Dark Knight Rises - Now that we know the cast
Time

Looking back at the OP, I love how short-sighted the rumor mill is.

Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Anne Hathaway will play Selina Kyle -- aka Catwoman -- in Christopher Nolan's next Batman franchise installment The Dark Knight Rises, reports USA TODAY's Scott Bowles.

(Rumors had included Keira Knightley, Jessica Biel, Naomi Watts and Katie Holmes for the role.)

Did they forget that Katie Holmes was already in the first film as another character?

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time

The TIE vs Death Star explosions - I'm OK with them as is because of the relative size differences.

A standard TIE fighter is listed as being about 6m (I'm guessing that's height). Now, relative to that, I'm going to guess that the explosion it created was somewhere on the order of 15m tall.

The Death Star is listed as being about 120km - literally 20,000 times larger than a TIE. That means the explosion it generates is somewhere on the order of 150km.

If you put the TIE explosion next to the DS explosion "in scale" the TIE looks like a tiny flash, no bigger than a flickering star, by comparison.

Relative to the sizes of the craft generating them, the explosion sizes are accurate. What's probably throwing you off is the visual aspect - the amount of screen space the explosions takes up, the perceived distance between viewer and explosions and the visual styles of the different explosion effects.

The Avenger Initiative (* unfinished project - a host of info & ideas*)

Planning is key. Start by sitting thru IM, IM2 and TIH and working out the timing issues - when things happen, how long they take and where events overlap and reference the other films.

Lay them out in a spreadsheet with each film on a different row in a different color, with the columns breaking up individual scenes and sequences. That will allow you to shift things around and adjust how the elements need to align and interact. The more of these problems you can solve "on paper", the easier the real edit will go later.

A teeny observation, you used the sound effect of luke's saber igniting from the 2004 SE and from ROTJ. Please don't use that sound in the actual film, it doesn't really fit.

The sound effects used in the trailer are just stock effects and not an indication as to how it will sound in the movie

You oughta add that to your signature until you get around to working on the sound mix.

Oh yeah, PAL. Dumb differing "standards"...

I thought the whole idea of the 24fps HD video standard was to bypass the whole PAL/NTSC issue and have one universal standard that everyone could use (aside from Region codes, but that doesn't apply to burned discs).

Hey Ady,

Not to add to your workload of building and filming models, but someone over at Starship Modeler just came out with a Studio Scale Star Destroyer Bridge/Neck section - http://www.starshipmodeler.net/talk/viewtopic.php?t=91201

Don't know if you need it for Empire but it could probably come in handy for Jedi.

Well said HotRod....

Things have certainly been quiet from Ady's com-station lately, has anyone heard if someone has stepped up to the plate on his request for a spring loaded hand grip for a cabling system yet?
Unknown. I'll get back to you.

I sent Ady a sketch of a design that can be built with common hardware store materials - 1x2 wood and plastic plumbing pipe.

I never knew of the actual Kenner toy lightsabres. My parents bought me a glow in the dark sword and told me it was a lightsabre toy. AND I BELIEVED THEM! For some reason, I liked to put the sword across the arms of our living room chairs and then sit on the sword. Which broke the handle off. Several times. My mom must have hot-melt glued that thing at least 50 times.

That reminds me - I still have the remnants of my original SST Lazer Sword, one of the first bootleg lightsaber toys. When the batteries in the flashlight handle got "cancer", I threw out the flashlight part (didn't realize you could clean off the cancer fairly easily, unlike in the human body) and ended up replacing the flashlight several times over the years. To this day, I still have the original flange, blade, endcap and detail ring transplanted on a flashlight.

Favorite star wars child hood memories not related to the films

I was in my teens when the films were in the theaters (11 in '77, you do the math on the rest) and some of my first younger cousins were born right around that time (oldest of them was born in '75) and this particular one has his younger sister in it, so I'd say it dates to around '79 or '80.

Bobby (the little cousin, about 4 or 5 years old), my sister and I are playing with SW figures on the floor. I forget who had which figures but we were acting out one of the scenes from the film. Kristin, Bobby's sister (about 2 years old) just shows up out of nowhere, Greedo in hand, and gets right into the action...

"I PLAY TOO!"
