Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga 4k UHD -- 27 DISC Boxed Set -- 3/31/2020

‘Confirmed by @thedigitalbits that if you buy the Blu-ray-only set you get 11SE on Blu-ray, but if you buy the UHD / Blu-ray combo set you get the 19SE on Blu-ray. Because that’s not confusing to consumers.’

I can imagine it won’t clearly marked as such on the packaging either…

What?!! This makes no sense. Two versions available at the same time - and with no clear indicator of which version the customer is actually buying on the box?

(and also no official list on the diffrences between these two versions on the official website or other social media pages?)

If that is right then it really is treating the customer with contempt, a complete lack of respect, and also incredibly lazy not to advise us what is in each set beforehand.

Are they hoping that fans will buy both releases? A double-dip of sorts?

Which version is on the DVD format for this release? The 1997 Special Edition? (insert sarcasm emoji face here)

<strong>Coronavirus</strong> (COVID-19) Pandemic thread - <strong>relevant political discussion allowed</strong> in here

^ Our President thinks we have the memory of goldfish given some of his recent claims and statements in comparison to those he made just a couple of months ago.

Stating the obvious, but stay safe people.

Edit: And this, this I find to be disgusting, an embarrassment to our political system and this country:-

The Original Trilogy <strong>Trailers/Promos</strong> Video Thread (YouTube/Vimeo, etc. finds)

Why do these need to be posted separately? Would be easier to have them in the first post. Or just make a Youtube playlist out of them.

I haven’t posted many videos of late, but how would I go about editing the first post (in a thread I didn’t create) to include or update videos?

The Original Trilogy <strong>Trailers/Promos</strong> Video Thread (YouTube/Vimeo, etc. finds)
Time

Star Wars Original Trilogy 2006 DVD Trailer’:-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmtnEQS8ICw - at the skip3579 youtube channel. (3 minutes and 8 seconds)

The official trailer for the 2006 DVD release containing the unaltered theatrical version of the Original Trilogy as ‘bonus discs’ on a repackaged 2004 OT Special Edition release.

The trailer had a total of 14 seconds runtime advertising that the unaltered theatrical version of the Original Trilogy was included in this release - out of 3 and a bit minutes.

In fact, more time was given to advertising the coming ‘Lego Star Wars II: Original Trilogy’ video game!

Awesome idea for an Original Trilogy Trailer / Promo thread, ZkinandBonez 😃

Reasoning Behind Changes from Release to Release
Time

A pretty big reason straight from George’s mouth as to why changes were made from release to release, or in this case from the unaltered original theatrical version to the 1997 Special Edition version (as found by doubleofive):-

George Lucas: “So yes, the Special Editions were a means of researching and testing what I was going to try to do on this film. (re The Phantom Menace)

I know it has also been mentioned elsewhere on the site, but I thought it was also worth a mention in this thread too, given the topic being discussed in here.

Disney “cannon” is… just… not cannon to me. I’ve read so many Star Wars books, seen all the movies several times (still believe Hal9000’s versions are the best).

I never liked that Disney stepped in and said “oh by the way, all those books (100+), comics and games are no longer cannon because we said so”.

I will keep an eye out to see what they actually do with this. I just hope they have SOME respect for all the CANNON that is already out there, and don’t try and rewrite it all.

It is nothing new - Lucasfilm did the pretty much the same for the Holiday Special, both the animated Droids and Ewoks series, the two mid-80’s Ewok films, and 2003’s The Cone Wars animated series too… well before Disney came along.

Thankfully, this site exists with some very determined and kind people out there finding and preserving content that Lucasfilm do not want us to be able to watch anymore 😃

Back on the subject of The High Republic era, the informative ‘Star Wars Explained’ youtube channel has knocked up a few insightful videos on the subject, with this one catching the eye as mentioning any references already made to it:-

<strong>STAR WARS: GALAXY OF ADVENTURES</strong> (animated shorts) - a general discussion thread
Time

Official Season Two Trailer | Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures’:-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duMl_c5r_kk - at the official ‘Star Wars Kids’ youtube channel.

Looks like the animation is a liitle more detailed here, or has more depth to it - simply going on this trailer (so I may well be mistaken 😃).

