You know what this argument about anthem-kneelers reminds me of?

That scene in Monty Python’s Life of Brian, where the crowd is stoning someone for saying the name ‘Jehovah’, and then the guy in charge of the stoning accidentally says ‘Jehovah’ himself, and they all turn on him and start stoning him too.

The misplaced outrage and slavish devotion to symbols of certain people reminds me very much of those in that crowd. Seriously: don’t be the people in that crowd.

whatever.

It’s just so amusing to me. “People who kneel are insulting the soldiers that serve and die for us!”

“I’m a wounded veteran and I support the protest.”

“Well I respect you less too!”

Can you at least acknowledge the hypocrisy of that? Pretty please?

Would you just shut the hell up?

Whatever, I give up. Most of those out-of-context posts are totally fair and none of them are harassment, they’re attacks on your political position made during a heated argument. If that’s a bannable offense then I’ll be banned soon and you can live happily until tomorrow when another user “harasses” you by engaging you in debate and then you’ll go off again about how mistreated and aggrieved you are. Good day.

EDIT: One last thing:

Warbler said:
They are what I am meant what I said I that get grief for my position.

WHAT?

I was referencing this post of mine:

Warbler said:

I seriously don’t know why I get so much grief for my stance. I am simply patriotic. I don’t like people being disrespectful to the National Anthem. I agree they have the Constitutional and legal right to protest and kneel during the National Anthem. But that doesn’t mean I have to agree with what they do. I have a right to not like their forum of protest and the right to not support it by not buying products from companies that put anthem protesters in their ads.

But I did make a couple of typos which I have since corrected.

And why did you split my post about the killed-in-action soldiers into several parts? What do you gain by that other than to make my posts look more inflammatory than they were.

I took quotes from that post and others you made to show times when I think you crossed the line.

Honestly I think you’re the one disrespecting the country. You’re one of these people that’s opposed to any kind of protest that ruffles people’s feathers.

moviefreakedmind said:

I actually do respect the ideals of America. I think that the flag worship you and President Trump demand is antithetical to those ideals.

moviefreakedmind said:

It actually shows your ignorance of history and the man you respect. Here’s what MLK had to say about folks like you: " I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action”; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a “more convenient season.” " - Letter from the Birmingham Jail, 1963.

moviefreakedmind said:

In this case you are. It’s actually a little worse. You’re more devoted to etiquette than to justice. At least people who care more about order than justice value something more tangible than etiquette.

moviefreakedmind said:

Nope, that’s nationalistic not patriotic.

moviefreakedmind said:

You are approaching this so simplistically that I honestly feel like I’m talking to an eight-year-old,

moviefreakedmind said:
Your position on this is so un-American that it makes me livid and nauseous.

moviefreakedmind said:

I’ll try to illustrate how repugnant your statement is. You know that crying little girl and the crying little boy that you threw out in front of yourself as a human shield when you couldn’t answer my questions?

moviefreakedmind said:
Imagine if their dads who died while serving the country supported these anthem protests. Imagine admitting to those kids that even though their loved ones died while serving the country (which is more than your ass has ever done), you respect them less because they didn’t oppose something that you consider to be disrespectful. Imagine that. You aren’t a patriot. Your outrage isn’t about veterans.

moviefreakedmind said: You’re one of these flag-wavers that cares more about tradition and arbitrary rituals than you care about the actual people that make up this country.

moviefreakedmind said:
your stance on this is unAmerican to the core

moviefreakedmind said:

Fuck your phony patriotism.

moviefreakedmind said:
Again, fuck your phony patriotism. Please never pretend that your outrage has anything to do with the soldiers, because you’re not fooling anyone.

I post these quotes as a record for the mods of the kinds of things that I am tired of. Some of the above are rude/insulting. Others are false accusations and false assumptions. They are what I meant when I said I that get grief for my position. These things go beyond legit debate. These are what I said I was tired of and what I feel cross the line.

Ok since nobody has any venom towards me I’ll just say that Donald Trump allegedly raped a 13 year old girl in 1994. https://www.politico.com/f/?id=00000158-26b6-dda3-afd8-b6fe46f40000

Also for those who keep ragging on about your rights to own guns but hate it when football players kneel should look at the first amendment.

