Sure, we believe you...

Ackbar: You can see here the Death Star orbiting the forest Moon of Endor. Although the weapon systems on this Death Star are not yet
operational, the Death Star does have a strong defense mechanism. It is protected by an energy shield, which is generated from the
nearby forest Moon. The shield must be deactivated if any attack is to be attempted. Once the shield is down, our cruisers will create a perimeter, while the fighters fly into the superstructure and attempt to knock out the main reactor. It's basically a repeat of what we did at Yavin, except we're going all the way in this time and the special effects will be better. General Calrissian has volunteered to lead
the fighter attack.

I mean, obviously, you're not going to take credit for a war you didn't win. I'm referring more to the cause of the war. In our history books, it goes into a lot about how the Britains were essentially greedy despot bastards who took away our livelihood until we had no choice but to fight. I assumed that British textbooks referred to us as ungrateful upstarts or something like that.
My history teacher was excellent and we always examined events from all angles. I also took advanced level history, so it was probably a bit more detailed.

I don't believe history should be taught from any one point of view, and I spit on those who do so. (judging by my wife's knowledge of history, she was taught very badly).

Threepio is fluent in over six million forms of communication while the lost in space robot's repertoir seems to be limted to 'danger Will Robinson', so on thsoe grounds, threepio. But are we talking about the TV Lost in Space robot or the movie, because the movie one would destroy threepio. In fact, the TV one had pincers, so he could at least hold stuff, which is another advantage over threepio.

EDIT: Ricardo speaks wisdom, so I agree.

But like I said, conversion is a tricky one. Judging by prices of other goods in the UK compared to American prices, I would say that it equates to roughly $5 a gallon, which is still more expensive than here.

Why do the English pay more for gas than everywhere else? Mainly because of the taxman. almost 50 percent is fuel tax, plus there's a sales tax (which we in England call VAT - Value added tax) which stands at 17.5% on EVERYTHING we buy, including food.

Yes, it is an abominable place to live, at least for the working man.

This place is getting a bit 'chatty', but that's ok - at least our chat is on-topic. I had trouble using the IRC at my job in England. I guess I could use it now from this non-work computer, but I never tried. Maybe I will...

Chaltab, how's North Carolina? I've never been but it really appeals to me for some reason.

Ric, are you still planning on going to England? If you do let me know - I can arrange for some people to show you around.

Well, conversion is tricky, because from a bank currency exchange POV, one pound is worth about 1.85 dollars. But since I have been in the staes I can see that although my pounds almost doubled when I changed it into dollars, that doesn't neccesarily mean I am richer, because while a snickers bar might cost 50p in England, it costs about 85 cents here, so there's no real difference.

But from a bank perspective, Gas is about 1.85 a litre in the UK, and there are rougly 4 litres in a gallon, so we're talking $7.40 a gallon.

But you waited until you were out of college, didn't you?

I waited till I finished my Batchelors to go to the USA, but I done most of my European travelling before or during university. Czech Republic and Austria were Art College Trips, Italy I have been to with family, alone and also with my wife (Venice). France was also with family but I have been back since with friends. Turkey was with my wife (her idea actually, I didn't want to go). Greece was with friends when I was 18, and Holland (Amsterdam) was during University, also with friends. Canada (East Coast) was tagged onto my first USA trip and the West coast of Canada was tagged onto a subsequent visit to the USA. Slovenia, Germany, Switzerland and Belgium were all visited on the way to other places (driving across Europe).

P.S Double post - my bad.

You've been to a lot of places THX. Any favourites (or least favourites)?

Gaff, I have always been poor too, but I decided I just had to see the world. I saved and saved and saved, then sold my car, then took off. I came back penniless (thank God for parents letting me move back in with them), but I did find my wife on my travels, and now I live in the USA, so I guess it worked out. Still poor though...

In terms of funniness, loveability, originality, kindness, good-father-ness, things he's achieved or done in his life, popularity and yellowness, Homer wins hands down.

Okay, now a geeky one:

Han Solo in the Millenium Falcon Vs Captain Pickard in the Enterprise.

Both Men are allowed their crew (which in Han's case consists only of Chewie).

I actually wrote 'shit' but then realised I wasn't being fair and changed it to 'lame', but rather than delete 'shit' I added 'Lame', which meant I was now calling the movie 'shit lame' which it most definitely isn't. I think 'Lame' is fair though, so I edited my post. I'll stop talking now.

I think the next line is in the rebel meeting room, but if I'm wrong, sorry:

Han: Well look at you, a General, huh? (seems like any old scoundrel can become a General in the rebel alliance with little or no effort).

A comment by Gaffer in the Star Wars section reminded me that many Americans have never travelled outside of the US. Rather than get flamed for continuing to discuss this with Gaffer in a Star Wars thread, I decided to start this one.

So, in my life so far, I have been to (this list includes only places I have actually visited and spent time in, i.e not just a layover on an airplane):

England
France
Germany
Italy
Switzerland
Belgium
Austria
Czech Republic
Slovenia
Turkey
Holland
Greece
Canada
USA

In the USA, I have been to the following States:

California
Oregon
Washington
Arizona
Utah
Nevada
Idaho
Montana
Wyoming
Colorado
New Mexico
North Dakota
Minnesota
Iowa
Illinois
Virginia (plus WashIngton D.C)
Maryland
New Jersey
New York

What about the rest of you? Who else has never left their home country? If so, why not?
