I’m glad Warb. I hope you’re doing okay.
Rain at a funeral always seems fitting.

Watched Civil War again this weekend, but started watching it too late so we split it into two. I think my wife is right, the second half is much better than the first half. “When Spider-Man comes in is when it really gets good” are words I never thought I’d hear my wife say, but she said them.
It’s such a complex topic. I read the comic series before seeing the movie and the movie just didn’t have the same weight as the comic version (in terms of how widespread the effects of the SRA were and how hard-hitting the catalyst for the act is). Only having eight or so superheroes all in the same supergroup kinda diminished the weight of the film, which I assume is why they went with the more personal angles of Tony and his parents and Steve working to prove that Bucky wasn’t a bad guy. Also everyone picked sides early on and were much more loose with their allegiances.
The first half of the film is a bit slow and weird because they’re really trying to pack a lot of info in, and the second half they finally get down to business. I almost wonder if it shouldn’t have been two films, honestly. But I’m also hoping that the civil war isn’t over by the end of the film and we see more of it in the leadup to Thanos (who is coming after a world where the only people who can stop him are split and half of those are criminals).
I know, some of his stuff had such great potential.
A hilarious joke.
I mean it’s a shame you feel that way.
Frink’s using Spaceballs in his ROTS edit you know.
He is, but it doesn’t mean he likes it.
Everything with Dark Helmet is great. Everything else is meh minus to suck minus. And that includes most every other Mel Brooks movie as well. Including Blazing Saddles.
That’s a shame.
Haha, I love T’pau.
It’s a big one.
Yeah the helicopter sabers are literally one of the most stupid things in all of Star Wars ever.
I love Dave and I love Rebels and The Clone Wars and all of that, but man, they can’t all be winners.
“Manos” The Hands of Fate (MST3K)
Okay, so I finally watched an MST3K show, and man was that fun!
It is truly a wonderful show.
When I was kid, I froze my Boba Fett, and kept him in the freezer for a while. Why I didn’t freeze Han, I have no idea.
Revenge.
That was my thought as well.
Marquand [was] under contract too you know.
So that’s why Return of the Jedi sucks. 😉
The seven Star Wars films are airing in about 2 weeks here on their own dedicated FOXTEL channel. My friends who think they know better intend to watch them with their kids in episode order rather than release order. Here is the message I sent to try and convince them, without going into too much depth:
If you start with the prequels instead of the original “Star Wars” you are doing it wrong. Take it from a lifelong Star Wars nerd : ) The biggest twist in the movies - that Darth Vader is Luke’s Father - is completely spoiled if you watch the prequels first, as are many other aspects of the original films. The prequels are just backstory. Star Wars is about Luke Skywalker, not about how his Dad became evil. Trust me ; )
I will also make sure they have theatrical versions of the original trilogy, but I’m not sure how successful I will be. Share your experiences with trying to correct your ignorant friends and family.
I feel like you’ve mostly got it.
I have to make the decision to go on a Mormon mission or not at the end of high school. Not fun
Do it, darth. Is it hard? Of course. Was it worth it? More than you’ll ever know… Unless you go. I’m so grateful I did.
Sorry but I don’t believe in any of it at all. I find many of our beliefs sexist and inherently wrong. I have now become agnostic. The stress of the decision to go on a mission is entirely because of the emotional pain and humiliation I will go through my community and my family. My father has been a bishop and just got called as Stake President. It’s not the inner turmoil of whether it’s true, it’s the inner turmoil of what consequences I want. I’m extremely jealous of those born into good hearted agnostic homes with a supportive family who won’t force you to believe something that they think is crucial to if you can live with them forever again.
I’d urge you not to do it. Don’t sell out your principals.
That’s what keeps me leaning towards that decision. In the end I have to take a stand for what I believe and if that means them hating me and seeing me as a dissapointment then I’ll have to deal with that pain. Thanks for the kind words everyone
It definitely won’t be easy, but faking your way through a mission (which will probably be one of the most difficult experiences of your life) for approval is not easy either.
I gotta say I agree.
But it’s a tough decision that I can’t make for you.
I’m solidly more Gen-X than Millennial according to the lists.
Well whattaya know – so am I!
Not that this surprises me at all, what with my loathing of everything 21st century.
There is plenty great about the 21st century, though.

Mac and Me (1988)
1/10 - Never see this movie.
I guess you’d have probably liked it better if it was PC and Me.
Probably.

