Info Wanted: Should ADYWAN re-edit the prequels?

I'm interested to see what he's going to do with them, but I don't really care too much, to be honest. I don't think they can be made into films worthy of the Star Wars name, no matter who's fixing them.

You said it. I'm sure he'll make as good a stab at it as anyone, but those movies would take more work than I think is possible with available material.

Although, given the time frame we're looking at for Ady to get around to the prequels, the Blu-rays will doubtless be out and probably more deleted footage. Maybe not, but by then it's a possibility.

The idea has been out there for some time for someone to try and do an ONE prequel film together using the three films.

The idea is that TPM with little Annie would essentially be a prologue and montage with then ROTS serving as the true time film with flashbacks to AOTC moments, etc.

Kinda like the old Godfather edit from the '90's where Coppola edited it together.

It's been done, more than once.

Whatever happened to 'every little bit helps'? ;) I personally send what I feel I can justify in sending at the time, which is the way it should be for everyone, innit? Last donation I gave was a modest £10, I believe, and I didn't think 'what's the point?' Sure, the shopping list might be nice to see, but I hope people don't feel pressured to give beyond their means.

Right, but wouldn't you feel stupid if you sent him $20 when sending him $25 was what he needed to move on to the next step? Granted I'm just using those numbers as an example, but you get my logic.

Likewise, if everyone can see how much he needs for different projects, it gives a more tangible gauge for how much to donate, as well as a better way to see how far along things are at any given point, avoiding the constant "So when will this be done?" questions every three pages.

...and I'd like to contribute again. Before I do, though, is there any "minimum" donation that makes it worthwhile? I ask only because once the funds get changed from Canadian to British currency, I'm not sure how "usable" a donation becomes.

That's a good point. Can you post a "shopping list" of sorts of how much you estimate you need for various projects? That will give us a better idea of how much to send.

I was under the impression it cost a lot more than that, or maybe I'm confused by the inflated post-deletion prices. I thought it was over $1000 originally.

No, it's two different products. The Master Replicas one is pre-finished and complete - take it out of the box, put it on your shelf and kiss it goodnight every evening. The Fine Molds one is an 800+ piece model kit that you have to build one piece at a time.

Oh and by the way, where can one buy these master replicas like the Falcon Ady bought?! Anyone?

thanks !

The one Ady got is a kit from Fine Molds of Japan, who recently announced that it's officially discontinued and out of production, so whatever stock is floating around out there is the last of it. If you want one, be prepared for $300 easy. New & current $200 was the going rate.

Skyjedi makes a fantastic point about the ignore button, if you feel VINH doens't bring anything to the discussion, save yourself some annoyance and ignore him.

Why should I put him on ignore? It's fun watching him go out of his way to contribute only negativity. I keep wondering when he's going to implode in on himself.

And for all the bitching about the PT and Indy 4 that Sky does, at least he makes the occasional suggestion of how things could be different. VINH can't seem to get that far.

Of if they wanted to be really obvious that he was selfish, mean and egotistical, they could have called him "Vaderisnothayden Bane".

Seriously, what do comments like this really add to the discussion? You may not like VINH, or find him annoying, but it is still pretty lousy to just toss out insults like that.

It's called sarcasm. He doesn't contribute anything positive, all he does is complain, I'm just giving him a taste of his own medicine. And what makes it funnier is that he's so full of himself that he doesn't see it that way, and probably still won't even after reading this very post of me saying so.

Edit: And on the topic of Jaitea's audio work... just listened to it on my regular PC and I can now clearly hear the difference between "Luke" and the rest of the dialogue. That said, it's still a good effort -- better than what I turned out when I tried the same thing awhile back, at any rate.

The pronunciation and tone of Ian's voice works fine. What throws it off is that "Luke" needs to have the heavy echo/reverb atmosphere of the rest of the scene. Add that in and it should be pretty seamless.

Just out of curiousity, what are some examples of how Firefly doesn't connect properly?

I have only ever watched the episodes in the order in which they appear on the DVD, and other than all the loose plot threads that resulted from its being cancelled, the whole thing seemed to flow fairly smoothly.

They didn't connect on TV because Fox just showed the eps in whatever order they felt like, so when you watched the show, characters are referring to past events that haven't happened yet and supporting characters who died 3 weeks ago are showing up again like nothing happened. When you watch them in DVD order, everything makes sense because that's how they should have aired in the first place. Basic continuity logic that Fox either didn't know about or chose to ignore.

Stop moaning!!!

Stop acting like an arse.

Criticising something that deserves to be criticised isn't "moaning".

Me acting like an arse...Mate, you're bloody moaning about something that hasn't even happened yet, or if it's even going to happen.

You're the arse...all you ever do is bloody moan...Christ help anyone that actually has to live with you. You're worst than my missus, and that's saying something.

Lighten up man!!

Ditto. Skyjedi and VINH oughta get married.

Ah, another person who likes acting like an arse. Giving me unprovoked shit on the other thread wasn't enough for you?

You never answered my question in the other thread, just went into a whole diatribe on how wrong I was for even asking in the first place.

Who give who unprovoked shit?

Idea & Info: 'Watchmen - The Graphic Novel Cut'...
Time

It appears that 251 minutes was a typo on TheDigitalBits' part - the actual runtime is 215 minutes, or 3 hours, 35 minutes. Compared with the DC's 3 hours, 6 minutes, that's 29 minutes added - Tales of the Black Freighter is 38 minutes long, so that's 9 minutes cut from TOTBF, at the very least. Bear in mind that additional footage has been added to transition to and from Black Freighter.

So I guess it's not so much a cut-and-paste job, and they're actually cutting it to make it work within the story.

And seeing as how the final run time is about 3 and a half hours, which is what I was aiming for at the maximum, I will not be doing two versions - it will be just one, with Black Freighter intact.

I think this runtime news also means that none of Into the Hood has been cut into the "Ultimate Cut," as some had speculated.

Don't assume that all you'll have to do for your version is cut down extra stuff. Start by adding the extra pieces of Black Freighter back in where possible and filter Into The Hood in wherever you can too, then start your cut.

Idea: 'Star Wars - Droids' animated tv series - preservation ideas
Time

At the point where the tape stops, take it out and flip the cover up. See if the tape is physically wrinkled or damaged. That's probably what's stopping it. When you forward and rewind, the tape isn't wrapped around the head drum and into all the rollers, so the machine wouldn't complain when you're doing that.

Assuming that's the problem and you feel brave enough to get into some basic video tape surgery, you might be able to repair it. Unwind the section of tape onto the table. Put hopefully a single piece of scotch tape on the back of the damaged video tape section. Ideally, you should try to get scotch tape that's the same width as your tape, or at least very close to it. If it's wider, then you'll need a steady hand to trim the lateral edges. If it's thinner, you'll need a steady hand to trim the lateral edges after you've carefully applied the scotch tape as upper and lower halves.

If you need pictures to illustrate the procedure, let me know.
