The Phantom Menace: Japanese Laserdisc Preservation - MKV Available now (Released)

I’ve been meaning to preserve my laserdisc of TPM for myself, are the alien subs in English or Japanese I don’t remember also I read that they don’t appear on screen, are they below like the rest of the subs if they are couldn’t someone just make a custom sub track and place them where they belong ?

I think they’re in the letter boxing in Japanese. And yeah, it’s not to difficult to throw an SRT file together in about half an hour for those subs.

Info: The Force Awakens - Home Video Version; NOT Theatrical Cut - differences?
Time

Hi there, just thought I’d post something I noticed.
At around the 30-31 minute (forget the specific time) mark of the TFA Blu-Ray, there is a close-up of BB-8 fleeing with Rey and Finn, headed for the Falcon.
Now in the theatrical version BB-8 makes a little “bleep bloop” noise, this is completely absent from the Blu Ray version.
This is the only change I’ve picked up so far but I highly doubt it’s the only one. That means that once again, no matter how minor, we have another Star Wars film edited from its original format for the home video release.
The company and staff may change, but the tradition never will :’)

It’s still in theaters if you really want to double check it.

EDIT: Also, shouldn’t this be in general discussions?

Looks like the original Star Trek episode “The Light Of Zetar” is sold on eBay. Who’s going to preserve that print?

How the hell is an interpositive in public hands ???

Looks like it was sold by the studio.

I do agree that summer 2017 would be nearly the perfect time to do some kind of theatrical release of the OOT.

I think before/alongside Rogue One would be the perfect time. A re-release won’t steal any of RO’s thunder, but it could perhaps draw some skeptical older fans into the theaters. In particular, a RO/STAR WARS marathon could be awesome.

The problem with that is that they would have had to be working on a restoration for some time now in order to have it ready on time, which is certainly a possibility. But if they decide to use mike vertas restoration, they still could, but it means they’d probably pair it with subpar restorations of empire and Jedi. I doubt they’d release SW in any way other than alongside the rest of the trilogy. Unless they’re planning to do one a year.

Even sub-par restorations of Empire and Jedi are better than what we have and would even be mildly acceptable.

Hey Althor, have you captured the “For those who remember… one last time” trailer that’s on the Star Wars Faces ld’s? Looking for a high quality version of that for a project I’m working on.

I don’t know about any other region, but in the US, that trailer was only on the VHS Faces release, not the LD.

Wow Fink. I think your kids may be autistic.

No matter the misdeeds I do in life I at least know I could never stoop that low. Thanks for proving that I’m not as bad of a person as I make myself out to be.

Anywho…Frink I’d love for you to do this with AOTC. TPM would just put them to sleep 😉

I’d love to see him do this with his Ridiculous edits. Or make a commentary track out of it 😃

How accurate are the Harmy versions?

I worked with various teams on trying to reconstruct various missing Dr Who stories, and while that is very hard stuff to do well, it would be peanuts compared to what Harmy has done.

Really? I’d think that would be harder, since so much footage is actually lost, unlike Star Wars, where much of the footage was just low-quality.