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

They have their rights to protest. People have been protesting for years. During Charleston the most that we got out of the president was that some people there were good and some people there were bad. But for the football players he’s going out of his way to suck up to the “patriots” of this country (who probably just said the Pledge of Allegiance and never thought about what it meant) and complain about how they “disrespect the national anthem”.

First of all, Mr President- You don’t even know the words to the National Anthem.

The protests are about police brutality, if it was about the anthem they would say it. They have no issue with the anthem, its the fact that innocent minorities are being targeted by the police and the public is turning a blind eye to it.

So you can go on about how they aren’t patriots because they kneel for the national anthem. You can keep yelling about how anything bad said about the President is fake. You can keep waving your confederate flags and wearing your swastika arm-bands- But just leave this discussion with one thing- They don’t kneel because they disrespect the anthem, they are kneeling because they respect iit. Because America is supposed to be the land of the free, but instead its become a place where hate still thrives by way of people whose hearts are filled with spite and anger. Where anyone with a hunting license can drive up to a Pre-School and open fire. Is this the America you love? Is this great?

For the 1 billionth time, I agree 100% that players have the right protest via kneeling during the Anthem. Also I don’t rag on about gun rights. I am pro-gun control. I also can’t stand Trump and I never voted for him and never will.

I am not surprised.

“The worst thing about that isn’t that two years later we’re still debating whether players have the right to protest,

I didn’t think we were debating that. Of course they have the to protest(which includes during the Anthem).

Did you make the same mistake again? 😛

Yes I did.

This is finished. And you harass me to try to get me to continue this conversation with you, as you have tried to do in the past, I will go to the moderators. I ask that you leave me alone.

Hang on a minute, I missed this last part. What do you mean “got to the moderators”? You think I’m not allowed to post things in response to you? Since when is that against the rules? Give me a break. No one’s harassing you.

Responding to things on a public forum is not harassment. You don’t get to say things to me and then demand that I don’t respond to those things.

the rule says do not harass other members. It says either publicly or via PM. It says any unwanted contact after a request to stay away will be considered harassment. I have given you a request to say away from me.

Warbler, you honestly believe that they are “protesting the anthem”? You honestly believe that it is the ANTHEM that they are mad at??? Kapernick and others have made it clear from the start that they are protesting police brutality. And yet you (and others) persist in insisting that they are protesting the anthem. It’s amazing.

I know that now you’re going to say that the anthem isn’t the place to protest. That is a different argument. So just to be clear, one more time, on topic, Warbler, do you actually believe that they are “protesting the anthem”?

You can say they are not protesting the Anthem, that they are protesting police brutality. I say they are protesting police brutality via protesting the Anthem. Whatever you want to call it, I find it disrespectful.

Sorry, no, that’s not how words work. Strange, with how often you’ve brought up dictionary definitions, I’d have figured you’re the type of person to care about that sort of thing.

Fine, they are disrespecting the Anthem to protest police brutality.

Personally, I think boycotting Nike is misdirected outrage, and that this outrage is just a fad. So many consumer boycotts come and go, and next year no one will remember this one. Being angry at Nike is just the recent popular thing to do.

I have as just as much to protest via boycott as those that protest via disrespecting the Anthem.

Did you intentionally say that you have just as much to protest, or did you mean to say that you have just as much right to protest?

oops!! I just checked the post he responded to. I accidentally left out the word “right”. I am sorry about that. If he thought I actually meant that I have just as much to protest, I could understand being angry with that.

Possessed has contacted me via email saying that there was miscommunication here. Not that he’s trying to undo his ban, he understands the reason for it and that he did break the rules, but he would like to know if this is the way you intended to phrase the post, as he says the inclusion of the word right would likely have gotten a less intense reaction from him.

Yes, I meant to include the word. I can easily see how meaning is very different without the word “right”.

I would go back and alter my post, but I want the mods to see that I accidentally left out the word “right”, so that they can see what Possessed thought I said and why he got as angry as he did.

Mods, please unban Possessed.
