So the organ is being not loading correctly for me, so as soon as the site is back up, I will upload this.

Okay, Star Wars is done. I still need to upload it to a certain site and I can’t tell with absolute certainty that the audio is in sync properly. The deinterlace filter that I have added introduced a little bit of aliasing, but it’s not super bad. The audio is also not the greatest quality. I can’t really explain it, but it sounds like I tried to make it louder and made it all crackly as a result. Update: The audio and video for Star Wars has been captured. Video is being compressed as I type this. I captured audio and video separately in hopes that I could sync audio better. If all goes well, hopefully this one will be done by tonight.

If I can figure out DVD authoring, sure. Most likely just AVI files, but I don’t know at this point. I began capturing Star Wars today, but at this point only have video.

1:56:13 matte painting extension is still there, as well as the recomped explosion.

2:00:00 occasional film damage/dirt around Shaw’s face Nothing too terrible.

2:02:13 quite a bit of film damage on the Death Star explosion.

2:04:36 ships flicker in and out of existence.

Quite a bit of noticeable gate weave whenever 35MM shots are occurring.

This, plus what I already pointed out, are all I noticed in a quick look over the film. I didn’t watch the entire thing, just skipped around to the areas with the most prominent SE changes. Overall, this is a ridiculously huge improvement over 1.0.

In response to this edit, yes, an SE change that slips in should be reported, not sure if it is a “glitch” or not in this context, but it would be a must fix for this sort of release.

All I’ve noticed so far are some recomps left in. I won’t point them out since they’re not noticeable unless your going along with the complete changes photos.

Recomps should be noted, as long as they aren’t screen wipes, I believe.

I also want to add that DAMN! That 35MM fotage looks wonderful! The stuff at the Sarlacc pit is astoundingly good looking.

At about 27:37, subtitle for “Bring Solo and the Wookie” is missing.

Alright. The current plan is to start these Wednesdays after my finals are done and over with. In the future, I will also probably capture the Letterboxed 97 Trilogy, the letterboxed TPM tape and, if I get around to picking it up, the pan and scan 97 trilogy.

Quick question: When are you guys going to be wanting these by?

Absolutely. I grew up with these tapes too so those are a part of the complete experience for me.

Over the next two weeks or so I will be capturing the 1995 Faces trilogy. These will be simple quick and dirty captures taking from a standard 4-head VCR, captured using a USB capture device. These will not be enhanced in any way, save for deinterlacing, and will be finished in whatever format the software I choose can handle. These will be in the standard 640x480 resolution, since there is absolutely no reason to go higher. I know a couple of people are interested in seeing these preserved already, and if you want to see them as well, let me know so I can get an idea for the demand. Any tips are welcome, specifically regarding software, as this will be my first project.

Okay, this will probably happen then. If anyone has any free software suggestions, let me know. I can also make a cap of the letterboxed 97SE trilogy if anyone happens to care. I’ll probably start working on this this week. I’ll get a thread going for them.

I think what it is is that only recently has VHS become a nostalgia thing. When this site was started most people were stuck with watching it on tape, so they weren’t too interested in having them transferred. We’re just now getting to the point when people want to see them. If I can find a decent program for capturing VHS (for free) I’ll capture mine before TFA is out and put it on the personal organ site.

They didn’t NEED to save money, but a lot of things happened so that they could. I’ve heard conflicting reports of why they changed the Wookies to Ewoks, but what seems most likely is to save money.

There’s still more detail in some shots in the current master than in any of the prints that are available, so there’s still some reason to use it.

No, there wasn’t. I’m not sure if anyone has made a transfer of that set, but there may be a transfer of the 1982 VHS floating around somewhere. I’ve been meaning to capture my Faces set eventually but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Edit: My suggestion would be to go to a local thrift store and pick up a VCR and a shitty test tape to see if it works.

So is this going to get a special version number, like 1.7 or something? I just think it sounds cooler than 2.0 workprint 😃. Anyway, what all is being done for this workprint? Is anything from the SE remaining? Is there any residual GOUT residue?

This has been discussed many times elsewhere. The consensus seems to be – no, there’s no indication of there being an 85 mix for ESB and ROTJ of any sort, substantive or not. Minor differences reported from release to release are not inconsistent with the slight variation of a single mix applied over multiple releases.

Also AFAICT, there’s no content difference (i.e. different dialogue or effects) in the 93 mix of Jedi.

I know you’re probably collecting VHS tapes for some sentimental reason and there’s nothing wrong with that, but I do want to remind you that there are much, much, better ways out there to hear the 77/80/83/85/93 mixes.

So is there a 93 version of Empire that’s different from the 80 mix?
