Well I feel old now.
It was the second movie I saw in theaters. I was 6.

- Most 4K discs can be found for $25-30, the same price DVD or Blu-ray was at first.
- You’re telling me you wouldn’t pay $45 each for a 4k restoration of the OOT? I’d be first in line.
That boxed set with the extras retailed for, if memory serves, $250 in 1993. Figure that out with inflation. That was totally worth it back then.
About $415-420.
And, tbh, if they released the OT with all extras and documentaries, I’d pay it.
I wouldn’t. That’s an insane price for movies on a medium that trends around 10% of that price.
I think $250 for a comprehensive set would be my limit.
FYI, someone did sync the lossless audio from all of the GOUT-synced projects to match Grindhouse. Should come up if you search “grindhouse” on myspleen. I muxed the 5.1 into this and it worked just fine.
Wait, are you saying they GOUT synced the Grindhouse video or they Gringhouse synced the GOUT-synced audio?
Oh! Oh! I have one! The recomped crawl in Star Wars! Why didn’t they just use the 81 crawl? It’s just as good as the 97.
True. I never really understood why the SW logo had to recede faster in the SE. The only thing I do like that the SE crawl did was begin to roll up before the SW logo faded out. At least that way it fits with the other episodes.
They could have easily done it digitally without recomping every single element. It just seems like they went to a lot of work for not a lot of pay off.

Wazzles - thanks mate, will see what I can do later on with the picture on the back (I may have to install this free GIMP software instead of just trying to get by with MS Paint - it may be becoming apparent why I usually stick to white inksaver sets 😉)
I’m impressed what you’ve actually been able to accomplish with MS Paint. I would definitely reccomend GIMP, but there will be a bit of a learning curve.
Second one, definitely. You may also want to darken up the X Wing and Tie Fighter on the back, possibly up the contrast a bit. At certain angles I can see the outline of the image.
I like the second one, but I think the blue bar on the front is too thick.
Does anyone know if Man on the Moon ever had a BD release?
Will we get a teaser for the Superbowl? Surely something by May. Hard to believe the 40th anniversary of the movie we all love is a mere four months from now.
Didn’t the first TFA teaser come out like a week after the name reveal?
I can’t imagine any blockbusters these days getting finished in 2K, let alone a Star Wars film.
Most movies are finished and screened in 2k. It’s crazy.
It’s probably to save money on storage.
No, fewer digital changes than the blu-ray. You are probably thinking of the HD version of the Lowry DVD master, which had a CG re-do of the car going off the cliff. The wowow is a newer 4K remaster done for the 2011 30th anniversary and has much more accurate color than the blu-ray.
I thought it had some recomped elements and also erased the guiding rod for the boulder?
Yes, it has the same digital tweaks as the DVD but not the additional ones added to the blu-ray or the CGI shot from the HD Lowry version.
I thought the Blu Ray was closer to the theatrical. What was changed?
Power is back on, PC won’t boot. No Internet here yet either. Going to open the PC up tonight to see what the trouble is. We rent, so the house damage isn’t our concern at least, and the house has been secured so all is good on that front, but we sustained some water damage inside. It looks like we had a power surge or brownout issue though as the fridge is dead and the PC etc seems to have problems. Will update as I work though it.
Good to hear about the house. Hopefully all that’s wrong with the computer is the power supply. Were you using a surge protector?

Doesn’t that version contain more changes?
I’ve never understood machete order. It seems like it’s just a half-assed way to try and do something with the PT. Like it’s there in the pile and you have to put it somewhere.
It’s really better to just ditch it, IMO. What are you missing? It’s sad, yeah, but that’s just the way it turned out. I don’t watch the holiday special either.
That’s why it was created, for those who did want to include the prequels in some way. The guy who has the website basically says if you don’t like the prequels, don’t watch them.
Looks great!
Just wondering if 1080p is really an improvement over 720p, with regard to detail. It might save encoding time to stick with 720p.
I’d agree with this.
You know, I might have just come up with an explanation for the green cast in that shot. What if it was lit with fluorescent lights? Back then fluorescent lights usually had a bit of a green tint to them:
Just a thought.
I’m pretty sure that’s just The Matrix 😃
Have the interpositives that were created to be telecined to master tape for the Laserdisc/VHS releases beeb destroyed? that’d probably be the highest quality source for official remastering, right?
I doubt that they’d destroy them unless they were seriously low on space. Assuming they were made on low fade stock, they would be a decent source. I read previously that they were on an excessively grainy stock, however, which is not indicative of the films themselves. If I’m not mistaken, Kodak’s mid-80’s motion picture film was known for being way too grainy, not only causing headaches for film makes like James Cameron, but also being what the Star Wars home video IPs were made with. Despite how grainy they are, they’d still be a good source if they were to do a quick and dirty home video transfer, since all they would have to do is some clean up and throw a soundtrack on it.
I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who hasn’t seen Star Wars before, but personally I’d go
RO
SW
ESB
ROTJ
TFAI think chronological works just fine as long as you leave the prequels out.
This isn’t a bad order, but I feel like RO is superfluous to the story. You get all the backstory you need in SW, and by cutting out RO it remains more tonally consistent.
That said, I think a modern Machete Order would be something like this:
RO
SW
ESB
AOTC
ROTS
ROTJ
TFA
Not that I would ever want to watch it this way, but it’s certainly an option.
The DVDs are 480i. I know for a while Netflix was showing them in 4:3, but I don’t recall if they were interlaced or SD or HD or whatever.
I think for most people, myself included, Myspleen is the best solution.
Hey towne, just wanted to let you know that your comparison gallery link is down.
Much better!
