V for Vendetta

Chaltab:

First off, when they say "big government" they are referring to the power and the reach of the particular government, not necesarily it's size. Also, "Conservatives" don't say big government is bad, but rather a lot of "Republicans" do. They aren't necessarily one and the same. A lot of people who think "big government is bad" vote republican simply because they want to make as much money as possible, and don't want the government interfering with tax codes, epa stadards, workers safety, ect. They could care less about a lot of the "values" associated with the Conservative agenda. As for the Patriot Act, it's exactly 100% what V for Vendetta is talking about.

Fear of Flying
Time
Ric, your fear of flying doesn't have anything to do with the possibily of SNAKES being on the plane, does it?

I absolutely loathe flying, and will only do it as a last resort. I'd much rather drive 800 miles than fly. I have a tiny bit of fear of it (basically due to you having no control if anything happens), but rather I hate it because it's just one huge pain in the ass. Lost luggage, waiting around crowded and dirty airports, brats kicking your seat, ect ect.

Question, what does John 3-16 says, on the Bible? I mean I could go and look it up on the web but...

I'm pretty sure it's "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son."

Happy birthday.

The whole John 3:16 is to me, the guy in the rainbow wig at the football games holding a John 3:16 sign.
I guess he wanted everyone to know my Birtday Thus years later Austin 3:16 was born, letting everyone in Austin Texas know about my B-Day

Honestly, when I saw the 3:16 the first thing through my silly mind was "can I get a hell yeah?"

I'm no expert, but I believe the idea of getting celebrities to join isn't to get their money (although I'm sure they freely donate it). I think the idea was to seduce celebrities by automatically promoting them to the higher "levels" of the religion. This, inturn, would attract your average person hoping for some sort of comraderie with so-called celebrities, although your average person would have to pay along the line to get there (and most likely wouldn't ever reach it).

Brian Gumble

I hate Bryant Gumbo as much as the next guy. However, while I think his "no black athletes" argument is silly, I agree 100% that the majority of the athletes at the winter olympics ARE NOT the best athletes in the world. You heard me, they aren't. Or even close. I base this on the fact that a MILLIONTH of a percent of the world's population (black, white, pink, green, ect) never have, and never will have, access to these particular sports. Whereas a far greater number of the world's population will, at some point in their lifetime, have access to a soccer ball, or a baseball, or a basketball. I'm not saying that these particular sports contain the best athletes in the world, or are the best sports in and of themselves. What I am saying, is that there is at least a system where hundreds of millions of people worldwide play these, and the best of the best are able to progress while everyone else is weeded out. I'll take someone who was able to beat out millions of others in their sport over some fucking guy who was able to beat the other thousand or so luge guys who are apparently out there.

What scene in the (O-)OT do you hate/dislike the most?
Time
I'm guessing your referring to the Executor crashing into the Death Star. I suppose the biggest reason I don't like it is that the shot lingers too long. While the other two films used similiar tricks with models (and in a probably even more amateurish fashion), but with good camerawork and editing, they were able to pull them off. In this particular shot, the scale seems wrong and they both look like models, at least moreso than any other shot I can think of. And don't get me started on the "out of control barbeque" flame that comes out of the Death Star that the camera seems to stay on way too long. I think some faster cuts or a different angle might have worked better.

Indiana Jones 4

...and she's got great cans. While I'm on the "never gonna happen" bandwagon, one thing in particular that is bothering me (along with the usual qualms) is that Kaminski is on board to be the DP. Don't get me wrong, the guy does great work, but I just don't see his style working well with this movie. I find his work harder and harder to watch with each movie, so it goes without saying that Indy 4 would look nothing like originals from a film stock standpoint. Not to mention, if they film anything in a desert, all you'll see is a big white blur on screen.

Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time
To say Microsoft rushed the 360 would be the video game understatement of the century. BUT, to think that the PS3 is anywhere near being ready (or isn't going to suffer the same shortages and problems as the 360) is incredibly foolish. It's become clear in the aftermath of the 360 launch that Microsoft didn't intentionally create shortages, rather they simply kept with their launch window knowing full well that they couldn't possibly meet any sort of demand schedule. With this generation, basically everything is going to take longer. There's not going to be a PS3 before christmas of next year, nor is there going to be a Halo 3 in 2006. Xbox 360 games like Gears of War are going to see huge delays, and the PS3's launch games like MGS4 will be seen as "underwhelming" when compared to the pre-rendered trailers. Welcome to world of hype.

(sorry for the rant)
