Empire of Dreams - what was your imagined Star Wars story...
Time
My dream prequel would have been called Star Wars Kids: The young Han, Luke and Leia chronicles, and would have had our 3 heroes (plus the occassional appearence of little chewie) as 8 year olds getting mixed up in all kinds of wacky adventures. Of course, in the last episode they all get their memories wiped in time for a new hope.

Any adventure suggestions anyone?

Seriously though, I imagined the prequels to be of a more similar tone and style to the OT, probably because it would have been made in the 80s or early 90s, and would have featured a young Obi Wan and Anakin as principle characters, like the actual prequels. The kickass lightsaber fights were there too, but nothing else. I don't give a crap about Boba Fett, never did, and any mysterious coolness he once had is lost forever now anyway.

Hayden replacing Sebastian Shaw in ROTJ
Time
Personally, I don't have a huge problem with Christenssen's insertion at the end of ROTJ (I understand your gripes, but it doesn't bother me so much). Maybe this is because when I first learned that Hayden was going to replace Shaw at the end of Jedi, I thought they meant that he was going to be aged with make up and proshethics and inserted into Vader's helmet removal/death scene, so when it was just his ghost, I was happy. The moral is it could have been much worse, so be thankful.

I'm not saying anyone's right or wrong, and I'm at work, so I can't check, but surely if Alien was made in 1979, 1 year before ESB and 2 years after ANH, and you say ANH and ESB have the same logo, why would Alien have a logo that came out later (i.e at the time of ROTJ)

Even if I'm wrong, I'd back up Molly just 'cos.

Does anyone have 'The Omen' or 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' on DVD? If so, please check the logos.

Thanks Sessler. It looks like you are the man to come to for high res images, which brings me to my next request...
(sorry to keep bugging you - this will be the last thing I ask for - but you are extremely helpful and I am very very grateful).

Do you have high res versions of Spidernap's OT covers? I'm having trouble attaching pictures so here's a link to his original post, in case you don't know what I'm talking about:

Agreed. And ILMs standards seem to be slipping. The Hulk, for example, and The Scorpion King. Weta on the other hand... You know that when the news that the Lord Of The Rings was going to be made into a movie started to spread, George and ILM sat back and waited for the phonecall...But it never came. When you are the best of the best you get complacent and then somebody comes and steals your crown. I work in the industry and I have a friend who used to work at ILM and he worked on Episode 1 but quit soon after and came to work in London - I said to him 'you quit ILM, are you mad?!' and he said it's not what it used to be.

Yeah, Jackson used CGI when necessary, and only when necessary. Having said that, all this dissing of George Lucas aside, he is a pioneer. He changed the way films were made in the seventies and he's pushing the boundaries still in the digital age. It's bound to not work all the time, but without people like George Lucas, we'd never know. After listening to the DVD commentaries, he's gone up in my books. And listening to Irvin Kershner was a joy.

Right on Mike!! I would kill for a copy of your SW Trilogy restoration, although you keep saying it's for you only, so that's a shame. Anyway, I was checking out your site and you siad you stuck with the new 2oth Century Fox Logo because the one at the start of Star Wars is degraded and looks crummy compared to the new lucasfilm logo and opening crawl that you've made. But can't you just grab the old Fox logo from any fox movie that is not so deteriorated?

True, but they managed a fairly decent marriage of the two in the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy.

This relates to something i've been pondering recently - By the time of the OT, are all Storm Troopers still Jango Fett clones, or has the empire started recruiting/enlisting? While Obi Wan is messing with the tractor beam on the death star we hear 2 troopers talking about a new landspeeder model on the market, just like a couple of regular joes, not purpose built clones. What does everyone else think? Ordinary people joined the Nazis during the war, why not the empire? You would get to see the galaxy, you wouldn't run the risk of them killing you cos you're one of them, and I bet they have a great retirement plan...

Yeah, I was definitely gonna remove the Special Edition text, and the release date text too. And yeah, having another look at the ROTJ poster, I think Luke's blaster can go because it does seem to just be stuck there doesn't it?, but I don't want to mess with Drew's Art anymore really. I'm pretty confident he'll do an Ep3 poster. I'm gonna get seriously searching for some high res images without any text. I can photoshop the text out, but textless images would give me a lot more freedom in positioning the movie titles etc.

But then this forum wasn't created to make the best looking version, it was created so that people might use it in their efforts to create the best possible preservation. And this project does not fall into that category.

I take your point, but let's say that the OT DVDs which were recently released had actually been the ORIGINAL trilogy and not some super duper 2004 special edition, are you saying that you would not want Lucas to at least fix the lightsabers and stuff? I understand the hatred of all the CG and all that other crap, but what's wrong with fixing the colour bance and the lightsabers (nothing else though).

This is what I thought too - it's just unfortunate timing that the Stormtrooper comlink coincides with the stormtrooper banging his head.

Trust me, you have already seen Struzan's work whether you're aware of it or not, and seeing as his artwork for star wars has been used officially in the past, I can't understand why it wasn't used for the DVDs.

http://home.scarlet.be/~bliek/s-posters.htm

http://www.drewstruzan.com/portfolio/

These are my currents problems/queries with my Struzan DVD covers:

Should I use the Star wars Episode I style title for all 6 movies (I'm assuming that Drew will do an Ep3 poster, if not I'm screwed) or stick with Drew's original title art for the OT (which calls the first film Strat Wars, not Ep4 A New Hope). This would mean an inconsistency between the 6 covers, but maybe a definition between the PT and OT is acceptable. Any suggestions?

Finding high res versions of the images is quite hard. I have the original posters, but I don't have an A1 flatbed scanner so I have to find a way around that one.

If I could get hold of scans of Drew's original artwork without any of the text, that would rock.

I'm thinking of sticking with the spine's from the current DVDs - I personally don't have a problem with them - does anyone have any objections for me to consider?

This really should be in the preservation thread....

That's far from the truth. Take a gander into the "OT Preservation" thread.
Since LFL won't help us, we're taking upon ourselves to preserve the O-OT as best we can. Lot's of people are putting in a LOT of hard work, as well as money.
Even those who don't have groundbreaking DVD technology have done other things such as distributing these discs to those who want them, and even designing many DVD covers for these rips.
I, myself have made quite a few DVD covers and I am only equipped with Microsoft Paint.

Granted, there a few unconstructive citizens of OT.com that just troll around posting negatory remarks. (such as yourself, perhaps)

You can think of us how you wish, but don't let it be because we're "whiners".

Point taken, and I apologise for offending you. Actually, I'm working on some DVD covers for the prequels and OT using Drew Struzan artwork. I think he's one of the best movie poster artists there ever was.
