Is this the first time anyone has captured the fullscreen VHS? It looks very much the same as the end of this american VHS here
Other captures probably exist, but they I highly doubt they are as good looking as this one is
Not sure if anyone noticed, but there is another Fullscreen Open Matte source for The Matrix aside from the ICTV rip. RuTracker has another Fullscreen rip from what seems to be a Russian VHS and not only does it look better imo visually, but it has more footage all around and better-looking colors.

I’d just like everyone to know that I’ve taken into account the various problems with Version 1 of this project. First and foremost, it was encoded at 30fps for the purposes of making a blu-ray, which is not an easy thing to do for a mac user. I use Adobe Encore for making blu-rays, and the lowest framerate it can accept without lagging is 30fps. Therefore, I will from now on release all of my projects as as the raw MOV files that are made in Final Cut Pro. Version 2 of Shrek will happen sometime later this year, but I’d like to take a break to work on some of my old projects that have just as many people interested. First and foremost, I am returning to work on my Devo project. It won’t be as lavish as I originally intended, but It will have as many Bonus Features as I can possibly come up with.
Again, I’m sorry about the problems with the Shrek restoration. They have been noted and will be fixed by the time Version 2 happens.
If you need any help let me know! I know some people that are great at encoding film scans!
I got this from Goodwill recently also. Great addition to my open matte DVDs!
Personally, I don’t see much of a point. Clockwork Orange is getting a new 4K UHD release this October. It would’ve been worth it if it wasn’t hard matted

The print has been scanned thanks to all the donors! The reel is about 5 minutes and only has a little over 1 minute of Beatles footage. Donors have been sent 1080p samples and will be given raw 4K scans once they are ready!

This 35mm print of Terminator 2 has shown up on Ebay! It has some absolutely beautiful color and would be amazing to get a 4K scan considering how bad the official UHD release is. Not super interested in setting up fundraising, but if anyone else wants to than that would be amazing and I would be willing to help with donations!
Currently trying to get the mono mixes for a project I’m working on. I have the original Stereo Laser Disc mix of Magical Mystery Tour which has the original “Roll Up” sequence which was removed from later releases voiced over by John Lennon, but it’s Stereo rather than being the original Mono mix shown in theaters and on the BBC. Help! has never had the original mono mix released in any form as far as I know. Maybe TV rips or something? The Blu-Ray release while also being pretty disgusting visually didn’t even offer the Mono mix while the Yellow Submarine release and Criterion’s Hard Day’s Night release had the Mono mixes. Any help (no pun intended) would be appreciated!
Poita has found a faded original 1980 release print. Besides my obsession with the film, I thought it might be useful for the original mono soundtrack, and seeing the full aperture of the film.
I’ve read an account in a Kubrick fan group from someone who saw a 35mm screening that was unmatted. Besides the infamous helicopter shadow, microphones and other film gear can be allegedly seen. More stuff for the conspiracy theory crowd to chew on. 😉

The mono mix is apparently on a old open matte DVD. That probably sounds a little better than a 35mm sound track would

The transfer is finished, but I’m still waiting on the encode to be done for the movie. Once that is finished I’ll set up a download in my Discord server for both the raw transfer, and a “remastered” version. Is sharing links to Discord here against the rules? If not I’ll edit this post with a Discord link for further updates.
Ah the 1999 version reflects the UK cinema cut, that’s why it was changed

Yes the cut that has the “Beatles To Battle” scene that plays Baby, You’re A Rich Man. The 1999 releases and onward remove this scene and replace it with the Beatles talking to Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and then leading into the Hey Bulldog scene. It’s why you hear the start up to the song in the Blu-Ray/1999 release, but not hear the full song itself. Personally I prefer the 1999 cut of the movie as it’s far less abrupt of an ending, but it’s very cool to have a chance to preserve an alternate cut of the movie never rereleased past 1987
Really cool stuff. I have always owned the original VHS release since I was a kid which was passed down from my parents. Cool to see people preserving the original mono audio!
I recently purchased the 1987 Laser Disc for The Beatles - Yellow Submarine. This Laser Disc is not only open matte on the top and bottom presenting an aspect ratio closer to the original TV Movie broadcast in the 60s, but contains scenes the later releases in 1999-Onward do not have. I have it already sent to my good friend ZeroCool for transfer and I will post screenshots and find ways to distribute a “restored” version. The transfer should be ready this weekend so I will update this thread with screenshots!

The transfer is here! As you can see it’s open matte when compared to the Blu-Ray release and in the second Tweet the “Beatles To Battle” scene is present which was never remastered in later releases. Another big thanks to ZeroCool for the transfer. Updates will come soon on the remaster/encoding process and possible ideas for a “US Cut” of the movie.

Encoding is still being worked on. The plugins being used are very old and 32bit so encoding time is basically tripled more than it should be. In the mean time anyone who wants faster updates I have my Discord server set up. If you want an invite private message me!
