Metallica - Death Magnetic
Time

Nah, they done 3 off the new album (all 3 were cool), but it was mainly oldies - Master of puppets, for who the bell tolls, Wherever I may roam, One… it was a good gig. They even played the title track from St Anger and it was ace (Hetfield made a joke about the album being much-loved).

My only complaint was the venue - it's such a soul-less, sterile, shopping mall sh1thole. It is the exact opposite of Rock n Roll, and seeing a band like Metallica there just doesn't work - venues like that are for people like Celine Dion.

Yeah, I hear ya Sean, but it was the early days of downloading and they just saw it as people stealing their music and earnings.  Downloading today is big business and part of the norm but back then it was different.  But yeah, Metallica and Lars in particular went down in my books too at that point.  But let's be bygones be bygones... I'm seeing them live tonight!

Any Star Wars TV stuff coming up?
Time

Did anybody see Bring Back Star Wars last night on channel 4?  For those of you who missed it, Justin Lee Collins attempted to interview all the main OT cast (Ford, Fisher, Hamill, Daniels, Baker, Williams, W Davis, Prowse, Mayhew, Bulloch) and reunite them at a party in London.  In the end he managed to talk to everyone except Ford and Hamill (Hamil wanted $50,000!) and Prowse, Baker, Davis and Bulloch showed for the party.  Carrie Fisher came across as really cool, so did Williams, and Warwick Davis is possible the nicest man in the world.  The show was also notable for the Holiday Special footage that was included!

Check it out if you can - it's interesting and funny.  You might be able to watch it on '4 on demand'.

How many times do you watch Star Wars (OT,OOT, GOUT) - over a period of time?
Time

Like Hotrod I've watched those films far too much in my life, but I haven't seen them for a few years now - I own the controversial theatrical cuts Lucasfilm released a couple of years ago but I haven't watched them yet because I'm trying to wait a few years so I can forget all teh PT na dspecial edition nonsense and just watch the OT in it's pure form and have my memories back :)

Sounds mad I know.

When and in what format was the first time you saw Star Wars?
Time

So basically your mum was a video pirate...

You still had a betamax player in the early 90s and 2000?!

I was born in '81, so my first viewing of Star Wras was on VHS, taped off the TV (it must have been around '85).  I loved those films and had all the action figures.  I remember my copy of Star Wars screwed up (in typical VHS Fashion - lines across the screen, lots of noise) at the point where the Commander is telling Vader that 'holding her is dangerous' and now I always expect the picture and sound to f*ck up at that point even if I'm watching it on DVD.

Eventually I grew up and sort of forgot about Star Wars, but then I rediscovered it in the early 90s when I was 12 or 13(watching the same dodgy VHS recordings) and enjoyed it on a whole other level and it's stuck with me ever since.

F*cking great movies.

I thought it could be the distant past too, but the structures in the distance seemed to be modern (to us) buildings with steel girders, etc. Atlantis was supposed to be highly advanced though, so I guess that would fit. I hope it's not Atlantis though, that would be lame.

The way I imagine it, the 12 colonies came from the Earth of our distant past. Sometime during their absence we lost the technology they used to leave Earth, regressed scientifically and socially, and then destroyed ourselves. The colonists have now returned, thousands of years later.

Of course, neither of those theories explain why there was a VW Beetle on Caprica in one of the resistance episodes...

THEY HAVE YET TO REVEAL THE 5th CYLON.

The thing with that is I don't really care anymore - now that we have a truce between Cylons and Humans and Tigh/Anders/Tyrol/Torrie have been more or less let off the hook it doesn't really matter who the 5th is as the threat to both the fleet and the 5th Cylon has been neutralised.

Although... how did Baltar survive the destruction of Caprica? We saw him engulfed in the explosion. Surely he is a Cylon?

Any time. Comments one way or the other?

Interesting read. Seems to me that the Republic/Jedi were in the business of 'purging' threats... maybe the Sith deseved their revenge.

Thanks Silicon. So wait... there are only ever 2 sith? Just two?

When Yoda said 'always 2 there are' in TPM I thought he was just saying 'If there's one, there's another out there somewhere'. I didn't realise there were ONLY ever 2 in the whole universe at any one time.

The prequels really didn't explain what a sith was, why there were only 2 of them, or what they wanted revenge for...
