I think we will be seeing Desmond again, as his love Penny is now on the top of Ben's hit list.

"I'm here to tell you that I'm going to kill your daughter...Penelope, is it? Once she's gone, dead, then you'll understand how I feel, ..." - Ben to Charles Widmore from the episode "The Shape of Things to Come"

And also Desmond is "the constant" of that scientist Daniel from the freighter, so he still has a role to play in the big picture.

Oh yeah, forget Ben said that...
We don't know what became of Daniel - he was on the motor-dingy when the freighter blew and the island vanished.
Speaking of this, not sure what I think of this island moving business. Hope they're not about to jump the shark.

It's funny you mention the motorcyclce chase & the graveyard sequences as those were the only two that parts of the movie that really FELT like Indiana Jones to me. I loved those parts of the movie. the rest varied from bland to outright awful.
Agreed. From meeting Mutt to getting captured in the graveyard felt like an Indiana Jones movie, and a pretty good one too.

You're kidding right? Take the sky during the scenes outside the warehouse at the start of the film - very fake looking. Yeah, it was a nice sunset or whatever but I don't understand why they couldn't just film outside a warehouse with a real sky.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion but sometimes I wonder if I was watching the same film as everyone else.

With England not playing my interest is lower than usual, but I do have an 8-game accumulator bet on that will win me a grand if it comes in... Portugal and Germany have already done well for me against Turkey and Poland respectively, so only 6 games to go... There's a few less sure-fire matches in there though but I'm still optimistic.

I nearly collapsed the other day when I bought my ticket and it was $10.00!

$9.00, $7.00, & $7.00 for the times I've seen it. All in the same theater, a big Regal with the stadium seating and super comfortable high-back chairs. Brought my own candy with me though - Indiana Jones Mint M&Ms. <--- No, I'm not kidding.
I'm not paying $5.00 for a bag of candy. That's too close to the cost of my ticket and more than I paid to park. Have one more bag in case I go again.
You've seen it 3 times? And are considering a 4th? Wow.

I liked how Lucas says "people will hate the film because they just will, because that happened on the prequels" and then Spielberg says "George speak for yourself"--apparently, Lucas still doens't get that the prequels were criticised because they fucking sucked.

But that's Lucas' point - are the prequels really as bad as people say they are, or do people THINK they're bad because of all the build-up to what fans were expecting over the years?

With each series - SW or Indy - you've got 20 years of familiarity and maturity in between there. No matter how hard you try, you're not looking at the new film thru the same eyes or with the same attitude as you did the originals, so naturally you're going to be more critical of it.

I'm not saying the PT or Crystal Skull are flawless - sure they have their rough spots, But are those the fault of the film making process or is the audience just better at finding the faults than they were 20 years ago?
NNo the prequels sucked. Indy 4 was bad compared to what had gone before but not terrible as a movie (I guess) so I take your point. But the prequels were just balls. And besides, a good filmmaker should be able to make a sequel (or prequel) that plays on and complements the film it is following, not completely go against the grain of your own creation, unless you are a) doing exactly that intentionally to turn things on their head because you're some kind of storytelling genius or b) retarded.

... But that Star Destroyer is probably the envy of every fan here, that doesnt look like a kit but more like a personal project of some sort (not like id know though, its just like the command centre looks like its waiting to be carved or somthing, am i right?). Just how big is that?

48 inches long.

That's awesome!!

Why go to all that bother though when you can just CG it? :P

My biggest beef with Skull is: what happened to peril on every page that is the hallmark of the previous films? Skull did not feel like a saturday morning serial, it felt like a mediocre Hollywood movie. Even in the quicksand (dry sand, whatever) it was just so hum-drum. Compare that to Indy's "We are going to die!" line in ToD and you see what I mean?

Yeah!! So true!

If they really wanted to do the whole 1950s ufo roswell thing they could have had the Russians believing what they were looking for was alien (some kind of artifact but not a lame plastic skull) but it turned out to be something else. Indy even said himself "Oh, c'mon! Saucer men from mars?!" I was really hoping the area 51/roswell angle would be a red herring and it would turn out to be something else that actually fitted into an indiana jones film but then they showed the alien corpse with it's head cut open in the tent and it was all over for me.

I think the prequels should have been made as to match the oot, the effects were to modern and flashy. since the timeline of the prequels predate the 1977 star wars the effects should have shown that.
And I maintain that if Lucas had done exactly that and turned out a retro sci-fi movie that looked like it was shot in the seventies with (high quality) puppets and models he would have received untold respect and acclaim.

I'm totally with canofhumdingers on this.

Apparently one of the main reasons it took so long to make this film was that Ford and Spielberg were not interested in the unsubtle depiction of alien invaders. "No way am I being in a Steve Spielberg movie like that," Ford told Lucas. Lucas wanted to call the new film 'Indiana Jones and the Saucer Men From Mars' but had his idea firmly rejected by Ford and Spielberg as the three men struggled to reach an agreement for around 10 years.

So what the hell changed?! because the film we got is pretty much exactly the same as the original Saucer Men draft written in the nineties.

So, what you saying Yoda man, Aliens don't exist or something??

;)

Mate, I'm all for aliens and I totally believe in them. X-Files is my all-time favourite TV show. But I'm pretty sure that when X-Files 2 comes out Mulder won't be wearing a fedora and using a whip. Aliens in Indiana Jones? Doesn't fit. It could have possibly been pulled off if done right (i.e. don';t actually show the aliens in acheap raiders rip-off ending, just hint at the possibility of aliens giving technology to an ancient civilisation).

One thing that did put a smile on my face was hearing two 10 year olds thinking "How awesome that film was". Just the way I felt after watching Raiders and Doom.

I have to admit that is pretty cool and has made me like the film a little bit more.
