I’m not sure what to think of the vow of celibacy thing. Being rather socially clumsy, it wasn’t uncommon for me to go two or three years without so much as a date (and this was not by choice). But never once did that cause me to have the slightest notion of taking advantage of a kid. I’m not sure that people take advantage of kids because they are sex-starved… I think they just are attracted to kids. Or does it depend on the person?

I’ve never had a date and it doesn’t make me want to take advantage of children. Nothing would make me do that stuff to a kid.

Hey, gang. I know I haven’t checked in for a while, and I’m not sure who cares or is interested, hopefully some of you do, but there have been some better days lately. The crisis of faith isn’t solved, but my doctor put me on Abilify, and it’s been a total godsend, no pun intended. It’s really helped with a lot of the anxiety and endless obsessive behavior. I’m not back to where I want to be, and never will be, in my opinion. But I’m doing much better in some regards, and I’m very grateful for that. There are some new problems with advancing my life now which I may discuss in the future, but I’m back in therapy and excercising again. Now I just need to start putting in some serious effort. I haven’t been keeping up with this thread, but hopefully, I’ve brought some good news to it. I’m not not as well as I’d like to be, but in some respects, I am better. And that’s a very good thing.

Good to hear from you, I am glad things are better for you. Good luck with the therapy and exercise. It’s nice to hear some good news.

At first I wasn’t sure whether I thought the police brutality thread was appropriate. Then I got to thinking, what if someone started a thread chronicling “North Korean police brutality”. I doubt anyone here would object. Why then couldn’t we accept a discussion on police brutality elsewhere, such as here? So, I think the topic is fine.

  1. It was the wording of the original title of the thread that I objected to. The original title was “American Police and their crimes against humanity”. What if a thread were created with the title “X and their crimes against humanity” (and replace X with any racial, religious, ethnic, or any other group you could think of)? Would that be acceptable?

  2. Cases are being presented in that thread as if it is fact that they are cases of police brutality when it may just be opinion that there are.

What a fraud Serena Williams is.

“You may have thought that was coaching but I’m telling you it’s not. I don’t cheat to win. I’d rather lose.”

““You owe me an apology,” she told the referee. “I have never cheated in my life. I have a daughter and I stand for what’s right for her. I’ve never cheated, and you owe me an apology. You will never do another one of my matches.””

Then her coach admits that he was indeed trying to coach her. Don’t try to tell me that Williams didn’t know about it. A coach isn’t going to try to send signals to a player who isn’t looking for them and wouldn’t know what the signals meant (and the player wouldn’t be looking for them and wouldn’t know what they meant if they didn’t plan it ahead of time).

If male players get away with what she did, that needs to be fixed by punishing the male players that do the same thing, not by allowing Williams to get away with it.

What? No, going for long (several hours long) walks is more or less a hobby of hers, and she’s gone over to that town a few times in recent months to do so. It just so happened that this time she lost her phone and the keys to the car she took to drive there. It’s not like she deliberately got rid of the phone and keys.

The only reason I freaked out so much was the fact that I got a text from her phone from a cop saying they found the phone but nothing about her, so I thought something might have happened to her. Apparently that wasn’t the case.

Still have to properly talk to her about it today and make sure that nothing actually happened beyond losing a few things and getting stuck in another town, though. Also not sure how/if/when she got back home, but she’s been active on Facebook since I heard from her last night. I’ll know more when I get home from work.

I am glad she is safe.

Is your car safe?

If I were I would act under the assumption that the keys fell into the wrong hands, better safe than sorry. Whatever keys were with your car keys, I would change those locks and see about getting the locks on your car changed(unless it is ridiculously expensive).

There are “plenty of examples” of bad acts arguably being justified by the result. Whether they were “necessary” is generally only arguable. And I wager engaging in violence to defeat “dangerous people” more likely made things worse most of the time. There are the times when not engaging in violence was tremendously effective, most notably as led by Gandhi and by MLK Jr, which weighs heavily against the idea that violence is “necessary.”

Sometimes violence is necessary, like in self defense. Also WWII, Hitler had to be stopped. Mrebo, don’t you have gun for self defense and defense for your home?

I’ve seen Birth of a Nation. It is just about the most racist movie in film history. It does glorify the KKK. The KKK are the heroes of the story. Every black character is played by a white guy in blackface. Just about every stereotype of black people can be found in it. It is also probably true that it is the first blockbuster in film history. It makes Song of the South look progressive.

Now I wish to address why I lost my temper and went off. While I agree there is no justification, there is explanation. I was pushed to the edge. I was falsely accused of opposing any protest that “ruffles peoples’ feathers”, and of worshiping the flag. I was falsely accused of putting order and etiquette ahead of justice. I was falsely accused of being nationalistic. Just about the worst was being falsely accused of using children of soldiers that made the ultimate sacrifice as a shield. (the only reason I posted those pics was to show how the flag isn’t just a piece of cloth, not to use them as a shield). I was very offended by that. I was falsely accused of not being a patriot and being unAmerican. These assumptions were all made by someone that barely knows me or anything about me. Anyone that wants to tell me that I don’t get grief for my position on the protests during the National Anthem, I will quote the posts from this debate. What was said, hurt, and it got to me. I had finally had enough of the rude insulting and disrespectful treatment and I lost my temper. Despite what that person thinks, I am not the terrible person he thinks I am.

Yes, I deserved my ban. But I am not the only one that crossed the line. I consider the above a rude and dirty and low and insulting way to debate(bully?), and I refuse to engage with that person again.

I see that the person in question has continued to cross the line with a very offensive thread title about cops. I refuse to post in that thread. If someone wants to create thread to talk about all the cop shootings and which are justified and which aren’t and to talk about the state of our policing and what is good and bad and what needs to be changed, that is fine. But to name the thread what it was named is wrong and offensive. I can only imagine how Ferris would react if he saw it. What about new members that might come along that happen to be cops? I am disappointed that Jay and the mods allowed it.
