Blu-ray prices not coming down

Recording ability has nothing to do with buying movies.  I didn't say it did.  But the reason VHS stayed alive as long as it did was because it could record and DVD couldn't.  Once DVD could record, THAT made VHS fully obsolete.  Why continue to use tapes that can wear out when you can use discs that don't wear, as well as don't have to be rewound?

Likewise, when BD recorders become commonplace, they'll no doubt record better quality than DVD, which in turn will make DVD obsolete.

It's called common sense.  Try it some time.

Put in page 3 in the box on the top right and start with "The Rebels Won".  Those are all the clips from the second Robot Chicken SW Special.

And, as far as this whole Boba in ROTJ issue is concerned...

Remember that laserdisc didn't die either.  But it didn't supplant VHS.  It just became a videophile niche format.  Even after DVD came out, plenty of places still carried laserdisc.

Part of that was that LD was only a "play" format.  VHS was "play" and "record".  The average public wants convenience first, quality second, so LD stayed on the fringes.

DVD didn't start to replace VHS until DVD recorders became cheaper.  Likewise, when BD players come down and BD recorders go desktop, then DVD will start to be phased out.

Another RotJ question though:

Sarlacc, with mouth or without?  I know it looks kind of like Audrey II, but I honestly think the mouth thing helps with the danger instead of being just a hole with teeth.  Did it need to be done?  Of course not.  Do I think it improves the scene?  I think so.

I can live with the addition of the beak, just change the sound FX.  We're talking about a critter than can swallow human beings the way we swallow peanuts.  Its vocalizations, such as they are, should sound a little more threatening than a pissed off seagull.

Fox wins the case against Warner Bros or so i read google it if you must. Heres a thread for everyone's thoughts on it.

The one kink in Fox's armor, from a legal perspective, is why did they wait until the film is on the verge of release before going to WB about this?  SOMEONE got word back to Fox early on that the film was moving forward.  This is Hollywood we're talking about...the in-breedingt that exists there is the entertaniment industry equivalent of the kid on the porch in Deliverance.

This is just Fox's way of making some fast easy money.  They're hoping to strong-arm WB into either paying them outright or giving them a cut of the take.  Don't think for a minute that artistic integrity or any of that happy horse shit has anything to do with this.

Could the psychic creature that is not in the movie be ripped off of the film forbidden planet?

By the way how do you do that hidden spoiler that you have to highlight to read?

Why are you so worried that things will be "ripped off" one film/book or another?  As long as it's not done in the exact same way, why does it matter?  I don't think a single movie in the past 30 years (maybe even 50) has had an original idea.  Every major blockbuster has taken ideas that came before it, repackaged them, and made them look new and fresh.  Isn't that enough?  From Star Wars to The Matrix, every single movie has borrowed and reborrowed from what came before.

Unless the writers/directors/producers never read or see any other comic or movie, they're going to be influenced by everything that has come before and they're going to include little things here and there that are either blatant ripoffs or nice little homages.  As long as the story is adapted properly, not much else should matter.

Thank you!  Sometimes I feel like beating sense into skyjedi is part of the sub-culture of this entire site.

DVD5 - "first release", all FX done, full menus, bonus features

DVD9 - "final release", same as DVD5 plus some more bonus features, better video quality

Purist - the final release with some changes undone to make it closer to the theatrical version of the film.  No bonus features.

H264 - HD version but with minimal changes from the '04 official DVD - color correction and one or two minor changes.

2CD - don't know about that one.

I have a question.

We See at ANH that the millenium falcon has some green lights in its interior just before the Cockpit ( I think its 4-5 in a row)

Now We see the same lights in ENB with blue.

Its an upgrade? or in the color corection will be back Green?

Thx

-Angel

Unless the color got changed by virtue of Ady's color correction, I don't think this is worth worrying about one way or the other.  The only effort that should be put into changing them is if they're inconsistent from one shot to the next, but if they were changed on the set and are different from one whole film to the next, call it one of Han's repairs or upgrades and leave it at that.

The Falcon scale thing is a matter of perspective...literally.  It's hard to tell just how far the Falcon is from the slug's teeth from just the cockpit shots.  There aren't any exterior shots until almost the last second, at which point it's a matter of a few feet away.  Without knowing where in the slug the Falcon is at a given moment, it's hard to say how close or far it is from the teeth.

Nick Fury actually came out on DVD earlier this year.

Notice how they're trying to "elevate" the film to some level of quality, as evidenced by the comment on the cover.

While the film itself is of questionable quality, I'll give them credit in that Hoff looked EXACTLY like the way they were drawing Fury in the comics in those days.

And i have mentioned before that i won't be adding any form of red tint to Veers AT-AT cockpit. it is red in 1 shot only. All other shots the red tint does not exist. So I'll be removing the red cockpit from that single shot.

Also, would you consider overlaying graphics on the AT-AT windows when we see the driver perspective shots (ala ANH with the Death Star view screen)?

I suggested that too but he said No.

right now, i'm in the nightmarish position of trying to figure out how to organize

several terabytes of data, and be able to find something without digging through

hundreds of discs.

Categorize.

Start by making piles of discs. Start with all the categories of movies that you see in Blockbuster aisles or on Netflix. Once you get through that, start working out your own categories - or sub-categories within the standard movie ones - to suit your collection. Behind The Scenes, Fan Edits, Not Officially Available on DVD, Recorded from Broadcast, and so on.

Once you've got all these piles worked out, start putting them into Excel, or if you have a heavy-duty version of Office, use Access. If you feel the need to have everything in printed form, use different color loose-leaf binders for the various categories.

I'm also guessing you have a number of discs that are just conglomerations of whatever was clogging your hard drives at that point in time. Assuming you have as much content as you say you do and aren't exaggerating, keep in mind that part of this process will most likely involve copying and re-organizing content from one disc to another or out onto separate discs.

unfortunately unless YET ANOTHER FUTURE FORMAT comes out, with people

looking ahead to address these problems with HD content, we're just going

to go through this cycle yet again with something else (hopefully NOT BLU-RAY 2,3 etc)

Yep.  Since the media companies are stupid, you can bet that when the next best thing comes along, they'll argue about what to put in the standard.  They'll either come to an agreement or we'll have yet another format war.  That isn't likely to happen for another 10-20 years though, so it's a ways off.

The "next generation" of media player is already here - flash memory cards.  It's a matter of waiting for cost vs. capacity to come down.  That's the ideal "player" when you think about it - no moving parts to break down.
