Player-generated subtitles are extremely rare, almost all discs just use graphical overlays.
Good to know. I only assumed that because most subtitles on BDs and DVDs are very poorly rendered.

I believe they’re just missing Empire, which was added to the registry after 1997. I’m also not sure if Jedi has been selected at all.
I just did a quick edit in photoshop, i am not great at this kind of thing, so i am sure someone can do better…
If you have Photoshop CS5 or greater you can use Content Aware Fill and it should get better results.
Are subtitle fonts generated by the player or are they on disc? For any official release, that is, not DeD.

Someone posted an article from a guy who saw the scan. It is apparently not done in 4K, but rather 2K. This would be enough for a reference copy or Blu Ray release, but not a true restoration.

Another one that I forgot is Die Hard… Apparently the German dialogue spoken by Hans Gruber’s heist team was re-recorded for the home video versions, starting from the remastered Special Edition VHS release, to resolve grammar and punctuation issues that were present in the theatrical cut. Only Alan Rickman’s German dialogue remains uncorrected.
I don’t know if McTiernan has followed the footsteps of Lucas/Spielberg by ensuring Fox only provide the fixed version for TV broadcasts, I’d have to compare my W/S THX VHS and SE DVD alongside my HDTV recording to confirm.
When did the special edition VHS come out? I have an old widescreen Laserdisc version I could look at alongside the Blu Ray.

To me this wipe looks kind of off, like there are remnants of the Blu Ray wipe left in here.
Also, did everyone else not get trailers? Was this them trying to make it like a 1977 experience? Were there trailers after the film? I was really surprised to have it start immediately after the lights went down.

Well, Resolve is now a full-on non-linear editor with great color correction features. And like I said, if any shots needed a different source (like re-comped effects) I would just provide those clips as separate files, which would already be added to the project. In terms of audio, if the Disney release didn’t have the original mixes, I would make sure to conform it to GOUT sync, so everyone can mux in the audio preservations, which already exist.
I’m a little confused here. Are you suggesting that if Disney were to release their own version of the OUT that you would simply provide the various clips and have us put it together on our own?
I’m personally a fan of listening to the 93 track with a stereo setup, as it sounds really damn good. But like CatBus said, it’s not authentic. If you’re fine with some revisionism, it will sound better than the 70mm downmixed.

Quick update: I have captured the audio for both Empire and Jedi and am currently capturing the video for Empire. I will probably capture the video for Jedi tomorrow, and should have them done by around Tuesday.

A-Wing ships flicker in and out of existence. Doesn’t seem like anyone else has noticed this, so I wanted to make sure it doesn’t get lost in the shuffle.
Bluray matched to 35 mm, and automatically corrected for contrast, saturation, and exposure:
That looks an awful lot like the 97 Laserdisc to me.
So, after watching the whole Despecialized trilogy this week, I saw that ROTJ and ESB v2.0 are already far ahead of SW v2.5, which has a lot of issues in comparison.
So here’s the new plan:
I decided that for v2.0 of ROTJ, I will only make the most necessary fixes from the workprint, so that I can have a official final 2.0 version soon to finally replace the comparatively subpar v1.0.
And then I will make v2.5 versions of both rather quickly with only minor fixes (kind of like what SW v2.5 actually did for v2.1) so that the entire trilogy is on the same version and so the difference between v2.5 of SW and the other two isn’t even more huge.
And then I will start working on v3.0 of the entire trilogy, because SW really needs it and the other two are already pretty close to what I’d consider as good as Despecialized is ever going to get (and will be even more so in v2.5) but can be improved with a little extra love.
Sounds awesome Harmy! Honestly you don’t need to fix a whole lot, SW 2.5 is incredibly faithful to the unaltered. Hell, I wouldn’t mind if the Death Star Battle remained the same, the GOUT upscaling there is wonderful.

Good compilation for someone that wants to understand the changes, succinctly. I think they pretty much hit all the high points, err, low points.
There are many others that get under my skin but for what it is, it’s not a bad list.
Interesting to note that they used Re-specialized for number 3.
