“Love Plus One” - Haircut 100
Well there goes my night.
Smartphones were a mistake.
Elaborate.
I think that some people have allowed them to take over their lives. It’s like they’re always on their phones.
This is definitely true. As you get more and more recent in terms of generation, this increases. Lotta parents raising their kids on phones and tablets. Lotta people in my generation can’t leave theirs at home (myself included, though I do try to stay off of it when I’m in an interaction scenario).
I dunno if anyone actually watched the video I posted in the Gen X Thread, but the guy goes into it quite a bit, and I think he was pretty close to the mark.
Also: I replaced my oil today and now my car won’t start. One is not the symptom of the other, but it’s very annoying either way.
Maybe he just enjoys answering fan questions?
The difference is that the PT is just plain bad and TFA, while definitely not the most amazing in terms of story, is still a good movie.
Pablo is almost as good at the vague non-answer as Dave Filoni is.

Gary Whitta makes an interesting point.
I’m in, so long as there’s a disclaimer that you can only “complain” about life issues away from this site. No bitching about this forum or other members or anything about this forum. At least once a page in almost every single other thread is quite enough.
Meant to say this last night, but thirded.
I’m really stressing out over something that I shouldn’t be stressing out over. I’m taking a ton of AP classes this year (and last year) which is difficult but challenging in a fun way…usually. Last year I got a 4.0. This year I have all A’s except one class. I have worked my ass off and I’m gonna be probably ending up with a B+. I know this shouldn’t mean anything since most people I know would love to have even a B in some of their classes. I’m just very worked up over this sort of shit and my parents expect a lot out of me. The most relieving thing is when I remind myself that it literally doesn’t mean shit that I’m getting a B+ in a class. All my friends are nice and try to get a good laugh out of how stressed I always am about my grades. But in a way, now I’m kind of happy that I’m losing the 4.0. A 3.95 GPA with less worrying about perfection sounds a helluva lot better.
I apologize for ranting about a god damn B+. I’m surprised I didn’t delete this post because of how much of an idiot I sound like. I just really don’t want to have people not think I’m smart just because I got one B+.
Good grades are a fantastic goal, and I applaud you for pushing yourself towards them. But at the same time, it’s okay to not run yourself ragged chasing them. I ended my undergrad career with a 3.89 GPA. Still made the Dean’s List every year and still graduated Summa Cum Laude and still got the nifty honors cords. By the time I did my master’s degree, none of that stuff was even tracked anymore (GPA sure, but there’s no fanfare for being a 4.0 over a 3.5). Once you get out of academia, it doesn’t really matter at all anymore.
Definitely push yourself to be your best, but don’t be too hard on yourself if you fall short, just regroup and hit it hard again. That’s what I’m trying to get at. Your GPA doesn’t dictate your intelligence.
I agree. I think we should all have saunas like the Scandinavians.
With VIII coming out this year, there’s likely to be a rerelease, which is also likely to have a 40th anniversary tag on it. Whether we will get anything new, we can only hope.
Yup.
They’ve definitely applied some DNR to match the film footage better with the digital footage.
Yup, for sure, which accounts for a lot of the “waxiness.”
I’d suggest a “Newbies Introduce Yourselves!” thread to avoid unneeded proliferation of content-free new threads by soon-to-be-gone-and-forgotten impulse-posters, but something tells me Steve would have started a new thread anyway, so…
I’ve had a similar thought myself. An Off-Topic “Introduce Yourself” sticky thread might be nice for new folks to meet everyone.
I will say that it looked better in 2D than 3D as well though.
I thought they looked fine, but a bit 70s (understandably).
Welcome, Steve.
3D is the best with VR goggles. I can’t stand glasses 3D because you have to stare directly at the screen and can’t fidget at all, but with VR you can move however you want.
My brother and I were talking about how VR is probably the future in terms of cinema as we were leaving Rogue One. You could basically just sit in a tiny cubicle and get the full theater sized experience (Getting that experience on the couch would be the death knell of theaters, I think), or even 360-degree video. Not to mention working 3D from any angle and all that.
Of course, that would ruin shot composition and you could just watch some extra in the background and ignore the point of the movie… either way it’ll be an interesting move forward.
I’d call 'em Alderaanians. I figure the other ones in the Rebel medal ceremony were just other Alderaanians.
Hey, just like I call people from Naboo “Naboobians.”
Correct.
I’d call 'em Alderaanians. I figure the other ones in the Rebel medal ceremony were just other Alderaanians.
Sure, there’s plenty of possible explanations, some more obvious than others. Point being, just because it’s not explained in the movie doesn’t make it a plot hole.
Yes, yes. To Dom you all listen.
ROTS 3D was shown at Celebration in 2015.
It was, I was there.
I skipped the screening though because… why? I don’t see the point, really.
I never saw any of those things in those movies.
Been some time since I last saw the film but it seemed to me that Luke put himself into a self-imposed exile.
If the others ever needed him, he trusted San Tekka and Artoo to know when and if to disclose his location. Separating the map ensured that it meant both of them agreed that he was really needed.
Yeap exactly this seems the most likely explanation, and is all but implied in the film. Will we get direct confirmation of this in the next films? If it’s important, sure. But it isn’t, necessarily.
Even though the question is left unanswered in the film, calling it a plot hole is kind of silly. A plot hole is an unanswered question that can’t be answered. This has plenty of possible explanations, from obvious to less so. Just because it isn’t spelled out doesn’t make it a “major plot hole.”
We need more scenes like the long sit-down exposition scenes in ROTJ and the PT.
I’m worried more about the colars.
