Sound mixes from different versions of star wars
Time

The problems weren't just whether or not a sound element was available, it was an issue of WHAT was done in the sound mix - movement, volume, tonal quality and so on.

A perfect example is the fanfare when Red Leader makes the initial attack on the Death Star.  On the US English track, that music is pushed so far into the background that it's almost inaudible.  But the same scene ON THE SAME DISC on the French and Spanish language tracks has the music vibrant and proper.  So, the music is only supposed to be in the foreign language mixes and not in the English mix, in spite of the fact that it was in ALL PREVIOUS English language sound mixes?

STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>

Park on the driveway, drive on the parkway.

Cargo goes by ship.  Shipments go by truck.

A woman has a pair of panties but just one bra.

And while we're on the subject of women's stuff - years ago it was a major breakthrough that they came out with "disposable douche".  What I'd like to know is, who would want to keep it in the first place?  AND, how were they getting rid of it before it was disposable???

PS what the hell has happened to fanedit.org? I cant get on to it at all for the last day or so.

They're having hosting problems again, so they're moving to yet ANOTHER hosting service.  Give it time.

I just managed to get there and this was on their news page:

Site revamp and host change

once again Fanedit.org has switched the host for better reliability. The new one is rather expensive but incredibly fast and we hope to be able to feed the 1500+ daily visitors to the very best of service with it. The web site has also undergone some changes for better comfort. The CSS feature for example is vastly improved now and does not show just the new comments but everything new, neatly listed and displayed so you will miss nothing on FE.

Introducing SW to the kids
Time

Ok, the "When was the first time you saw SW" thread got me thinking off on this tangent, so I figured I'd start a separate discussion for it.

When and how did you introduce SW to a younger generation - your kids or other children in your family or circle of friends?

I got to do it right from the start.  My older nephew was born in 1995.  As soon as he was old enough to play with toys on purpose (as opposed to sticking them in his mouth), I gave him some spare Vintage SW figures I had that were missing weapons and such.  I sat him down and showed him some of the action scenes from the various films, as I knew he was too young (3 or 4 years old) to get into the story just yet, but it was enough that he could relate the figures to what he saw on screen.  I tried to give him the basic plot points, too.

A year or two later, we were watching Toy Story 2.  Near the end, there's the scene where Zurg and Buzz do their take on the end of TESB.  I wanted to see if he got the reference so I turned to him and said "Where have you heard that before?"  He said threw his hands up in disgust and said "Toy Story!"...as if to say "Right here, idiot!  Weren't you paying attention?"  Then I explained it to him.  "No, what OTHER movie did you see where the bad guy was the good guy's father?"  Then he smiled as the lightbulb turned on over his head.  "Star Wars."

Fast forward another couple of years.  He's taking karate lessons and has occasionally used his little brother as target practice.  It was my dad's birthday and one of my dad's friends who was there has a black belt.  We were talking about him taking lessons and I made another SW reference.  I told my nephew "Karate is like The Force.  Remember what Yoda told Luke?  'A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack.'"  Dad's friend said "That's absolutely right."  Baby brother was safe from target practice after that.

When and in what format was the first time you saw Star Wars?
Time

Hmmmph.   Kids.

I saw ANH in a drive-in theater when I was 11.  TESB was in a theater in California when we went to visit a friend of my dad's.  ROTJ was a local theater.  Me, my sister and some friends got there early.  Stood on line thru two showings by the time we got in.  By the time we got out, the line wrapped around the theater -  a 12 screen multiplex  - TWICE.  Interestingly, that theater was built on the site where that very same aforementioned drive-in theater used to be.

Ok, another audio tweak...one that I didn't see listed in the Suggestion Terminal thread.

At the end of the Asteroid Chase, Han says "I'm going in closer to one of the big ones" and the group says "Closer?"  "Closer?"  "Rowwrlr?".  Right after that, in the GOUT, 3PO says "Oh, this is suicide."  In the '04, he says "Oh, this is suicide.  There's nowhere to go."

