using the dcp would someone be willing to do a color correction as well as fixing the dirt and scratches as well if  no one is willing to do dirt and scratches fix i understand.

I might just be imagining it, but the color-corrected DCP seems to have brought out some compression artifacts, mostly in the left half of the frame.

THX 1138 "preservations" + the 'THX 1138 Italian Cut' project (Released)

Easiest way would be to output the Bluray via composite video and capture that, or run the composite video into an old VCR and record it, then capture *that*.

The 'hardware' downgrading will do most of the work for you.

It's not exactly what I would call easy. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the only BD device that can output composite are older models of the PS3. So in order to do what you are suggesting, you would need one of those older models.

If there are any differences on the audio tracks on each VHS copy, then it might certainly be interesting to include them.

I still have a VHS copy of the Special Longer Version in German and I'd like to offer its audio track if you're interested. It was released around 1997 and was digitally remastered. On the case it says: Hi-Fi Stereo Dolby Surround Mono Compatible.

I don't see 2 US VHS releases have any audio differences.  I was referring to using a median of say 3 like video captures for footage needed to complete a higher res restoration for better detail and such.

Having a German video might help the picture quality from a median of four if done right.

Is the German version fullscreen or wide?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the actual release using the Director's Edition deleted scenes combined with a down-scaled HDTV airing of the theatrical? I mean that alone is significantly better than anything you could get with VHS or Laserdisc.

team negative1 - star wars 1977 - 35mm theatrical version (Released)

Maybe there is some way to combine them. But why? The Bluray already has the most detail overall.

Maybe someone can run the Diff tool on the current ones to check.

Team Negative1

I think he means something like using the 2011/2004 until there's a change, then using 35mm. Essentially a top-quality Despecialized.

I was very fortunate, I suppose, to have seen SotS as a kid in '87. :P

I managed to find a copy online to watch a couple months ago. The quality wasn't HD or anything, but it was serviceable. I honestly found it a beautiful movie; those who call it racist are either overtly-sensitive members of the PC police or haven't even seen the movie in the first place.

Damn straight. We don't need no stinkin' SJWs!

I could get angry at the sheer perversity in this thread but then I remember this forum has a 36-page, nine-year-long topic devoted to restoring Song of the South and this doesn't seem so bad.

I don't see what's wrong with SotS. Yes, it has an inaccurate portrayal of Reconstruction-era formerly-enslaved-but-now-battling-Jim-Crow African-Americans, but it also helps pass on important African-American Uncle Remus folktales and I can't imagine a child forming a negative opinion (or any opinion for that matter) of African-Americans from this at all.

Really, all a proper release would need would be an introduction explaining it and maybe a new MPAA rating.

Oh shut the fuck up already.

Whose fault is that we no longer have any film negatives that exist to restore the OT again? That we have to resort to secondary sources for restoring ONE OF THE LARGEST FRANCHISES IN MOVIE HISTORY?

You can't control what Lucas has done.  You can control what you are doing...so stop posting the same thing over and over, and stop posting offensive things.

Hey, at least he's consistent, we can give him that.
