Wow wow wow! Thank you Adywan for having found this treasure. I can’t wait to see it.
Wow wow wow! Thank you Adywan for having found this treasure. I can’t wait to see it.
Thank you DVD-BOY.
To ‘compete’ is to call something a ‘competition’, no?
Indeed. Thus “not to compete” (as I wrote) is to call something a “no-competition”, no ?
Well, I don’t want to compete, and Chewie thinks too that it is silly to call this a competition.
So could you please stop talking about competition between Chewie and I, since Chewie and I agree that there is no competition? Both projects are different, with different sources, techniques, goals, results and even schedule (mine won’t be release before several months, while Chewies’ will probably be released within a few weeks).
If this “competition” is such an important matter, then please make a new thread about this crucial question, and let Chewie’s thread talking about Chewie’s project…
Plus: is there a competition between Williarob and Poita? DrDre and NeverarGreat? Derann and Puggo? Adywan and Harmy? The obvious answer is no.
So why would there be a competition between ChewieLewis and me?
PS : in my last PM with ChewieLewis, I offered to share my new sources with him as soon as they are sorted, cleaned and scanned. So no competition, OK?
Best of luck to both of you - the community benefits either way, and each creator get’s the level of satifaction that they want from their respective project.
I couldn’t agree more.
Seems silly to call this a competition.
Well, Luke’s face seems to be orange on your corrected shot, while it has a real skin tone on Yostuya’s shot.
Also on your shot, reactor hoods are pink, even the sky contains pink tones.
But I see your point: Luke’s jumpsuit is maybe not supposed to be as pink/purple as in the BR. Unfortunately, while trying to correct his jumpsuit, you probably introduce other errors.
(Should I mention that this kind of subtile correction needs a calibrated screen?)
It’s like a medical surgeon, our perception of a surgeon is someone that is quite careful which is true, but the reality can be very different that in order to do their job they pull people about and have to be quite rough with something to fix a major problem. Out come the Hammers and Saws to fix some things and it’s not so clinical but quite a rough and brutal process.
My process always starts out Brutal and then I reign it back in until I find the right amount of Brutal or how Brutal I should be. You said before that I over do it, which is correct, I do until I reign it back in to about the right amount.
I hope I will never be operated on by you 😃
Seriously, what you made here is not surgery, it is butchery…
Seems silly to call this a competition.
I agree. Who said “I want to be the first to release” ?
If there are any more sources out there that I don’t have I’d love to have them.
So do I.
BTW, your other project (https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/STAR-WARS-but-every-shot-comes-from-a-random-source/id/62778) is amazing. Thank you!
Well the offer I made in our private thread still stands.
Thanks Chewie, the offer I made in our private thread also still stands: you may use my rebuild HD scenes (if you want) as soon as they are done… but you’ll have to wait a few more months, which does not seem compatible with your agenda. I respect that.
Especially since my project is a bit more late than before because I tried to reorient my way of doing (new sources, new techniques, new schedule) so not to compete with you.
So once again: good luck. And I’ll be happy to discuss again with you about techniques, subtitles and weird sources in a private thread, so that I won’t pollute this public one anymore.
Well, giving my opinion and criticizing are two different things. I started my sentence with “IMHO” (but you forgot to take this part in my quotation).
Otherwise, you could also say that Schorman made some criticism when he disagreed about the shadow of the subtitles. But no, he didn’t criticize ChewieLewis, he just gave his opinion.
So, good luck to ChewieLewis, I sincerely mean it. That’s it.
OK, sure.
I’m just saying that actual 35mm are currently available (otherwise how could I use them)…Did you offer them to Chewielewis for use in this project? Or did he ask you if he could use them?
ChewieLewis and I had long discussions about how best to collaborate, but it turned out that we did not have the same idea of sharing at all, and our two projets are not the same at all (anyway, when we talked, ChewieLewis said that he didn’t want to make a full color regrading, while I told him that it was important to me and that I worked actively on my side on a shot-by-shot color regrading. I realize today that he obviously did not say everything about his project, or that he eventually took my ideas…)
However, we exchanged good advices, and it is not excluded, ultimately, that our two projects merge.
ChewieLewis absolutely wants to publish as soon as possible but, for my part, I need to take all the time that I think is necessary (for example time to find and import a 35mm scan with subtitles, which was not easy neither cheap) .
In short, I did not offer ChewieLewis to use my 35mm scan in his project - and I didn’t have that scan 2 months ago - as he did not offer me to use his “private” HDTV source for my project.
(I say this really without any reproach or disguised criticism: ChewieLewis was very cordial and correct in all the exchanges we had. Simply, it appeared that we do not pursue the same objectives at that time, these are things that happen …)
At the end of the day, if we come up with two quality projects, the entire OT community will benefit!
I don’t see why you’d just criticize his handling of the subtitles like that when you apparently have the solution in hand.
I certainly don’t criticize anything, I am simply referring to our private messages and I say that I hope he took into account my remarks made in private. where do you see a criticism ? I even wrote about subtitles “ChewieLewis is right: shadow goes down and right”. So no criticism from me.
OK, sure.
I’m just saying that actual 35mm are currently available (otherwise how could I use them)…
According to the 35mm scans that I have, ChewieLewis is right: shadow goes down and right (and it has a gradient shadow slightly shaded).
But it is not a standard font, and spacings are variable from one word to another.
IMHO, the only way to achieve a result similar to the theatrical subtitles, is by creating a specific font and then composing every word letter by letter (anyway, that’s what I did in my project). Otherwise, you’ll get a subtitle which is not the theatrical one (and so what is the point to add such a subtitle?)
Glad to read that you finally took into account some of my remarks (I hope you did for subtitles too) 😃
Good luck anyway with your forthcoming release.
oh so is the moon blue on your screen?
Isn’t it ?
I think this one is pretty close to the original real colors.
Anyway, I found a coloring book from 1977 (I was three) and it looks like this:
I’m pretty sure that you’ll find it by typing “schorman’s Star Wars LaserDisc Audio Archive” in the search box of MySpleen…

