yoda. He seems to only have heard of him, which I guess makes sense as he trained Obi-Wan and possibly others, and he presumably had a reputation.

Although they’ll most likely CG this creature if it ever has to run (or "trot? Whatever you call it.) I’m glad to see just how much practical Johnson seems to be going for with these creatures.

I also really like Hux’ nazi-limousine. Seems very fitting.

I’m actually really exited to see Canto Bight in TLJ. It’s one of those types of settings that really fit the SW universe’s WWII inspiration, but which has never been depicted before. Unless you count the EU of course.

Discussion: Your latest star wars buys?
Time

I’ve just returned from a trip to the US and this is all of the SW stuff I bought during my stay there.

Imgur

It’s not that I can’t find SW stuff in Scandinavia, but since it’s all new and imported it costs a lot more than random thrift shop finds in the US. Plus finding these kinds of things in thrift shops in Norway is rare to the point of never happening. Also the old Marvel SW comics are simply straight up impossible to find (unless you count the translated versions, which I do own most of), so those are the ones I’m the most happy about getting.

This looks weird and interesting.

(I’m getting a bit of a weird 70’s sci-fi film vibe from it all as well. Or is that just me? Obviously SW is from the 70’s, but I’m thinking pre-SW sci-fi films. The sets and locations seem more odd and colourful than what we’ve seen before in SW.)

Kind of an odd place to find potential spoilers, but Kylo’s Tie-fighter might be called a “TIE-Silencer”, we get another look at Snoke’s guards, and it even suggests that Luke might be stranded on Ach-To after having crashed his X-Wing there.

EDIT: The images were removed, but I found another copy of the new scout walker (all the other weren’t too different from the OT.).

It’ll definitely be interesting to see this thing actually move in the film.

You’ve made an unsubstantiated assumption that it fell out of the garbage chute to begin with.

I don’t get why so many people insist that Luke’s lightsaber must have fallen into Bespin? There are so many possibilities as to what could have happened to it.
It’s not impossible that lost objects could be dumped into the gas giant, but simply hitting a floor at the bottom or being sucked into one those tubes that Luke fell into are equally probable. According to TFA they obviously went with one of the latter (as did Legends I might add). Why is this such a big deal to some people?

Since this all seems to revolve around Kennedy backing up Kasdan over M&L I can’t say that I’m too worried. I’m as confused as everybody else that it took this long for her to make this decision, but I’m glad that Kasdan’s vision is being prioritised here. I don’t see why everyone is saying it’s Kennedy who’s trying to tell the story here, from what I’ve read it seems like they’re trying to preserve Kasdan’s story, and M&L apparently wasn’t living up to his script. If they can find a good director to reshoot all the important character moments, while ILM keeps working on the special effect scenes (which I doubt were compromised in any way by M&L’s style), I think this film could turn out pretty well.

I never had much hope for M&L’s involvement anyway, but was always cautiously optimistic thanks to Kasdan being the writer. If all of this really is about staying try to Kasdan’s script, then it might turn out to have been a good, albeit late, decision.

It sounds to me like the conflict was mostly over characterization and dialogue. I’m sure all of the large set pieces, VFX shots, etc. went according to script. If RO could add several elaborate CG moments and action set pieces as late in production as they did I’m sure this film won’t have too many difficulties reshooting more character focused scenes.

I’m getting kind of confused as to who had creative disagreements with whom? From what I’ve gathered Lord and Miller left the project as opposed to being fired, and I think it was EW who said that they had disagreements with Kasdan. But according to this article the disagreements were between Kasdan and Kennedy?

EDIT: Nevermind.

Star Wars Episode IX (was) to be directed by Colin Trevorrow - DUEL OF THE FATES RIP
Time

Lucasfilm does have the story group though. They haven’t interfered with the writing of the films so far, but then again, they haven’t really had a reason to yet. Also I’m sure Kathleen Kennedy would interfere or at the very least hire more writers if Trevorrow were do do an exceptionally bad job with IX.

I agree that Trevorrow might make IX fairly dull, but I’m not convinced Lucasfilm or Disney will allow it to become bad. RO had multiple writers, not to mention plenty of reshoots, and Kennedy fired Trank, so I’m personally not too worried.

When Did The Star Wars Prequels Become Cool?

kellyliston2017 said:

They never became cool. The problem with the prequels are: they came out at a time of a whole new generation of fans. The newer generation won’t appreciate the original trilogy like we do and we see the prequels as a desperate attempt for George Lucas to make a little money.

The PT covered pretty much the majority of my childhood, and I’ve always preferred the OT. All of my friends at school did. I think we were too young to really care about old vs new. Granted the SE did make the OT seem much newer (I was the only kid that owned a copy of the OOT). But I don’t think that appreciation of the OT is the problem, and you definitely didn’t need to have experienced them in the 70’s/80’s to prefer them over the PT. Maybe it was unique to my experience, but my classmates enjoyed the OT and “old” films like the Indiana Jones movies just as much as we enjoyed current film series like the PT, LOTR, POTC, etc.

I grew up with the PT, I was even introduced to SW via TPM in 1999, however as an adult I really can’t stand them. I find them nostalgic, yes, but it does in no way stop me from criticising or disliking them.

I’m actually quite surprised at how many people my age defend the PT online nowadays, as everyone I know personally that’s my age more-or-less share my opinion. Heck, even friends of mine that enjoy silly films like the Transformers films will rip into the PT the second they’re mentioned.

I suspect that a lot of it is just people being loud on the internet, I don’t think it’s too common an attitude. I also think that a lot of people, like dgraham414 suggested, are merely being defensive. It’s not like OT fans are immune to hyperbole.

It is theorized that desert planets might be rather common https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desert_planet
So it makes sense to have lots of them.

Get your astronomy outta here, this is a space wizard series.

Take your pick then;
Sci-Fi explanation or plot explanation.

As mentioned earlier, SW is very influenced by Westerns, and Han is very much the gunslinger of the OT, so a desert world works well that way. And, it makes sense to “return” to Tatooine considering Han’s past with Jabba.

Plus, how many environments are there left to pick from anyway? The speeder footage suggest a city or industrial area, so we might finally get to see Corellian.
