I think they had intended to do one at some point. This never happened though.

I may have found a decent 720p HDTV version. I’ll let you guys know after I download it.
Edit: It is indeed. Here are some screenshots:

Sorry for the white line, this was taken as a screenshot through MPC using the Windows 7 snipping tool.
That looks excellent! Good work.
It reminds me of the aesthetic of A.I. for some reason.
Not sure if this issue was noticed to death already, but on the Death Star scene, right before the shot with Stormtroopers searching the Falcon, there seems to be some sort of screen-torn brightness (blue color fade?) on the top right (and maybe the rest of it?). It looks like that brightness was slightly bumped up.

edit: Yep, I think it might be a 2004 thing.
It’s not on the SSE, so probably.
I think that’s just the 97 that has it. This was also sourced form a 16mm print, so it should be a fully authentic mono track.
I know a reconstruction hasn’t been done, and I don’t think an HDTV version exists. All that really leaves would be despecializing it using the DVD.
I just found this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/35mm-Film-Trailer-Short-Disney-Pixar-KNICK-KNACK-2003-Flat-3-31-MINT-/121931141899?hash=item1c63a9930b:g:w40AAOSwh-1W5fqz
This is the rerendered version. I believe they tried to sell it before.
What about those of us who have triangular tablets?
With regards to the version, I assume they want to project using 35mm, and the only version Lucasfilm hands out on film is the 97. They never bothered to make a DCP of them (since they’re not the newest version), not did they bother to make film prints of the 2011, because very few studios still release this widely on film.
I wish I could attend one of the showings, but the nearest one is more than 600 miles away from me. Not really worth it, I’m afraid. I’ll just have to wait for another day to finally see them theatrically. I wasn’t born yet in 77 and too young to see them in 97, and I didn’t want a 7 film marathon just to see the 2011 versions. Oh well.
So, I don’t know if anyone has discussed this yet, but I noticed on Jedi 2.5’s isolated score track that some of the lyrics in Lapti Nek play in the wrong order then they do in the film normally.
Also, out of curiosity, how did you guys manage to isolate Lapti Nek in the first place?
I think it’s the version from the soundtrack or the one that was released as a single. It happens to be different from the one that’s in the film itself.
But the version on the soundtrack has completely different vocals by a different singer. The version in despecialized’s isolated score has the film version’s vocals, just in a different order. That’s not how it was ever released to my knowledge.
To be honest, I’m not too sure about all the differences with the song. I don’t think it was a mistake on Harmy’s part, though.

Have you tried?
Yes, the Macrovision stops it in its tracks. I need to find someone with a Grex or one of the other video stabilizers that can defeat it to do the transfer. Both Academy sets are in good condition, I found them on eBay a year or so ago.
I would also like to find an HDTV recording of the original 1997 version of the film. Now all the stations only air the “Remastered” Titanic 3D released version.
What’s the difference between the remastered and 1997?
Well, at least we know we won’t see a proper version within the year: http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/04/12/star-wars-original-trilogy-heading-back-to-theaters
I don’t see how one confirms the other.
I suppose it doesn’t necessarily, but wouldn’t if they were to release a restoration this year, why would they bother even showing the 97 version?
Because the restoration isn’t ready?
Because nostalgia?
Because jerks?
Because money?
Because Jabba-lovers?
Because 1997 was the year of the Beast?
Because I can keep going?
Yeah.

I bought the Best Buy Steelbook. I thought it looked cool.
…would you be willing to donate?
Not a lot, but yes. And by not a lot I mean like $5 because I’m honestly pretty poor.
That’s a good point.
I’m glad we’re clear.

Reading further along in the thread, I’m sad that no one complained about the greatest sin the I MUST CROP STAR WARS guy committed here, which was not using the Quote button.
4 TB? That’s… I’m not exactly made of money anymore…
You could probably ask for donations. I’m sure people would love to see this.
I believe you can see occasional dirt or damage in certain shots.
At this rate there may not be anyone left to download from the spleen. 😉
Well someone’s got some spleenin’ to do.
It’s not a useful indication of how the film actually looked though. It’s not about what’s “most natural” if it wasn’t “natural” to begin with.
Yeah, but I thought the rule was the the FYC must represent the music as heard in the film.
This was incredibly uncomfortable.