Worst to Best: Explained
#8 2001: A Space Odyssey
"I was utterly underwhelmed by “2001: A Space Odyssey” impressed solely by the world-making of the script—the delivery of a ready-made but minor mythology—but neither moved nor fascinated nor at all delighted by the filmmaking. Rather, I was shocked—that the director of “Dr Strangelove” could have constrained himself to create such a turgid, stilted, flat, and textureless movie.” -
The palette of Hollywood in the 60s, that had for the past few years been introducing avant-garde storytelling to a wider audience, now was doomed with the release of Kubrick’ original space-fantasy.
#7 & 6. Forrest Gump and Schindler’s List
“Gump” and “Schindler” had nothing parodistic; their absurd earnestness and the bombastic banality of their direction (by Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg, respectively) are a perfect match for the oppressive, hectoring John Williams and Alan Silvestri scores that accompanied them.”
Gump can’t decide if it is a serious movie or a silly one. It is sort of a mess with no solid conclusion, making a film that can’t really stand on its own.
Schindler’s List, while repeating many of the same mistakes, this is really where the idea of Schindler as a sympathetic character is developed.
The only redeeming quality of these films are the elements of Schindler’s redemption the introduced to the saga, a twist that made the films grow beyond mere “adventure films”. They really have nothing else to offer beyond this, save for some of Gump’s philosophical preaching.
#5 & #4. The Godfather II and The Godfather III
With The Godfather II and III, they’re both just okay. No strong feelings either way about them. They are not as imaginative as Coppola’ Godfather I, but there is considerable effort to address the legacy of a character like Vito Corleone. Even though that twist allowed for the beautiful tale Coppola created in his first episode, they did present a problem with the idea that only one family could really effect the destiny of this town. But with the new character of Michael Corleone, we have a character who is clearly a nobody in Episode III and we get to see him come to accept that he has no destiny. But, it is a strong message that he has to make her own destiny, and Michael, just like anyone, can make a real difference.#3 Dragonball Evolution

Indeed, if we adapt a work privately without making it public, the author will never know that this adaptation exists. But Copyright, theoretically, does forbid adaptation of a work without the prior consent of its author, no matter whether it is distributed or not.
JEDIT: it was already discussed here: https://originaltrilogy.com/post/id/1108834/action/topic#1108834:
Exclusive rights
There are six basic rights protected by copyright. The owner of copyright has the exclusive right to do and to authorize others to do the following:
- To reproduce the work in copies or phonorecords;
- To prepare derivative works based upon the work;
- To distribute copies or phonorecords of the work to the public by sale or other transfer of ownership, or by rental, lease, or lending;
- To publicly perform the work, in the case of literary, musical, dramatic, and choreographic works, pantomimes, and motion pictures and other audiovisual works;
- To publicly display the work, in the case of literary, musical, dramatic, and choreographic works, pantomimes, and pictorial, graphic, or sculptural works, including the individual images of a motion picture or other audiovisual work.
- To digitally transmit sound recordings by means of digital audio transmission.
A violation of any of the exclusive rights of the copyright holder is a copyright infringement, unless fair use (or a similar affirmative defense) applies.
(…)
Making a fan-edit interferes with point 2 of “exclusive rights”, however, if you made this fan-edit for yourself and you watch it only with your family, you’d have a very strong case that this is covered by “fair use” as you’re not interfering with anyones business. (See point 4 of fair use.)
You can do what you want, the issue is distribution.
No, you cannot. Copyright grants exclusive right to create derivative works (works that adapt the original work), except in a fair use context.
Every month, I share a rarity via my WeTransfer Plus account, for those who do not have a subscription to MySpleen or have difficulty finding some files.
Don’t forget that you must own the blu ray versions (or digital download) of the six Star Wars films to be able to acquire any HD preservation, such as Schorman’s projects.
If you are interested, just PM me and I’ll send you the WeTransfer links.
To get the links, you must have posted at least 10 messages dedicated to SW.
As someone was interested in Super 8mm scans, I also put those files on my WeTransfer Plus account :
Hi,
As someone asked me to share Puggo Strikes Back, I put the entire 16mm trilogy on my WeTransfer Plus account. For each movie, I made a DVD iso image (ready-to-burn) and a ZIP file.
I also added the Super8 scans.
So if anyone is interested, just PM me, tell me if you want the ISO image and/or the ZIP file (and for which movie), and I’ll send you the WeTransfer links.
To get the links, you must have posted at least 10 messages dedicated to SW.
I will disable the links on August 31, 2018.
bonus:
Puggo GRANDE
Puggo Strikes Back!
Return of the Pug
The Puggo Edition - Puggo’s Super8
Poita’s Super8
I also ziped it into a single ZIP file and put it on my WeTransfer Plus account.
Feel free to PM me if you want me to send you the WeTransfer link.
Didn’t make an actual DVD.
But loaded the video_ts folder as a disc in VLC and the DVD menu worked and I played bits of the 3 reels and extra features and it seemed fine.

I can assure you that there will be no missing frame!

The DVD cut really ruins the pacing with all the extra podracing stuff.
So true…
