STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

Actually, I think there was a lot of thought put into the PT bonus discs...from a marketing perspective, anyway.

The only commentary on the deleted scenes was how it was such a good decision to delete them. All the bits on the FX show how everything went perfect the first time...no mistakes whatsoever. All the production sketches and designs were only the ones that most closely resembled the final versions, nothing of the alternate or deleted ideas, or very little at best.

If that doesn't smack of incredible levels of self-satisfaction and egotism, nothing does.

I dont think the PT should really be touched that much. If you dont like them then dont watch them let alone re-edit them. It sounds like your planning on sabotaging them Ady.

Ady's comment about "ripping them to shreds" is what's called sarcasm. What he means is that he'll be doing a lot more editing to them as far as content, compared to the FX heavy work on the OT.

Don't take everything so literally, D I.

^ Interesting edit - and watching that video reminded me of a suggestion I raised many moons ago, but am not too sure what (if anything) is being done about it: is Ady planning on adjusting the motion of the nose of the X-Wing as it comes down to rest on the ground in this sequence? To make it looks less plastic-y and model-y, and more like a heavy spacecraft? Maybe if the nose-tip buckled, slightly, when it first touches down, for example?

What I think you mean by the nose buckling would actually be the nose just dipping and recovering a bit via some kind of shock-absorber reaction of the front landing gear as the ship becomes re-affected by gravity as Yoda lowers it to the ground. When a vehicle "buckles", it's actual physical damage from an impact of some kind, like in a car crash, which isn't what's happening here.

Ditto to that on both notes. : )

I was wondering that as well...Spike is done with SW? Perfect timing...just as I finally get my first HDTV...

Of course "hiding" Luke away from Vader by giving him to Vader's step-brother and keeping the "Skywalker" name wasn't too smart in the beginning, but what're you going to do? :)

Hide in plain sight.

Vader (thinking): "Obi-Wan brought a kid named Skywalker to live with a guy I found out later was my step-brother on the very same planet I grew up on? That's too much of a coincidence...gotta be a bullshit rumor."

By "real", I'm guessing you mean believably detailed. No, that they're not. What I mean is that the designs don't all need to be changed. They're "alien" buildings, for all practical purposes...they're allowed to not completely follow Earthbound design logic. In most cases, simply re-drawing the same content with more clarity and detail will be enough...it doesn't need to be a different design than what's there. No point in creating extra work where there doesn't need to be.

And, in a related vein, they don't all need to be redrawn to be crystal clear. Leaving some of them blurry also has a logic to it - atmospheric haze. The place is called CLOUD City, not SKY City.

A general word to everyone concerned with Cloud City windows - don't get too hung up on what's outside what window. A lot of CC's geography is unknown as to where "this" area is relative to "that" one and how far it is from "here" to "there", so at least some of the window and exterior views can stay as is.

Unless someone has detailed maps of CC, they don't need to be changed because there isn't enough information to prove that the existing view conflicts with anything.

And no, set construction blueprints don't count. They're designed for efficiency within the limits of what's needed for filming. If you go by set blues, every ship on Star Trek has one straight and one C shaped hallway intersecting each other and every room ever shown is within 50 feet of every other room.

AND, Ady has already said that he's not referencing any EU materials, so nix the Cross Sections books, too.

But those windows have fake looking buildings in them compared with the great looking ones Ady has added, I am talking more about replacing them with appropriate scenery rather those static original ones. EU is not definitive by any means, but wouldn't one say it's a bit closer to canon that what our own imaginations are? Or are our imaginations more canon?

That's what I mean. Re-doing them for image quality is fine. They don't all need to have different views than what's there.

The problem is how Lucas' ego has inflated over the years, to the point where everything he does with SW is an attempt to re-capture past glory of the days of the original film's release - not the film itself, but his feelings of those days. He wants it to be a "new experience" every time it comes out, no matter how many times people have seen it before. Restoring the OOT won't be a "new experience", it will be "recreating an old experience".

Keeping the OOT looking as shit as possible makes the SEs look better by default rather than any changes that might truly improve the films.

Idea: The Turning Star Wars Into A Television Show Fun Thread.
Time

Mix and match the classic SW font and the prequel font. Use classic for "STAR WARS" and the "Episode #" lines, prequel for "Previously on..." and the episode titles.

BTW, I mentioned this thread over in the "Consecution" thread at FE and it got an immediate response, so much so that boon started a separate thread for it to organize it in a more formal manner and start getting people to commit to actually doing it.

It's just that it's hard to put into words. It's something you have to see to understand, and even at that, you need to be into film/video to care one way or the other. I majored in film production in college, so my eye is attuned to things like image clarity and film grain. I was trying to explain the difference to my mom and sister tonight and they couldn't relate to what I was talking about.

As far as the TV's involved, both are 42" LCD, hers is a Vizio and she paid about $900 where mine is Westinghouse and I paid $600.

And that's a good thing? :-P

Film still has a higher "resolution" than video methods. TPM will always look better than AOTC or ROTS for that reason.

That's not what I mean. "Video" looks different than "film". It's hard to put into words.

Look at a home family video. Look at the dimensionality of it. Look at the way things look.

Now look at a film. It has a different feel to it. It almost makes video look fake, as backwards as that sounds.

Film looks "real". Video looks "live".

OK, after looking at my sister's TV again today and investigating exactly which make/model she has, I figured out why I noticed this film/video difference - 120Hz. The 120's make film look "live" because of the doubled frequency rate. My new Westinghouse 42" is the standard 60Hz and TESB on Spike still looks like film.

Just saw my first "non Star Wars" movie starring Hayden Christensen

I think what would have added a little something to HC's performance in the prequels is if they modulated his voice a bit lower and lower as he turned more towards the Dark Side. Not to the point where he sounds exactly like JEJ during the final duel, but enough that the vocal transition from "Anakin" to "Vader" would feel a little more natural.

Over at FanEdit, there's a guy who just finished an edit of Batman Begins. One of the things he did was pitch Katie Holmes' voice down and in the before/after clip he posted, it makes a HUGE difference.

Plus, the Imperials on that ship seemed to have near suicidal tendancies at times. Everytime I hear "and will apologize to Lord Vader", I wonder if the guy actually thought that would work. :P I'd be hauling ass to the nearest escape capsule.

Maybe they're hoping to catch him on a "good day".