Personally, I prefer the GOUT version, as the additional line feels squeezed in there.

My Blade Runner Final Cut Four-Disc Collector's Edition is in Letterbox?
Time

It can be both.  "Enhanced for Widescreen TVs" = anamorphic as Max_Rebo said.  That means the image will fill the screen left to right.

BUT

depending on the aspect ratio of the original film, you may end up with some letterbox lines at the top and bottom, as Moth3r said.  16x9=1.78:1 theatrical aspect ratio.  Anything wider than that (more than 1.78) and you'll end up with letterbox lines, even if the disc is anamorphic.

ady, i read on another thread that apparantly on the 2004 release, that scenes during battles of people being shot were shortened as not to offend younger viewers. i wasnt aware of this, but have you restored any of these in your IV and V edits?

That's always puzzled me. They shorten a few shots of people getting blasted in ANH in order to 'not offend', but just look at what happened to Mr. Burned and Crispy Anakin in Revenge of the Sith. I realize that Sith is rated PG-13, but still... Lucas wants us to watch them in order from 1-6, right?

I guess the logic was that Anakin getting burned was a key story point, where the blaster burns are just for effect and don't affect the story.

Side note - notice how I used "effect" and "affect" each properly in the same sentence?  That's one of my internet pet peeves...people who mix and match words and spelling because they're too lazy to learn the right way.  If there was some way I could get paid for it, I could make a million $ a year just running around the internet correcting spelling and grammar mistakes.

Star Wars on Blu-ray?
Time

It's not that Star Wars isn't a successful brand, it's that Lucas has an over-inflated opinion of what it's worth.  The bad taste the PT, and to a lesser degree the SE's, left in people's mouths has devalued it, yes, but it's not dead.  The problem is Lucas wants to control the whole thing to make ALL the money from it instead of share it with someone else in the interest of building it back up to where it was pre-1997.

Are you guys talking about the "imperial cargo" shuttle that the rebel allaince hijaks and Han, Liea and, Luke use to get to Endore in ROTJ? I was confused that they reused the shuttle Darth Vader arrives in at the beginning of the film, I thought that shuttle was like a personal shuttle used only for superiors, but then we are told it is just a cargo shuttle. I was like huh? Darth Vader flew in just a cargo shuttle. That's not like him.

Never heard of the concept of "multi-function", huh?  Never seen a standard Cadillac converted into a limousine before?

Everything the Empire designs is modular in some way.  This is most evident in the various TIE fighters - same basic cockpit ball, just slap on different wings/solar panels for different jobs.

Why can't the shuttle be the same?  The exterior is a standard design, the difference is in the way the interior is fitted - wide open for cargo, row seats for troops, a few luxury seats for the Emperor and his flunkies.  If YTs can be customized and modified, why not Lambdas?

problem is, it makes star wars seem like a kid film. its more mature then that!

ANH was a kid film, but you didn't recognize it as such because you WERE a kid when you saw it.  It wasn't until years later that the deeper meanings and such started to reveal themselves on repeated viewings.

Genndy's Clone Wars was more in tune with the films.  This CG Clone Wars is just a cash grab, plain and simple.

Tons O' Fun said:

Hello all I've been following this board and the ANH:R for some time but finally decided to make an account and take part in all the fun.

With all that discussion a while ago about how to end the movie, I remember something from when I saw Empire Special Edition in the theater years ago.

Now it may just be a fuzzy memory to me or something but I can remember at the very end of Empire when all the Rebel ships are at the nebula at the end just before the credits, I can remember seeing them all jump to light speed just before the credits rolled.

I can remember being super excited when the films came out on VHS to see that again because it was what I liked the most out of the added material in the Special Editions. Then to my surprise it wasn’t there, and I haven’t heard anybody mention it ever again.

So it could be all in my head, but I still like the picture that I’ve created there. So maybe if Adywan could do that it be a nice bit to add to the ending.

Thanks again for your time in reading this everybody.

We already covered that earlier in this thread.  It never happened, it was just some people's imaginations feeding off of each other.
