Idea: Editing out helmet-less clones in AOTC and ROTS
Time
Reminds me of a conversation I had the other day. (OK, not really. But stay with me.)
"Hey, is there any conveivable way you can edit out the lightsabers in the OT? Those laser swords are just plain silly. Jedi should fight with ninja stars."

My first question to you is, why would you want to change such a huge plot point in the prequels? Sure we've got people like MagnoliaFan making their own edits of the prequels, but really, something like that seems a bit too far fetched.

Yes, it's probably possible to do something like that with an emmense amount of digital editing and patience. But is anyone ever going to try that? Probably not.

Anamorphic, definitely. Letterbox, maybe.

Dude, I swear I replied to you the day you sent that PM. Something's wrong with my account or something. I guess having 122 messages saved might be a problem.

On that note, CRAYON please turn on private messages in your profile, I can't reply to your message until you do.

Edit: Actually, I think I'm having the same problem with you DarkGruson. Please go to your profile and make sure the "Allow private messages" button is set to "on."

It is possible to encode your mpeg2 at 29.976fps interlaced, but it's not very efficient. Though some retail DVD's are done this way anyway. 24fps progressive video takes up 20% less space and the player can always do interlacing on the fly during playback.

The process of converting from 24fps progressive to NTSC 29.97 is known as telecining. The reverse process is known as inverse telecining or IVTC. There are many ways you can go about IVTCing your video stream once you've captured it off the laserdisc. Two of the more popular ways are (1) using AVISynth filters to do the job, and (2) using Virtualdub's manual IVTC settings. On my own personal projects, I've found using Virtualdub does a perfect job every time. As a rule of thumb, you usually want to run any dot crawl filtering before you IVTC. Most other filters do a better job on the progressive side.

Hey guys, I know we mentioned this a while back, but I wanted to bring it up again to see if anyone can help us out. A couple of us are in need of some extra hard drive space in order to get the video processing underway. We're looking to get two or three 100GB+ drives. If anyone out there lives in North America and could spare to lend us an extra hard drive, please PM me. I'm more than willing to pay for shipping.

Of course, that tme grows with teh bigger the project. And as far as compression, I think the Lagarith homepage underestimates the compression. I find ithe results to be about half the size of anything that Huffyuv does.

My only point was that it wouldn't make a good real-time capture codec. The only way it would be of use to us was if it reduced the file size considerably and didn't alter the video quality.

Info Wanted: How can I purchase the OOT preservation project DVDs?
Time
Welcome to the boards.

It would do you justice to read through the forum rules thread at the top of this forum. In doing so, you might read something like this:

Preservation Forum Rules

1. Do not offer bootlegs for sale.
2. Do not advertise sites that offer bootlegs for sale. Do not link to such sites or direct users to them.
3. Do not post direct links to downloads.

Unfortunately, discussion on selling bootlegs or where to buy such media is forbidden on this board.

There are many existing versions of the OT DVDs. You might want to poke around and decide for yourself which one you like best, then PM someone who's willing to make you a set for little to nothing in return, such as Rikter or Metallaxis. And if you haven't done it already, turn on the "allow private messages" feature in your profile to allow people to PM you.

Look back a few pages. The process of upscaling video to HD resolution has already been touched on briefly. In a nutshell, upscaling with today's scripting technology does add detail, albeit artificial. If all it did was repeat lines of resolution, there would be no point.

edit: lol, L is always one step ahead of me. I like his answer better.

First and foremost, all four of us will be working together on the official X0 version of the films. Whether that ever sees the light of day is still up in the air (since obviously we can't distribute it legally). Once that is done, I think Mebe and I will start working on our own versions. I can't tell you what the differences will be because at this early stage we honestly don't know.
