Jake had done some conventions before his current mental health problems caught up with him.

They wear thongs out in the desert? All that Tatooine sand trapped between the toes and under the nails…

Thongs with jeans look so bad.

Are thongs and sandals the same thing? I’m totally lost here.

Oh right, in America you call those skimpy underwear bottoms thongs. Weirdos. I think that what we normal people call thongs you call “flip-flops.”

Probably because the underwear looks like sandals for your butt.

Annoyingly, a hair got into the gate of the scanner on Reel3, and I have to rescan the entire reel.

Part of the downside of working remotely.

sigh

Anyway, here is a 720P sample, complete with dancing hair, nothing done other than a very quick levels setting, thought people might want to see it in motion.

Note the Technicolor-style cue-dots/reel markers at the end. It’s about 200MB in size, I tried to make the file size small enough for anyone to get a look at it.

A higher bitrate and bit-depth version is uploading now for those who want something bigger.

EDIT: It’s up. 1.5GB. https://we.tl/SxaAFMqUAg

Man, that CG is so jarring. It’s way more so here than on the Blu Ray.

Disney to buy 20th (21st) Century Fox? (Disney has now bought them - 14 Dec '17)

I’m kind of shocked that some of you guys are more excited by the prospect of this allowing Star Wars/Superhero movie rights to be cleaned up rather than horrified at how this shows that it’s within Disney’s power to own more than half of the studios producing mainstream movies. Hopefully this won’t fall through.

It’s definitely a concern of mine, but the prospect of an official release of the OUT is clouding my judgement.

From what I’ve read (this I believe: https://theasc.com/magazine/starwars/articles/sped/uni/pg1.htm) is that it was too expensive to do the whole thing using a DI at that point, so only the shots that were digitally altered (including recomposites) were done at 2k then filmed out to be assembled into the negative. Everything else was a photochemical restoration.

Should color timing differences be included? I feel like that would include every modern reissue of a catalog title at this point, and for most all we have to go on is old video masters anyway, with no way of knowing if those old masters were accurate either.

I feel like the list should only include content changes, not different color timing or other too-nebulous-to-properly-codify things.

I’m inclined to agree, but to a point it comes off as seriously revisionist. When it’s something like a slight CC (such as the amount of yellow in Raiders), I feel like that’s just a mastering thing. But when It’s a major point of contention, or a result of improper handling of a negative, that it should be addressed.

For the time being, unless I am convinced otherwise, I think I’ll leave off The Road Warrior but include Do the Right Thing.

IIRC, it’s the night scene outside the slave quarters where Qui Gon gets the blood sample from Anakin.

Right!
And IIRC, that explains why this particular shot has a totally different contrast level on BR than on theatrical 35mm: it was the only scene digitally re-rendered for the BluRay without going through a 35mm scan.

It’s more noticeable on the DVD. The majority of the DVD transfer if quite grainy, but this shot is exceptionally clean.

There are differences between the 2003 DVD and 2010 Blu-ray versions of ALIEN: The Director’s Cut:

As the sun rises over LV-426, three helmet lights (representing the astronauts) have now been added, as they make their way round a large rock formation (for the 2010 Blu-ray).

The CGI mist that drifts past the derelict entrance as the three astronauts enter, is now missing from the 2010 Blu-ray.

Alternate take used for the insert shot of the Alien, just before Brett is attacked (for the 2010 Blu-ray).

Not sure about this last one, but the radio static (added for the 2003 DC) heard as Ripley uses the wall com to contact Parker or Lambert - after a confrontation with Ash - may or may not be missing from the 2010 Blu-ray?

I’ll add these but could I get some screenshots or something I can link to?
