Today’s Republicans suck story.

https://www.rt.com/usa/376303-arkansas-abortion-law/

A pregnant woman’s husband will be able to sue to prevent his wife from having an abortion, even in cases of rape and incest, under a new law that could come into effect as early as spring.

The new law, Act 45 – the Unborn Child Protection From Dismemberment Abortion Act, will also allow husbands to sue doctors who carry out abortions for civil damages, as well as block terminations using injunctions.

Parents and legal guardians would also be able to sue to prevent minors from having abortions, raising concerns for victims of sexual abuse and incest.

The pro-life Act 45 was sped through in only two months by the Republican-led state government.

It would also see dilation and evacuation (D&E) terminations, the safest and most common form of second trimester abortions, become a felony with offenders facing six years in prison or a $10,000 fine.

Pathetic. And complete with a pathetic fear-mongering title.

  1. Trump signs Executive Orders that he does not fully review.
  2. He ends his day, home alone, without his wife or kids, at about 6:30pm
  3. He then changes into a bathrobe and mopes around.
  4. He is obsessed with the decor of the White House.
  5. He is literally looking at books of curtain designs and thinking about Interior Design, giving people tours and telling lies about what came from where.

A deeply disturbing article.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/05/us/politics/trump-white-house-aides-strategy.html?_r=1

I stole this list from a comment I saw on the same story.

Basically, Trump either:

  1. doesn’t read what he’s signing
  2. doesn’t understand what he’s signing
  3. thinks he can sign it and then claim someone pulled a fast one on him and pulled a switcheroo and made him sign something entirely different than what he thought he was signing
  4. he’s saying this so he can throw someone under the bus that he doesn’t like - i.e. blame Joe McShithead for this so he can fire him
  5. he was briefed, doesn’t remember being told that was a part of the document
  6. some sort of mental illness like dementia that just hasn’t been diagnosed yet
  7. Did know what he was doing when he signed it, but saw the SNL skit and realized people think/know Bannon is controlling him. Got mad at Bannon because of this and came up with this “master plan” to punish Bannon.
pick one or pick a bunch - it’s a salad bar of shitty things and America is holding a pair of tongs

This is the order: https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2017/01/28/presidential-memorandum-organization-national-security-council-and

wordcounter.net estimates you can read it in 6 minutes and 45 seconds.

I really hope that it’s just a marketing thing that they’re overblowing in the trailers, but it’s still annoying.

I just get the sneaking suspicion that some exec thought, “Wow, that Baby Groot scene at the end of the first one was a real sleeper hit! Everyone loved it!” then saw the dollar signs and said, “Now, what if he was a baby the WHOLE MOVIE?!”

The poster is literally this:

Awesome poster and then they decided to put a stupid black frame around it and then throw in an even more stupid Baby Groot photoshopped floating head.

So far, Baby Groot looks like the worst part of that movie purely because they keep pulling his scenes out to use for marketing because he’s so adorable and cute and hilarious! Look at him doing things that are funny because he’s so little!

It’s some Jar Jar Binks shit.

I remember streaming the teaser trailer on my parent’s computer, taping one of the trailer premieres off of some entertainment news show and rewatching it over and over again, reading a primitive trailer breakdown that figured that Qui-Gon was going to die which I should not have highlighted to read, standing in line in the mall parking garage to end up getting tickets to a showing the day after, my stepdad and I listening to a review on the radio that started with Anakin saying “everything’s overheated”, easily collecting the fast food toys because my dad worked at Pizza Hut and my stepmom at Taco Bell, and having the timecodes memorized on my dad’s training VHS that explained what the hype was about by showing both trailers (which I still have and would be fun to have digitized).

I don’t remember actually seeing the movie, except for being excited to see a new Star Wars movie for the first time in my life and dreading the end knowing that Qui-Gon was going to die. I remember seeing it 4 more times (including once by myself when my grandparents wanted to go to the movies and NOT see that and winning a Jar Jar doll from a crane game) in some kind of misguided attempt to have a Star Wars movie at the top of the All Time Box Office list to beat Titanic.

Are any of the commercials on that tape? There do not seem to be any decent quality versions on youtube. Those ads with Col. Sanders, the Taco Bell dog, and a Pizza Hut delivery gal were a lot of fun.

I don’t think so. I don’t remember any of it being entertaining besides the trailers, but I only watched the rest of it once 18 years ago.

If it’s hilarious and weird, consider contacting the Found Footage Festival!

I lack the technology to watch it!

DAMN YOU, PROGRESS!

Good on you for approaching it in a respectful way rather than mocking your parents’ faith like some people do. It can be very hard for parents when their kids leave the religion they grew up with, so respectfully asking questions for now will make things easier for everyone.

Exactly. Don’t burn any bridges unless you absolutely have to. So many people are so quick to leave their religion or come out or whatnot that they can cause irreparable damage to relationships that may one day become very important to them again. Respectful and tactful is always the way to go, in my mind.

Darthrush, from what I’ve gathered throughout the history of your posts regarding your religion, you are very clearly uncomfortable with it and don’t belong there. I don’t think you should keep participating. I don’t really have any advice because I understand the difficulty of your situation, especially given the Mormon church’s tendency to ostracize people who leave.

Thank you for the advice moviefreakedmind. I am currently in high school and my dad is the stake president so I am probably going to have to wait until college to leave the church. It’ll be a hell of a ride though when I break the news to them. After skimming the exmormon reddit threads I decided it is best to slowly give clear hints of my issues with the church all done in a respectful and cordial manner. Then it will not be as sudden. I started this strategy by casually saying that I disagree with the churches stance on gay rights. After my dad heard this, he was a little taken aback but since he couldn’t really argue that, nothing got heated. If I take these sort of things one at a time, it’ll make everything easier.

Good on you man, you do what you need to do for you and it sounds like your strategy is solid and respectful. I’m sorry that your questions about the faith aren’t being answered very well, but a lot of times people don’t like questions because they can’t answer them and it makes them question their own faith.

Good luck, you’ve got my support either way!

http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2017/02/02/john_mccain_gets_salty_with_trump_over_australia.html

On Thursday, John McCain, the Arizona senator and former Vietnam POW whom Trump famously belittled in 2015, coincidentally released a statement about his appreciation for a certain longtime U.S. ally:

“I called Australia’s Ambassador to the United States this morning to express my unwavering support for the U.S.-Australia alliance. I asked Ambassador Hockey to convey to the people of Australia that their American brothers and sisters value our historic alliance, honor the sacrifice of the Australians who have served and are serving by our side, and remain committed to the safer, freer, and better world that Australia does far more than its fair share to protect and promote.”

The statement doesn’t mention Trump by name, but it does include this line:

“Those of us who took part in the conflict remember well the service of more than 50,000 Australians in the Vietnam War, including more than 500 that gave their lives.”

You may recall that our commander in chief was able to avoid serving in Vietnam because he allegedly had bone spurs in his heels. He also later described the effort of avoiding sexually transmitted diseases as his own “personal Vietnam.”

John McCain may not be the America-uniting idealist that some people thought he was in 1999 and 2000, but he is too old to ever have to run for re-election again and he does think our president is a dumbass and that is, at the least, going to be entertaining.

Sometimes I love McCain.
