Yes, TESB is the least offensive of the special editions (until 2004 when they added Ian McD and it became sickening) and the cloud city windows are one of the few changes I am actually quite fond of, for the reason Adam mentions. I'm glad you enjoyed it Adam - Lapti Nek is much more subtle and in the background than Jedi Rocks, which may as well have had an MTV logo in the corner and a message at the end saying 'we now return to our feature presentation'. I think you'll like it - let us know.

To be fair, Kev and AWK are both around Emma Watson's age, so it's ok for them to like her (it also seemed ok for the quidditch champ character in the movie to take her to the dance despite looking about 30, but I digress). Either way, guys, she's your age, so cool, but I've got 10 years on her so how about not posting those pics?

As for the french chick, ooh la la. When I was watching the movie, I thoroughly enjoyed the scenes she was in.

Anyone who is having trouble with paypal for whatever reason, do what Dayv said - e-mail him for Rikter's postal address. It would have been good if Lando died. As it stands, he fucked over his buddy han, then gets welcomed into the rebellion, saves the day and gets to dance with ewoks. Lando redeeming himself in death and Han mourning his old buddy would have been much better. Could have even had han examining a piece of tehn falcon wreckage or something - I remeber feeling really sad when Marty was pouring over the trashed delorean at the end of BTTF3 because, like the falcon, it was a character of it's own.

Seriously, he has changed it. Anyway, everyone's getting pissed at us for discussing this (even though this is how the thread has developed and sometimes you gota just accept that a thread has taken a new direction), so I'm gonna end this debate - it's called Star Wars. I think all this debate has really achieved is highlighting the stupidity and ridiculousness of retitling and reediting your fuilms to fit you current (or 'original') vision. It's bullshit and it detracts from the films by fueling stupid debates like this one. It is just so, so gay.

I don't have a problem with it either. I think it's sad and ridiculous, but I don't have a problem with it. I just find it hard to call it 'A New Hope' when it was fed to me, by Lucas himself, as 'Star Wars' for 2 decades, and as a result I will probably always think of it as 'Star Wars'. As for 'A Neo Hope', well, I would just laugh at the Watchowskis and say 'ah, bless 'em. Dang fools', which is pretty much my take of Georgie Lucas.

OK, so, let's say that next year, the Watchowskis, jealous that Lucas managed to go 20 years before destroying his legacy while they done it in 4, decide that in order to sell more Matrix boxsets, they will change the title of the first matrix film to The Matrix Episode 1: A Neo Hope. However, they also decide that in order to not piss the fans off too much, this title will only appear in the movie intro itself, and not on the actual packaging. Are you seriously telling me that you would adopt that title, or would you still refer to the film as 'The Matrix'? Be honest now.

"The Star Wars" referred to the entire six-part movie. OK, now we shall move this to the general thread.

Look, I am going to give this debate a big fat 'Whatever'. Adam, what you are saying is correct - as part of a saga, the original movie is subtitled A New Hope, and Lucas made this change very early on and probably intended it all along but wasn't allowed because the distributer thought it would confuse viewers. This is one piece of Lucas history telling that I actually believe. However, I have a number of VHS releases at home that clearly say 'Star Wars' on the front cover, with absolutely no mention of Episode 4 or A New Hope, including, Adam, the '97 special editions that introduced you to the original trilogy. The film was released in theatres in '77 under the name 'Star Wars'. It was rereleased a number of times throughout the late 70s and 80s under the name 'Star Wars'. It was released on home video and leaserdisc countless times throughout the 80s and 90s under the name 'Star Wars'. It was released cinematically with new special effects in 1997 under the name 'Star War'. This special edition was then released on VHS and laserdisc under the name 'Star Wars' in 1998. It wasn't until 1999, the year TPM came out, that lucasfilm really started to tout this' new hope' thing, and the 2004 DVD is the first official release that has carried the 'ANH' moniker on the packaging. Lucas may be able to alter his movies and deny the originals. but unless he plans on coming into my home and burning my store bought Star Wars VHS, there is no denying that the film was, in fact, called 'Star Wars'.

OK, I saw this last night. I have seen all the movies and read none of the books, although I intend to now, before the 5th Potter movie comes out. As a casual Potter movie watcher rather than a seasoned fan of the books, I can confirm that much of the deeper plot points were lost on me, and I sometimes have a hard time keeping up with who is who, but that doesn't stop me enjoying the movie, so I guess these films are perfect in that they satisfy the fans and the casual viewer. As for the effects...Fantastic. I actually used to work for Framestore, who done a lot of the CGI for this movie, and I had the script and storyboards for this fourth film before the third was evn in theatres, and I was mighty, mighty impressed by what I saw last night. I don't know what it was, but even though I was looking at dragons and ghosts and flying horses, it looked somehow believable, and it dicked all over the effects in Star Wars 3. The moment when I most thought to myself 'shit, these effects rock' was when the dragon was chasing Harry and trying to get to him on the rooftop, knocking off tiles and breaking bricks.

Nope. As U.S. law currently stands, a President can only be a person born in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Nobody born outside the U.S., including those who have rescinded their citizenship or had their citizenship rescinded by their native country, can be president of the U.S.

'Tis the law. Governors are a different thing. Just need to have a certain time period of legal citizenship.

Yeah yEah, we know, but I can totally see an amendment happening. Anyway, what's to say somebody born in the States has more right to be president than somebody who moved to the country at a young age and has lived there for decades? Isn't that kind of going against the whole American dream ethos? Personally, I don't actually care that much, I'm just saying - these days, does somebody really need to exit their mother's womb in America to BE an American?

Attention all members!

A few days ago PSYCHO_DAYV bought something to our attention.

As some of you might know, Rikter’s daughter has had quite a few health problems, and the bills have skyrocketed. It would be great if all of us could send him anywhere from $5-$10 each. I know that it doesn't sound like much, but together it could be a great blessing to him and his family.

I have volunteered to be the middle-man in this little Christmas present for Rikter, so if anybody is interested, they can donate via Paypal to me at ‘mattfitch at hot mail dotcom’ and i will forward the total to Rik on behalf of his friends at OT.com and send him a little spark of hope.

The thing is, I'm going away for the holidays, so there will have to be a deadline for donations, say December 21st? That gives us exactly one week to get all the donations in.