It’s called “trolling,” at least in this case.
Actually one of the most stupid and childish things to ever emerge from humankind.
What I find interesting is that Luke’s outfit in TFA is almost exactly his outfit in ROTJ, just colored differently.
There’s always debate as to whether the robes and tunic are actually a part of the Jedi uniform (as the PT suggests) or rather the garb of Tatooine dwellers and hermits. Luke being a hermit in TFA doesn’t help either way. Perhaps Rey’s eventual Jedi costuming will prove one way or another (though it is probably likely that she’ll keep the outfit from the end of TFA throughout VIII).
Whoof, I just realized I hope we don’t see any PT Jedi robes in the ST.
Is there such a thing even? We more-or-less just saw the same robes that Ben and Yoda wore. I think Anakin was the only one who really stood out, and his outfit was kind of mix of the farmer robes and Luke’s black outfit.
i think it’s most likely they’ll make up their own Jedi outfits for TFA that kind of fits in between both the OT and PT, so as to not irritate either side of the fan base.
There’s definitely a difference in feel between what we saw Ben wearing in Star Wars and what we saw all the Jedi wearing in the PT. Different textures and materials and whatnot.

Oh sweet, Misty Knight.
I’ll miss the 70s blaxploitation angle, but she’s a cool character.
Also I will concede that the Iron Man 3 theme is great, but I wish they’d held onto the original theme from Iron Man.
I’m solidly more Gen-X than Millennial according to the lists.
Mac and Me (1988)
Yeah, I didn’t know that was even a thing until I was Wiki-ing the movie tonight.
Weird.
Mac and Me (1988)
A couple friends and I have been planning on watching this one for a long time and finally I’ve had enough time to actually sit down and watch it.
It’s awful. One of the worst movies I’ve ever seen with no redeeming qualities whatsoever (aside from sweet 80s jams). It’s almost like a bunch of execs got together and decided on a bunch of cool things from other movies to toss together in their giant product-placement of a film. I’m the kinda guy who will gleefully watch a movie that’s so bad it’s good, but Mac and Me just stops at bad.
By far the most egregious part of the ordeal is the design of the aliens that are not only not cute, but are actually quite creepy and in some cases downright scary. With a little editing and a change in the scoring, Mac and Me could very easily become a horror film.
1/10 - Never see this movie. It gets a one by default and because of the horrigood 80s music. I guess the older sister was kinda cute (in an 80s way), too.
Moonwalker (1988)
The second part of tonight’s double feature. We just finished this a few minutes ago and man… maybe it’s because it was following up Mac and Me, but I think this is a legitimately good movie. It takes a bit to get moving, but features a neat retrospective of Jackson’s music, transitioning into some really interesting surreal themes in the early parts (involving a lengthy claymation segment), evolving into a more structured story (featuring Joe Pesci and one of the best usages of the Lancia Stratos Zero ever) and the fantasic “Smooth Criminal” segment. I really don’t want to spoil the end, but my mind was continuously blown segment after segment. Having never done drugs, I assume that Moonwalker might be what it’s like.
It’s worthwhile to see Michael in his prime. Regardless of what you think of him, the man could sing and dance like nobody else.
8/10 - See this movie.
Damn, Rush. That’s a hard decision to make.
I may not be family, but I support you!

lol I just saw this on Reddit. How funny.
I miss the Iron Man music from Iron Man. I thought it was great, iconic music and it basically disappeared by IM2.
They should have established more motifs for each character and then used them combined for The Avengers films. Imagine how cool it would be to have Steve and Tony’s themes clashing in Civil War.
More things should be scored like Star Wars.
Yeah both the Iron Man and Cap themes from their respective films were pretty cool.
One thing that definitely doesn’t help (in addition to the general blandness) is complete inconsistency of composers. Three Iron Man movies, three different composers. Three Thor movies, three different composers. Two Avengers movies, you get it.
There has been some slight continuity. Silvestri did the first Cap and then Avengers (but then was dropped completely - although he’ll be back for Infinity War!) and Jackman did Winter Soldier and Civil War (coincidence or not but these might be the four best). Brian Tyler did some cross hero scoring but he’s also total shit.
Thankfully yes, we have Giacchino to look forward to but I wouldn’t expect him to single-handedly turn this ship around.
Totally agree. To be honest, the music is the most lacking part of the franchise. They really should have invested in a single composer for each hero with a standalone franchise, then had them all coordinate or something for the teamup films. Or at least invested in one really versatile composer for all the films. People really should have learned this in '77.
I have the Iron Man theme in my head almost as much as I have Star Wars tunes, and carrying that through the movies would have really stitched them all together. They really missed the boat here. Having a consistent musical feel is critical for a large franchise like Marvel’s, as far as I’m concerned.
Someone talented should reorchestrate the films.
