My review of Episode III (minor, minor spoilers)
Time
I pretty much agree with everything you said. I was somewhat encouraged by it, so I'll post my review here. I agree that the HD camera looked much better and more natural this time around. Characters blended into the CGI backrounds much better. Overall the CGI was good, but still too video-gamey at times - a lot of the scenes were over the top. While some of the dialogue was laughable, overall I thought it was infinitely better than the first two prequels. My favorite parts were actually the exposition scenes in the middle, even though Anakin's turn seemed rushed. The only problem I had with Anakin's character is that his personality is nothing like Vader's. In the OT, Vader is relaxed, methodical - always in control. In this, he's all over the place. Maybe 20 years of doing nothing chilled him out a bit for the OT? And yeah, Grievous was pointless.

Anyway, it was better than I expected.

Which did you prefer, the SE or the 2004 DVD edition?
Time
I haven't watched the 2004 SE's other than the changes. While I detest both SE's, it probably goes something like this for me:

2004 ANH > '97 ANH *("better" looking Jabba, improved lightsabers, "better" Han/Greedo)

'97 ESB > 2004 ESB (While I don't mind the inclusion of IM, I don't like the dialogue)

'97 ROTJ > 2004 ROTJ (I'll never understand the inclusion of HC at the end)

Therefore, I prefer the '97 SE's.

* better = less crappy

Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time
I totally agree, Chaltab. Perfect Dark didn't impress me at all. To me, it didn't look any better than Halo 2 save for a few textures. A lot of the other games looked sweet, but they seemed to all be cutscenes so it's hard to tell. What really got me is while watching it, my tv screen got all black, and then the Halo theme song started playing. I seriously got goosebumps but then it just turned out to be an ad for a Samsung tv.

Blu-Ray & HD-DVD development
Time
Although I'm going to take a wait-and-see approach to the next generation of dvd's, I really hope the unification happens. I have some questions though:

-How much of an improvement will it be over current top-tier transfers, like LOTR, SW PT, Matrix, ect?

-How will older films (with scratches and faded/grainy film) look? Can they really take something 25 years old and make it look better?

edit: By the way, good thread, Darth Simon. I think the old one was started and frequented by that which shall remain nameless.

A question in regards to Samuel L. Jackson
Time
During the filming of AOTC, N'sync was allowed to visit the set in Australia while they were filming the arena battle. It gets a little fuzzy here, but they ended up dressing up as arena Jedi and being filmed. This isn't a rumor, but there were plenty of rumors as to why they were there. Given that the arena Jedi were nothing more than LFL employees, I'm not surprised. Anyway, their footage ended up 'not being used'.

GL may think he's a perfectionist, but I beg to differ. If he truly were a perfectionist, he wouldn't have made such crappy prequels! (hardy har har) But seriously, look at all the awful wigs, beards, merkins, ect because he insists on doing reshoots 8 months after filming has wrapped. Plus, he's more than happy to appease people when they want cameos. Remember N'sync?! Perfectionist, I think not.

Back to the Future & Time Travel
Time
Good thread! Although I agree with Chaltab that thinking too much about the implications of time travel is enough to drive a guy nuts. Anyway, I brought up 12 Monkeys, and if I'm wrong about anything, please feel free to correct me. But the way I saw it, there is only one timeline, with no possible offshoots/branches, unlike BTTF, Terminator, Bill and Ted, Timecop, ect. Bruce Willis isn't sent back to change the past, implying that it isn't possible. He was sent back to the past to determine where the virus originated and other relevant details, so that they can effectively fight it in the present (that being 2019 or whatever). I just thought it was clever and unique.

I'm glad SLJ is in the PT. However, I too think he is underused and isn't given enough to do. Another nitpick, is that I don't like his (or probably GL's) approach to the character. I know it's SW and that they speak with a 'classic' dialect, and that Mace is supposed to be this stoic Jedi master, but I still wish he were more lively and earthy. SLJ's best acting usually comes when he's allowed to be animated and intense. I'm not saying he has to be Jules, but he comes off as too wooden in the PT. There should have been a middle ground somewhere.

Anakin's fall - did it really need three films or could it have been done in one?
Time
That's an excellent idea, HS vs IJ. However, I can forgive having Anakin as a child in Ep 1. Where they lost me was Ep II, which was basically a waste when it comes to Anakin's storyline (as well a waste when it comes to almost everything else). Just my opinion, but instead of basically having the 'love story' be one movie (Ep II) and his fall be the other (Ep III) they should have combined the two but had them both develope simultaneously over the course of both movies.

Just one idea, but I would have had Anakin and Padme familiar with one another right from the beginning of Ep II. Anakin would be Padme's bodyguard, and they would have a professional relationship in front of people, but would flirt/kiss when nobody was around.
