This is really cool. I hope for the sake of those that speak the language, they finish the trilogy. That way it can be included in future DeD releases and what not.

The EU originally retconned TPM Greedo as being ANH Greedo’s father because that deleted scene contradicted the backstory they’d already established for the character, but then TCW established that TPM Greedo & ANH Greedo were one and the same after all, so then the EU writers had to retcon the retcon.

This is why I’m happy the EU is no longer canon. Now, if they can get around to de-canonizing the PT.
They’re also not worth nearly what they’re asking for them. You shouldn’t have to pay more than $20-30 a piece.

This was very well done. The only things I would say is adjust some of the dialogue levels and maybe shorten Han Solo’s speech- it just seems to drag a little.
I won’t be including specs on the covers themselves, but I may create an insert for the case with chapters and technical specs.
I would prefer this, in case for whatever reason someone just wanted to use the covers themselves. Have you decided what your source of EBB and RoTJ 97 will be?
I believe that’s the EU explanation, so it’s not technically canon. Unless, of course, it was deemed canon for TFA. In which case I’ll be BTFOBBQLOLROFLOOTOUT.

Heres an update of my custom set. Finally got the positioning right to fit the covers perfectly in the 15mm Criterion Blu-ray boxes and was able to track down some higher resolution art for the back. As for the inside/reverse, I printed them with the Noriyoshi Ohrai collage style prints. All in all, pretty happy with the results. Hope you enjoy.

I’ve seen contradictory information in different places; has it been determined if these 97SE theatrical mixes are the same as the on the 97SE laserdiscs (apart from codec, bitrate, and possible attenuation of the surrounds)?

Also, was the sound completely/majorly remixed for 2004 DVDs, or is the 2004 mix largely the same as either/both of the 1997 mixes (apart from obvious changes like Emperor, Boba Fett, etc.?)
Yup. If you have the DVD, listen to Tarkin and Leia right before Alderaan explodes, you will hear strange leveling issues that aren’t present in the 97 DTS track.
There was one episode on Netflix that had all of its CGI in 16:9, but I can’t remember which one it was. They also had one episode that was the original version but, again, I can’t remember which one it was.
I’m not sure any version of TOS is airing on U.S. tv right now. I know TNG was running the SD versions of TNG last year when the channel was briefly unscrambled on my system. Maybe something will happen for the 50th anniversary? CBS seems to think streaming is where the money is now though.
I think the original two episode DVD’s look pretty darn good upconverted. But I grew up watching well worn syndication prints on tv. 😉
I believe there’s at least one cable or satellite channel that does. My father in law was mentioning it to me.

On that note, there may be some things in the Special Edition making of featurette from the Laserdisc that could fill in for some of it.
Looks really cool, I’ll have to find time and watch the whole thing too. Though, I would be less distracted during the SD parts if they just had regular black pillar-boxing, rather than what’s on there now.
I agree with this. If someone wants to go a step further, they could use the Japanese Laserdisc of FSWTJ for the SD portions and use the VHS to remove the subs.

Well in the video above they mentioned that the piece of metal was in the original plate for Arena. Perhaps it was cropped out for actual broadcast, even though it was in the negative?
I’m not entirely sure it’s seamless. The color timing of the live action shots is much less saturated in the unaltered versions. Also, they only use the original mono audio.
“High quality” is a bit of a stretch for at least TB. I haven’t seen G’Kar myself, though. And the Five Star Collection are well known bootlegs round these parts. If you google a review for them you can find more information, but they are just Laserdisc transfers.
I believe that’s the case with the Xbox 360. If I use the built in zoom feature to watch the GOUT on my widescreen TV, it actually shifts the subtitles up to a readable level. I don’t know how many players have a zoom feature like this, however.
