Not as bad as I thought they would be.

I always thought they were just stupid “car” movies for boy racers when they were coming out, but I recently sat down and watched them all with my brother and they’re actually pretty fun and enjoyable action flicks that don’t take themselves seriously at all. They’re very self-aware and it seems like all the people involved are just having a good time together.

I really don’t think so, for the reasons you mentioned. If anything, there’s an oversaturation of related media now. I mean, to use Marvel as an example, there’s the comics empire, plus separate movies about five (Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Ant Man) main characters, plus Guardians of the Galaxy, plus the teamup movies, plus shows about Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, AND The Defenders teamup. Plus Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., plus the new Runaways show. Plus the plans for new movies and shows.

With Star Wars there’s the main line of films and the anthology movies, there are around ten new-EU novels, all those comics series I mentioned, and right now there’s only Battlefront for (real) Star Wars video games, but there are plans for at least two or three more.

Please tell me that’s old EU.

Nah it’s from the current run Star Wars main series comics. Luke gets captured by a Hutt who collects Jedi artifacts as his crown jewel and then the gang shows up to rescue him.

Back then, I warned and laughed at many people around here who were claiming how happy they are that the old “crappy” EU will be wiped and replaced by great new stuff. I was indeed correct, as always.

I’d say that the ratio of good to bad is about the same: one or two good things and the rest is mostly junk. I don’t miss the old EU.

I agree that the ratio might eventually be the same. As of this moment however, new-EU has been nothing but a crap. Since TFA was a crap, I can just say everything that came after LF sale was a crap so far.

I disagree that it’s all been bad. I enjoyed the first few issues of the Poe Dameron comic (I haven’t caught up yet), the Chewbacca and Lando comics were good, and I even enjoyed the first few issues of the Obi-Wan & Anakin comic (but I have a soft spot for those goofy Jedi Apprentice novels) so far.

The comic about Poe Dameron’s parents was iffy, but not terrible. The Leia comic was meh, the Star Wars main series isn’t great (it has a couple decent moments though), and the Vader comic is… I dunno. It has pretty good writing and characters, and I used to think it was the best of the new series’, but it’s really not that great the more I think about it.

They did hand-wave the recording with the implication that Bail had to have been paranoid over his own death to have hidden it away on another planet; Even Leia expected it to have been destroyed on Alderaan.

And yes, the Senate is actually that corrupt. A significant fraction of the Centrist’s elite are Empire Apologists, and the book ends with them putting a man to death because they were given a nice, quick excuse to do so, rather than actually reading through what Leia had discovered, even if the man in question was the man who did everything he could to make sure Leia’s message would be heard.

It’s not a perfect book, but they do at least try to explain things.

EDIT: I think I remember why it was in this one Governer’s holding. I believe it was implied he was supposed to have been taken the place as Leia’s Guardian if her parents died.

Well, I’d give it a shot. Considering the way ROTS ended, it’s not too big a stretch to imagine most people are pro-Empire.

That Bail would record such a thing, and not keep it on Alderaan seems kind of improbable at best. Honestly, putting such a message inside Artoo with instructions to not play it unless Bail died makes more sense.

And holy hell, did the senate just forget everything Leia did to destroy the Empire? Not to mention the price she paid? They’re just going to piss all over that for a hologram of dubious origin?

How would Bail even know Anakin was Vader unless Obi Wan and Yoda mentioned it? At the point of their last meeting in person, Anakin was presumed dead.

Yeah, it seems a little too “old EU” for me, if I’m honest. Too many chance occurrences and longshots.

It’s complicated, and requires even more spoilers from bloodlines. So, Spoilers from that book.

What happened was that this Noble title for one planet passed with no heir, so by default it would be handed down to Leia. This planet, however, was known for it’s really, really long ceremonies, and it was a title that was pure formality. Leia, having no interest in it, handed it over to Lady Carise, a Centrist who was also of the “Elder Houses” (As the collection of nobility was called.)

Lady Carise, during the ceremony, looked through her inheritance. It contained a music box (It had a more specific name, but I don’t remember it off the top of my head) with a prerecorded message from Bail Organa himself, who wanted to be absolutely sure that Leia knew who her birth father was when she was old enough.

Lady Carise, wanting to destroy Leia’s attempt at being elected First Senator, and drive a nail into her budding friendship with Casterfo, showed Casterfo to this, and Casterfo proceded to show it to the entire Senate.

Damn, that’s ice cold.