It was a decent introduction for kids to some of the more iconic scense from Star Wars in season one of this, so should be interesting to see what they do for season two…

Star Trek: Picard - <strong>SPOILERS</strong>
Time

Ditto ooj, the season has flown by and not a ‘clunker’ among them so far.

I’m looking forward to re-watching all the episodes again when the season finishes - just to see how much I’ve missed in the background, and with the easter eggs and other stuff I have no doubt missed.

Akin to The Mandalorian, you can feel the love, respect and care for the content they are making - and also what has come before.

'Star Wars: <strong>The High Republic</strong>' era publishing project (was aka 'Project Luminous')
Time

Project Luminous has been mentioned for a long while now - since around April of 2019.

Charles Soule, Daniel José Older, Cavan Scott, Justina Ireland and Claudia Gray are the main people involved in the project - so it has potential for some high quality work.

Details finally emerged on the project today, with ‘Project Luminous’ being revealed to be the Star Wars: The High Republic publishing campaign (books and comics). More information can be found below…

Lucasfilm to launch Star Wars: The High Republic publishing campaign in 2020’:-

With an ‘introductory announcement’ video, here…

or click on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCat5fXRyyU to watch - at the Star Wars official YouTube channel. (4 mins long)

In short (the blurb from the above Star Wars website article)

'Later this year, Lucasfilm will launch an epic new era of Star Wars storytelling that will be explored through multiple voices in adult and young adult novels, children’s books, and comics from a variety of publishers including Disney Lucasfilm Press, Del Rey, IDW Publishing, and Marvel.

Star Wars: The High Republic, which has previously been referred to as “Project Luminous”, will be set in an era when the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order are at their zenith, about 200 years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. This period on the Star Wars timeline will not overlap any of the filmed features or series currently planned for production, giving creators and partners a vast amount of room to tell Star Wars stories with new adventures and original characters.’

<strong>Star Wars (1977)</strong> - a general <strong>Random Thoughts</strong> thread
Time

Pretty much what oojason said is why we created these threads.

And maybe also an attempt, or a reminder, that the site isn’t just for endlessly yammering on about the Sequel films, and the repetitiveness, negativity and toxicity that comes with it at times - which has seemed to be the focus on conversations on here over the last couple of years.

Thankfully, there doesn’t seem to be much of that in this part of the forum!

Maybe we can start talking about the 1977 Star Wars film in here, now?

And enjoy ourselves doing so… 😃

The <strong>Original Trilogy</strong> - a general <strong>Random Thoughts</strong> thread
Time

Now that there is a dedicated ‘Original Trilogy Discussion’ forum on the site, and the General Star Wars Random Thoughts thread is in the ‘General Star Wars Discussion’ section, some of us on here thought it may be a neat idea to have new ‘General Random Thoughts’ threads focusing on each of the three Original Trilogy films.

Plus another thread for ‘General Random Original Trilogy Thoughts’.

In other words… a few threads for some light discussion of these much loved, iconic and ground-breaking films.

And so:-

Star Wars (1977) - a general Random Thoughts thread

The Empire Strikes Back - a general Random Thoughts thread

Return Of The Jedi - a general Random Thoughts thread

The Original Trilogy - a general Random Thoughts thread (this very thread)

George's museum - the 'Lucas Museum of Narrative Art' (in LA, set to open in 2022)
Time

The ‘Lucas Museum of Narrative Art’ is scheduled to open in 2022, and from the Vanity Fair article below, seems there were a few issues on a location before settling on LA - and breaking ground in 2018.

There will be a ‘Star Wars exhibit’ at the museum - though it may likely have a large empty space for where the unaltered theatrical version of the Original Trilogy films were for 20 years… (before they stopped existing in George’s eyes) - next to the various incarnations of the Special Editions which replaced them?

Such a space likely won’t be in the ‘Film Preservation’ section on the museum - as to not confuse anyone questioning why Lucas sits on the boards of a few film preservation groups; yet won’t preserve or release the classic original version of his own three films which made Star Wars what it is (and also underpins much of his own work since).

Having said that, it does look a cool building design 😃 (more images of it can be found in the articles below) and will hopefully feature some cool and rarely seen ‘bits and pieces’ from the various films and projects he has been involved with.

apologies mods if there is already a thread on the George’s museum? I couldn’t find one earlier, but if there is please delete or merge this if possible? TIA.
